The weather was absolutely perfect, the mountains a lush green, and there they were: three majestic peaks rising proudly from the Namhangang River.
The scenery is simply breathtaking.
While it can get humid and warm by the river, these refreshing, verdant views are something you can only truly appreciate in summer.
Even with the summer heat, Dodam Sambong is a must-visit.
While the view of Dodam Sambong from Seokmun is stunning, climbing up in this heat can be quite challenging. If you’re traveling with children or older parents, I highly recommend a refreshing cruise. You’ll get up close to the peaks and enjoy a leisurely tour around the river.
Cruises operate from 10:00 AM, with a total of 8 departures daily. You can purchase tickets on-site or book online in advance.
Booking online offers a discount of ~$1 for adults. However, please note that if you change your time on the day of the cruise, you will need to pay the difference to the regular fare.

The cabins are located on the first and second decks, and they are wonderfully cool, offering a comfortable environment to enjoy the scenic Dodam Sambong and Namhangang River views.
Danyang is renowned for its unique geological environment, with Dodam Sambong and the surrounding river areas designated as a Geopark.
These incredible landscapes can only truly be appreciated from across the river or by taking a cruise. The advantage of the cruise is getting up close and personal with these geological wonders while enjoying a refreshing tour of the river.
Even though the cabins are cool, the views from the windows can be somewhat limited. So, naturally, everyone tends to head out onto the deck to soak it all in! Ha ha.
While the coast is often the main destination in summer, the winding river landscapes are truly stunning. I used to prefer the wide-open sea, but as I’ve gotten older, I've fallen in love with the charm of South Korea's inland journeys.
The cruise lasts approximately 50 minutes, which feels like the perfect amount of time.
You get to take photos, enjoy the scenery, and just as you might start to feel a little restless, it's time to disembark.
