a highly recommended Shanghai spot. I'll cover its location,
menu, and my completely honest review!

Dian Dou De Shanghai: The Basics
❣️ Location
Dian Dou De actually has several locations across Shanghai.
But the two most popular spots for travelers are
the Uni Elite branch (环宇荟店) near Xintiandi
and the Super Brand Mall branch (正大店) in Pudong.
If you look at the map above, No. 2 is the Pudong Super Brand Mall branch, and No. 15 is the Xintiandi Uni Elite branch. Since both are the closest to central Shanghai, you can't go wrong choosing either one.

Having visited Shanghai three times already this year alone,
I simply couldn't skip a visit to Dian Dou De during this trip.
I already knew exactly how amazing it would taste, but it's so good that I just had to go back.
This time, I decided to head to the Pudong Super Brand Mall branch.
Menu & Prices
Let's take a look at Dian Dou De's menu.
First up is the mandatory (?) tea menu!
No matter which Dian Dou De branch you visit, ordering tea is required,
but the tea options seem to vary slightly by location.
Since I love oolong tea, I went with my usual favorite.
Just a heads-up, you must order one tea per person...!
Now, for the main dishes!
While most restaurants in China these days only use QR codes to view the menu on your phone,
it was refreshing to flip through a physical menu here.
What made it even better was that the menu included English and Korean translations!
Make sure to order the items I’ve starred!

My Honest Review of Dian Dou De Shanghai
Our tea was served first.
I don’t usually drink a lot of tea back home,
but in China, since restaurants always serve it and the dishes tend to be quite rich,
I find myself sipping on tea constantly.
Diandoude is a dim sum-focused restaurant,
and steaming the dim sum takes a bit of time.
Instead of serving all the dishes at once,
they bring them out as soon as they're ready.
❣️Spicy Cucumber Salad
So, the very first thing to arrive is the cucumber!
It looks like a regular cucumber, but it's tossed
in chili oil, making it quite spicy and refreshing.
It's incredibly appetizing and suits almost everyone's taste buds.
There's a bit of a wait between dishes.
Especially if you visit during peak dining hours, it can take even longer.
The restaurant itself is massive, so you probably won't wait long for a table,
but if you're visiting on a weekend, I highly recommend avoiding
peak hours.
❣️Red Rice Cheung Fun
The absolute reason to visit Diandoude = Red Rice Cheung Fun
H Rice / Cheung Fun = Rice Noodle Roll
That's what it means!
The dish looks exactly like its name—isn't it gorgeous?
It comes with two dipping sauces: one is tangy,
and the other is a savory peanut sauce.
This Red Rice Cheung Fun will completely exceed your expectations.
Even though we visited this time with our stomachs already half-full,
my friend's reaction was, "What would we have done if we didn't come here?!"
I felt so proud...!
❣️Har Gow
Classic shrimp dumplings.
Bursting with whole, plump shrimp, these are an absolute must-try.
❣️Truffle Shumai
Shumai (shrimp and pork dumplings) topped with truffle.
The truffle aroma isn't too strong, but it's delicious enough to get a pass...!
❣️Cantonese Wonton Soup (or Wonton Noodle Soup)
Let me recommend a dish that locals absolutely love.
It's dipping Youtiao (fried dough sticks) into wonton soup! It's a super popular breakfast staple in China.
On the menu, you'll see both 'Cantonese Wonton' and 'Wonton Noodle Soup.'
The picture above shows the noodle version,
but you don't really need the noodles. Since you mainly want the broth to dip your dough sticks, I highly recommend ordering the noodle-free version (Cantonese Wonton). 😋😋

❣️Beef Tripe
Highly recommended for offal lovers!
The tripe is served thick and perfectly seasoned.
It was so incredibly delicious that we ordered it twice! haha
(Though we messed up the order, and they gave it to us to-go.)

here are my exclusive insider tips for Dian Dou De!
1) Xintiandi Huanyuhui vs. Pudong Super Brand Mall
Which branch should you choose?
❣️The Location
Let’s start with a quick location comparison.
First, the Xintiandi Huanyuhui branch is often called the "Xintiandi branch" because it’s nearby,
but it’s actually about 1 km away.
That's roughly a 15 to 20-minute walk.
It's a bit too far to just "pop in" while exploring Xintiandi.
So, if you decide to visit the Huanyuhui branch,
I highly recommend filling up your belly at Dian Dou De first,
and then walking over to Xintiandi (perfect for digesting!),
or simply grabbing a quick Didi (ride-share) after your meal
to save your energy for exploring.
(Because on city trips, saving your leg power is key!)
Next up, the Pudong Super Brand Mall branch is located inside
the Super Brand Mall, right in front of the Oriental Pearl Tower.
Pudong isn’t necessarily a neighborhood you need to wander through on foot
for standard sightseeing.
(I definitely recommend Xintiandi for its gorgeous streets instead!)
But if you do cross over to Pudong,
visiting the Museum of Art Pudong (MAP) is absolutely worth it.
Plus, you can check off several spots inside the Super Brand Mall in one go,
like grabbing the famous Holiland "towel cakes" and doing some shopping!
It's super convenient to bundle them all together.
On my last day before heading to the airport,
my morning itinerary was:
Museum of Art Pudong ➔ Dian Dou De ➔ Holiland Cake Pick-up
and then straight to my flight! Haha!
❣️The Taste
Of course, we have to talk about the food, right?
Taste-wise, the Xintiandi Huanyuhui branch took the crown for us.
(A unanimous vote by all three of us who visited both!)
But that doesn't mean the Pudong Super Brand Mall branch wasn't good—
it was still delicious!
So, just choose whichever fits best into your daily route and schedule.
❣️The Vibe
The Xintiandi Huanyuhui branch has a classic, traditional Chinese restaurant vibe.
The Pudong Super Brand Mall branch is sleek, modern, and contemporary.
2) How to Book a Table at Dian Dou De
You can easily make reservations using
Dianping (大众点评).
On Dianping (which is like China's ultimate restaurant app),
simply search for "Shanghai Dian Dou De (上海 点都德),"
select your preferred branch, and tap "QUEUE" (排队) to join the line virtually.
It makes waiting so much easier!

Yes, ordering one tea per person is mandatory at any Dian Dou De branch. You need to choose from the tea menu available at each branch, such as Oolong tea, and enjoy it with your meal.
The Unipark branch is about 1 km away from Xintiandi, taking about 15 to 20 minutes on foot. If you find walking burdensome, we recommend taking a DiDi for a comfortable ride.
The Red Rice Noodle Roll is a long dim sum made of red rice. It comes with a sweet and sour sauce and a peanut sauce, which you can enjoy according to your taste.
The Pudong Super Brand Mall branch is located inside the Super Brand Mall, right in front of the Oriental Pearl Tower. Before or after your meal, we recommend visiting the nearby Museum of Art Pudong or buying a towel roll cake at Holiland inside the mall.
Search for '上海 点都德' on the Dazhong Dianping app and select the branch you want to visit. Then, press the QUEUE button on the screen to join the waitlist and easily make a reservation.
