Hello everyone!
I'm Minimanimu, bringing you handpicked travel tips and stories from Japan!
One brand that absolutely always makes it onto every Japan travel shopping list:
Comme des Garçons, of course.
I've been happily wearing a cardigan I bought in Japan ten years ago,
but I decided it was finally time for an upgrade, so I visited the Fukuoka store to pick up a new piece.
It's much more affordable here than back home, and with tax-free shopping,
it's a must-buy item for so many travelers.
While many people immediately think of waiting in line for the "open run" at the Iwataya Department Store,
I decided to head to the standalone Hakata store, where you can enjoy a much more relaxed shopping experience
without any of the crazy lines.
Today, I’m sharing a detailed guide covering the Fukuoka Comme des Garçons Hakata store location, prices,
tax-free shopping tips, and my honest review!

It's super accessible, just a 4-minute walk from Gion Station and a 7-minute walk from Hakata Station.
It's in a perfect location to drop by after grabbing a bite to eat nearby.
Exterior
After a short walk from Hakata Station,
you'll find the standalone Comme des Garçons store tucked away in a quiet alley.
This standalone store is amazing because you can find both the Play line and the CDG line
all in one place.
The absolute best part? Unlike the hectic department store branches, you don't have to deal with the stressful "open run" morning rush—you can just walk right in and shop at your own pace.

Interior
Step inside,
and you'll be greeted by an incredible selection of items right from the entrance.

1st Floor (Front)
A wide range of items, including clothing, bags, wallets, and shoes

1st Floor (Back): Dedicated booth for the Play line
2nd Floor: CDG line

The sleek, clean white-toned interior
makes the products stand out beautifully. Plus, there are fitting rooms,
so you can try things on without feeling rushed.

My Honest Review
I visited at 12:45 PM on a weekday,
and the store was blissfully quiet with almost no other shoppers.
This made the experience so relaxing, allowing me to take my time browsing
and easily ask the staff any questions I had.

I’d read a few online reviews saying the staff could be a bit cold,
but that wasn't my experience at all!
They were incredibly helpful, guiding me through the size charts and heart patch color options.
They let me try pieces on in the fitting room
and were even kind enough to let me snap some photos of the store interior.

What I was on the hunt for was the iconic Play Comme des Garçons cardigan,
and I found it tucked away in the dedicated Play booth on the 1st floor.
They had almost all the basic colors in stock, from T-shirts and button-downs
to windbreakers, cardigans, and even the Converse collab sneakers!

Just a heads-up: for the most popular sizes,
the heart emblem (wappen) colors or stock might be a bit limited.
If you have a specific combination in mind, I highly recommend
checking with the staff first!

The Price Tag (Tax-Free!)
Item | Retail Price | Tax-Free Price |
Cardigan | ¥31,350 | ¥28,500 |
Shirt | ¥27,500 | ¥25,000 |

✔️ Tax-Free Shopping Tip
If you bring your passport along when purchasing,
you can get the tax refund processed right at the counter.
It's so much cheaper than buying it back home,
so if you're planning to shop for Comme des Garçons during your trip, this is a total must-visit!

The Verdict
If you want to skip the stressful department store "open run" at Iwataya,
this standalone Hakata store is your best bet.
✔️ Easy walking distance from Gion Station and Hakata Station
✔️ Relaxed shopping experience without having to line up before opening
✔️ Standalone store featuring the full Play CDG lineup
✔️ Credit cards accepted & immediate tax-free processing
If you want to score some Comme des Garçons
at amazing prices in Fukuoka,
I highly recommend the Hakata Comme des Garçons Standalone Store!
