Comme des Garçons Fukuoka Store
A Guide to Cardigan & Coach Jacket Prices, Sizing, and Tax-Free Shopping
Written by Global Explorer
Hello fashion lovers!
If you are planning a trip to Fukuoka, shopping for Comme des Garçons is likely at the top of your itinerary.
On my previous trip, I focused entirely on the ultra-popular PLAY line, picking up one of their iconic cardigans. This time around, I decided to explore the edgier CDG line and walked away with a classic coach jacket.
Today, I am breaking down everything you need to know about the Comme des Garçons Hakata standalone store, including location details, current 2026 pricing for cardigans and coach jackets, and how to get your instant tax refund!

Exterior & Architecture
This was my second visit to the Fukuoka Comme des Garçons Hakata store.
Housed in a striking, modern concrete building, the standalone store is impossible to miss.
The bold "CDG" logo on the glass facade makes it highly visible from the street.

Interior Layout: 1F PLAY vs. 2F CDG
The store is split across two beautifully minimalist floors.
✔️ 1F: The PLAY Line
The ground floor features the world-famous PLAY line, instantly recognizable by its signature heart logo.
Even though I arrived shortly after opening, several eager shoppers were already browsing the racks.

✔️ Entry Process: Because the display area is quite intimate, staff manage traffic by having customers wait in a short line to ensure a comfortable shopping experience.
✔️ Selection: Cardigans, button-down shirts, striped tees, graphic tees, and Converse collaboration sneakers.

✔️ 2F: The CDG Line
Head up the stairs to immerse yourself in the edgy, street-chic vibes of the CDG line.

The staircase adorned with the CDG logo leads to a spacious, gallery-like loft.
At first glance, it looks minimalist and empty, but as you walk further in, you'll find the curated collections neatly displayed.

From outerwear, vests, and shirts to graphic tees and statement bags, the second floor houses a fantastic variety of pieces.

The staff upstairs are incredibly helpful and will gladly assist you in finding your size.

My main target today was the classic CDG Coach Jacket.
They had plenty of styles in stock, but smaller sizes sell out fast. Most of what remained on the racks were L and XL.

There are full-length mirrors available to check your fit. I made sure to ask the staff for permission before snapping a quick photo!

Once you make your selection, the staff will package your items and process your payment. Just remember to bring your physical passport to get the tax-free price applied directly at the register.

Shopping Review & Sizing Tips
Here is my haul from this trip: the CDG Coach Jacket and another classic Comme des Garçons PLAY Cardigan.
They packaged everything beautifully in their signature shopping bags, making it easy to carry around for the rest of my day.
Both of these pieces are incredibly versatile staples that elevate any casual outfit!

Actual Purchase Price (Tax-Free Applied)
Item | Retail Price (incl. tax) | Tax-Free Price |
PLAY Cardigan | 32,450 JPY (~$208) | 29,500 JPY (~$189) |
CDG Coach Jacket | 16,500 JPY (~$106) | 15,000 JPY (~$96) |
✔️ Tax-Free Shopping Tip
Unlike department stores (such as Iwataya), there is no need to stand in a second line at a separate tax-refund counter, nor do they deduct a processing fee.
Simply show your passport at checkout, and they will charge you the tax-free price immediately. It is incredibly convenient and saves you both time and money!
Compared to retail prices in the US, buying Comme des Garçons directly in Japan is an absolute steal.
Final Verdict
While the Iwataya Department Store location is famous, it is notorious for massive morning queues and chaotic crowds. In contrast, the Comme des Garçons Hakata standalone store offers a much more relaxed and enjoyable shopping environment.
✔️ Conveniently located within walking distance of Gion and Hakata Stations
✔️ Quieter, spacious store layout with a comfortable fitting experience
✔️ Browse both PLAY and CDG lines under one roof
✔️ Direct, hassle-free tax-free checkout with no extra fees deducted
If you are hunting for Comme des Garçons pieces in Fukuoka, I highly recommend skipping the department stores and heading straight to the Hakata standalone boutique!

It is a 4-minute walk from Gion Station and an 8-minute walk from Hakata Station. If you use Kushida-jinja-mae Station, it takes 10 minutes on foot.
If you present your passport when paying at the store, the tax-free price will be applied immediately. Unlike department stores, you do not need to visit a separate tax refund counter.
The 1st floor is the PLAY line store, which sells items like cardigans and shirts; customers enter sequentially after waiting in line. The 2nd floor displays streetwear-inspired CDG line products, including coach jackets and bags.
By presenting your passport for a tax exemption, you can purchase the PLAY cardigan for 29,500 yen and the CDG coach jacket for 15,000 yen. The regular prices for these two products are 32,450 yen and 16,500 yen, respectively.
