✅ Hostel for around ~$37 per night (Note: mixed-gender dorms)
✅ Breakfast and game facilities available (for a fee)
✅ Just a 10-minute walk from Dublin's city center
✅ Generally safe due to the presence of many fellow travelers
1. Location of Clink i Lár Hostel in Dublin
If you've ever tried to find accommodation in Dublin, you'll know one thing for sure: it's incredibly expensive. We're not talking about prices being high because they're 4-star or 5-star hotels; they're just expensive, full stop.
For safety reasons, I often prefer to stay in hotels, but in Dublin, staying in a hotel simply wasn't an option for my budget. That's how I discovered this hostel. My mindset was, if I can't stay in a hotel, I'll find the best value-for-money accommodation available.
This particular hostel offers 4-person dorms for around ~$37 per night. Keep in mind that this lower price is for mixed-gender dorms; private rooms for two or female-only dorms will naturally be a bit more expensive.

🏨 Book Clink i Lár Dublin Hostel
It's about a 10-minute walk from the main street. The paths are often cobblestone, so it's not the easiest stroll, but considering the price, it's a trade-off I was willing to make.
2. Checking In at Clink i Lár
Check-in at Clink i Lár is completely automated. Even without staff present, my booking information was in the system. I simply entered my passport details and other required information, and my room key was dispensed immediately.

The check-in area also featured a pool table, though using it came with an extra charge. If you're traveling solo, it might not be much fun, but if you happen to make some new friends, it's a great way to socialize.

After inputting all the necessary details, the key card activated and popped out, much like a drink from a vending machine.

The key card clearly displayed my room number and bed assignment.

This was my first time staying in a hostel, and I admit, the idea of a mixed-gender dorm made me a little nervous, but I decided to give it a try.
3. My Experience in a 4-Person Dorm at Clink i Lár
A quick tap of the key card opened the door to my room. I opted for a room with an en-suite bathroom. Although it was a mixed-gender dorm, I chose the option with a private shower and toilet. Rooms with shared communal bathrooms were even more affordable.

The beds themselves were perfectly adequate; I didn't find them uncomfortable. Upon entering, I noticed that all the beds were already curtained, so I couldn't immediately see who else was staying in the room. I placed my luggage next to my bed and only took a few essential items into my curtained space. It seemed most people preferred to do everything within the privacy of their own bed.

Inside each bed area, there's a power outlet and a reading light, making it convenient to draw the curtain and have your own private space. Both myself and my dorm mates all had large suitcases. With CCTV coverage in the common areas, I felt comfortable leaving my large suitcase outside my bed and only taking valuables with me when I went out for tours or exploring the city.
4. Dining at Clink i Lár
The hostel also has its own restaurant. It's a paid service, and the prices weren't particularly budget-friendly, so I didn't end up dining there. However, the dining area itself was available for guests to use in the evenings, which meant I could bring in my own simple food and eat it there.

If there's a big soccer match or another major sporting event happening, utilizing this common space could be a great way to soak in the atmosphere with other travelers.

Admittedly, the space can feel a bit cramped and not the most comfortable. But if you're looking for a place in Dublin strictly for sleeping, this might be your best bet. Finding accommodation in Dublin for around ~$37 a night is practically unheard of. If your priority is simply a safe place to rest your head, don't bother looking for other hotels; just book here.
For me, the price makes any minor inconveniences completely worth it. While you won't find luxurious comfort, it provides a secure and affordable base, and for that, I highly recommend it.
