An Honest Review of the Pros & Cons Before You Book
When you start looking for places to stay in Taipei, one of the first things you might notice is that hotel prices can feel surprisingly high for the quality you get.
This is especially true around Ximending and Taipei Main Station. Because these are the most popular areas for travelers, accommodation rates tend to spike. That is why citizenM Taipei North Gate stands out as an incredibly practical choice for anyone trying to balance location, room quality, and budget.
Today, Iβm breaking down everything you need to know before booking: the prime location, the pros, the cons, and a quick price comparison.
1. A Location That Can't Be Beaten

No. 3, Section 1, Zhonghua Rd, Guangfu Village, Zhongzheng District, Taipei City, Taiwan 100

Without a doubt, the single greatest asset of citizenM Taipei North Gate is its location.
It is a quick 5-minute walk from Beimen MRT Station, about a 12-minute walk from Taipei Main Station, and just a 10-minute stroll from the heart of the Ximending shopping district.
This makes your daily itinerary incredibly smooth for several reasons:
Getting to the hotel from Taoyuan Airport via the Airport MRT is seamless.
During the day, hopping on the subway to visit Yongkang Street, Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall, or Taipei 101 is effortless.
At night, you can grab dinner and shop in Ximending, then easily walk back to your room without worrying about catching a late train.
In a destination like Taiwan, where the humidity and heat can be intense, minimizing your walk to the nearest station is a lifesaver. For first-time visitors to Taipei, this location is practically flawless.
2. Sleek, Modern Room Quality

As a global boutique brand, citizenM offers a reliable standard. While it might not feature highly customized local decor, it perfectly hits that clean, contemporary, and efficient sweet spot you expect from a well-regarded international hotel chain.
It is compact, spotless, and designed with high-tech, functional features.
However, there is one obvious drawback:
The rooms are definitely on the smaller side.
If you need to unpack multiple large suitcases at once, the space can feel a bit cramped. The bathroom is also quite compact, though for a quick shower at the end of a long day, it gets the job done perfectly.
Most rooms share the exact same layout and size; the main differences are whether you get a high floor or a specific view. I stayed in a lower-floor room looking out at the city streets.

Pardon the travel clutter!
Looking from the bed, you will find an external vanity and sink with a mini-fridge on the right, while the frosted glass enclosure on the left houses the toilet and shower. The king-size bed is positioned right against the window, offering a spacious and comfortable sleep.
While the small footprint is a con, Taipei is a city meant for exploring rather than staying cooped up inside. If you are out sightseeing all day and only using your room to shower and sleep, it is incredibly cozy. However, if you are looking for a spacious resort-style staycation, this might not be the match for you.

3. Social Spaces and Price Comparison

The communal living spaces at citizenM North Gate are absolutely fantastic.
To make up for the compact room sizes, the hotel features a sprawling, beautifully designed lounge area where guests can relax, work, or hang out.
This is where breakfast is served, and there is a 24/7 bar offering craft beers, cocktails, and coffee.
It is open to all guests. I actually grabbed some of the famous giant salmon sushi and karaage chicken from Three Virtues (Sanε³) Restaurant nearby and enjoyed them right here in the comfortable lounge.

At the time of writing, a one-night stay booked a month in advance hovers around the $92 range. Here is how the major booking platforms compare:
Platform | Price per Night |
~$92 | |
~$92 | |
~$92 |
Agoda edged out as the cheapest by a tiny margin, but the rates are incredibly close across the board. I recommend booking through whichever platform you use most frequently to rack up loyalty points.
