Welcome back to our Da Lat travel series!
Because Da Lat's city center is relatively compact, it often feels like everyone ends up at the same tourist-heavy restaurants. Finding a truly authentic, local spot can be a challenge—even the "hidden gems" you read about online are often packed with fellow travelers.
While you can always head out of town to Lang Biang Mountain to the north, the cable car to the south, or Clay Tunnel to the west, most of your evening dining will bring you right back to the city center. And that brings us to today's highlight.
When people think of Vietnamese tabletop BBQ in Da Lat, they usually flock to the famous spots in the Night Market (like My Le, which was featured on popular TV shows). However, for a much better atmosphere, superior flavor, and a genuinely local vibe, Chu BBQ is my personal favorite.

Located slightly off the beaten path (though still very accessible), Chu BBQ is in the Golf Valley area. If you use the popular Hotel Colline as a landmark, walking toward the Night Market is the typical tourist route. Chu BBQ lies in the opposite direction—a quieter, highly local neighborhood that I highly recommend exploring.
Here is what we will cover in this guide:
- The Local Atmosphere
- Menu, Ordering, and Pricing
- Location and Practical Information
The Local Atmosphere

This is a true neighborhood joint. During my visit, almost every table was filled with locals enjoying their evening. The restaurant is decorated with classic Vietnamese street-side elements. Keep in mind that there is no modern ventilation system here, so expect a lively, smoky, and incredibly authentic atmosphere!

Authentic Tabletop BBQ

Ordering is simple: you just mark your choices on the order sheet and hand it to the staff.

Don't worry if you don't speak Vietnamese—they have an English menu available to make things easy.

When you sit down, they will bring out a small starter snack. Note that this isn't free, but it only costs about ~$0.30. It's crispy, savory, and definitely worth munching on while you wait for your grill to heat up.

The marinated meats, fresh shrimp, and side vegetables arrive quickly alongside a traditional clay pot filled with glowing hot coals. Give it a minute to heat up, and then start grilling!

Yes, it gets a bit smoky, but grilling your own dinner right at the table is half the fun of the experience.
We also ordered a second round of meat. Since we didn't order rice, the savory, marinated meat tasted a bit salty on its own, so we added a Banh Mi bread to the order. For this round, they even switched out the grill plate for a different style!

The prices here are incredibly budget-friendly. The appetizer snack was about ~$0.30, and the Banh Mi was only about ~$0.20. The total bill for our entire meal came out to 276,000 VND, which is roughly ~$9! Talk about amazing local value.
