Arriving at Chinggis Khaan International Airport in Mongolia? Here is a practical guide on immigration, customs, and how to withdraw fee-free cash using Travel Wallet.

Mongolia is a destination that feels incredibly exotic and untouched, yet it is surprisingly accessible for travelers seeking adventure.
From bustling modern cities to endless green steppes, dramatic deserts, and pristine lakes, it's a romantic country that has a bit of everything.
The local people are remarkably welcoming to international tourists. Many guides and locals in the travel industry speak excellent English, making navigating the country smooth and hassle-free.
If you are looking for reliable mobile data during your trip, using an eSIM is highly recommended. I used a local unlimited data eSIM plan, and it worked flawlessly throughout my 4-day trip without breaking the bank.

The flight time from major hubs in East Asia (like Seoul Incheon) to Chinggis Khaan International Airport in Ulaanbaatar is roughly 3 hours and 40 minutes.
If you're looking for a budget-friendly option, MIAT Mongolian Airlines offers great rates and comfortable flights.

The seat pitch on MIAT is surprisingly generous. Even at 5'11" (180 cm), my knees didn't touch the seat in front of me. I'll make sure to write a detailed review of MIAT Airlines soon!
Chinggis Khaan International Airport Immigration

Chinggis Khaan International Airport is on the smaller side, which means getting through immigration is incredibly fast. It took me less than 10 minutes to reach the arrivals hall.
While some travelers online mentioned being asked several questions, the officer didn't ask me anything. I just looked at the camera, got my passport stamped, and was good to go.

The entry stamp clearly shows the arrival date and "Mongolia" in bold letters.
* Customs was a breeze since I had nothing to declare.
* I brought a small travel drone with me, but it didn't require any special declaration, so I walked straight through.
Baggage Claim at Chinggis Khaan Airport

Right after passing immigration, you'll see the baggage claim carousel. Since there weren't many flights landing at the same time, our bags came out almost immediately, and we headed out to the main lobby.
Where to Find ATMs & Exchange Money at the Airport
Fee-Free Cash Withdrawals with Travel Cards

Once you exit into the arrivals hall, look to your left. You'll see a Tom N Toms Coffee shop, and right next to it is a row of ATMs.
Because the airport is small, you'll easily spot where travelers gather to withdraw local currency (Mongolian Tögrög - MNT) using international travel cards like Travel Wallet.

There are three ATMs in total at Chinggis Khaan Airport. Most travelers use the TDB (Trade and Development Bank) ATM, while the second and third machines are usually empty.
A quick warning: I tried using the third ATM first. No cash came out, but when I checked my Travel Wallet app, around ~$13 had been deducted! I had to move to the TDB ATM to get my actual cash, so I lost a bit of money there. Stick to the main ATMs!
For Travel Wallet users, you can withdraw fee-free cash at TDB, Golomt Bank, and Khan Bank (XAAH Bank) ATMs.
How to Withdraw Cash from Mongolian ATMs with Travel Wallet
1. Insert your Travel Wallet or international travel card into the ATM.
2. Enter your PIN. If it asks for 6 digits, enter your 4-digit PIN followed by "00" and press OK.
3. Select "Cash Withdrawal".
4. Choose your withdrawal amount. If your desired amount isn't listed, select "Other Amounts" and type it in manually.

Success! I successfully withdrew Mongolian Tögrög (MNT) using my Travel Wallet card with absolutely zero transaction fees.

After sorting out my cash, I met up with our tour guide in the lobby and headed out to our vehicle.
Stepping outside the airport, the air was crisp and much cooler than expected. The immediate view outside the terminal is a stunning, wide-open green grassland, which instantly made me realize I was finally in Mongolia!

During my 4-day trip, I rarely needed hard cash except for small local experiences. Most supermarkets, restaurants, and souvenir shops in Ulaanbaatar accept credit cards, so charging my Travel Wallet card and tapping to pay was extremely convenient.
