China Eastern MU5052 Review 2026: Affordable Incheon to Shanghai Flights
Looking for affordable flights to Shanghai or a budget-friendly European layover? Our China Eastern MU5052 review covers everything from check-in to meals. Discover how to save!

Hello everyone!
Today, I'm excited to share my recent experience flying from Incheon to Shanghai with
China Eastern Airlines:)
If you've been planning a trip and grappling with airfare prices,
China Eastern Airlines might be a great option to consider.

Honestly, when I first thought of China Eastern Airlines,
I vaguely worried the service might be lacking. But after actually flying with them, it was surprisingly decent!
Having had a comfortable experience with a Chinese airline two years ago, with both service and in-flight meals being great,
I approached this trip with an open mind again.
Especially since flights often take up a huge chunk of travel expenses,
I felt this was a pretty solid option for those looking to save on costs
and still want to experience Europe or Shanghai.
For this post, I'll be focusing on my flight MU5052 from Incheon to Shanghai,
covering everything from in-flight meals and online check-in to seat selection.
1. Incheon-Shanghai Service Summary

The flight from Incheon International Airport to Shanghai Pudong International Airport
is less than 2 hours,
and Shanghai is 1 hour behind Korea.

Oh, and here's another surprising thing!

There's Wi-Fi on board...?
China... might be an even better destination than I thought?
2. In-flight Meal

On my recent MU5052 flight from Incheon to Shanghai,
I also received an in-flight meal.
The meal included beef fried rice, brownie cake,
yogurt, fruit, and a dinner roll!
While the taste wasn't exactly 'mind-blowing',
I found it quite satisfying, actually! Haha.
Considering the airfare price,
it was definitely a fair offering.
I ate everything!
Honestly, I wasn't expecting an in-flight meal for the Incheon to Shanghai route,
as it's not a long-haul flight.
So, it was a pleasant surprise to get even a simple meal.
In comparison, I once flew a Southeast Asian route for about 6 hours
and no meal was provided.
China Eastern Airlines was definitely more satisfying in that regard.
As flight times get longer, whether or not an in-flight meal is provided
actually becomes quite important, surprisingly.
Especially for trips with long travel times, like a European adventure,
it's crucial to compare not just the airfare, but also factors like in-flight meals, baggage allowance,
layover times, and overall conditions.
3. Online Check-in, Seat Selection, and Cabin Interior

Pre-checking in for China Eastern Airlines is a breeze!
Simply enter your ticket number, name, flight date, passport number, and flight details, and you'll be able to select your seat.
Especially if you're traveling with your partner or friends,
it's best to confirm your seats in advance to avoid any discomfort from being separated.
Keep in mind that check-in is available from
48 hours to 1 hour before departure!
However, please note that online check-in and seat selection times, as well as seat-specific conditions, can vary depending on your flight and booking conditions.
I recommend checking the official announcements after booking.

Here's a photo so you can check out the legroom with the seat in front.
I had my seat reclined slightly,
so it might look a bit closer than it actually was.
It wasn't so cramped that I felt like I was suffocating, though!
The flight attendants were all super friendly too! Haha.
4. Traveloka's Exclusive Deals

The most decisive reason I chose Traveloka
among various ticket providers was, of course,
the affordable price.
What I've realized after several trips is that
even a difference of a few tens of thousands of won (KRW) in airfare can feel quite significant
in your overall travel budget.
Especially for European trips, airfare itself tends to be expensive,
so if you can cut down on flight costs, you naturally have more budget
for accommodation, food, and sightseeing, right?
This time too, by saving on airfare, I was able to secure a bit more budget to spend at my destination, and I was surprisingly satisfied that even on the short Incheon-Shanghai leg, an in-flight meal was provided.
And this time, I even used a discount to book at an even lower price!

Currently, the benefit you can get from Traveloka is a 50% discount,
up to ~$36.
Since it's offered on a first-come, first-served basis every Monday,
if you're planning to book a flight,
it might be a good idea to check around the time the discount coupons become available.
They also say that additional discount coupons are provided upon signing up,
so if you're a new user, I recommend checking that out too!
