Highly recommended for:
✔︎ Anyone wanting to try high-end, luxurious crab noodles
✔︎ Fans who want to visit the spot featured on the YouTube channel "Hal Myung Soo"
✔︎ Foodies with big appetites (unlimited refills!)
✔︎ Anyone curious to see a shockingly fancy (and slightly overwhelming) restroom
✔︎ Those who successfully set up the Dianping app
If you're planning a trip to Shanghai,
you're probably searching like crazy for what to eat, right?
From Hejiuqian lamb skewers and Diandude's red rice stone rolls,
to Lillian Bakery's iconic egg tarts, the list is endless!
Crab noodles are always high on that bucket list, too.
There are plenty of budget-friendly crab noodle shops,
but after seeing the ultra-luxurious Cejerdary on "Hal Myung Soo,"
I was torn. Where should I go?
After much deliberation, I decided to go big or go home!
I chose Cejerdary—famous for being on the pricier side, but absolutely packed with a generous amount of premium hairy crab.

True to its high-end reputation,
and very on-brand for China,
the interior was absolutely glittering and gold.

Even the baby high chair cushions looked incredibly plush—
doesn't the design look like a mini royal throne?
Vibe & Atmosphere

The dining area screams luxury +
The staff wore elegant, traditional-style uniforms.
Out of everywhere I visited in Shanghai,
this place definitely felt the most upscale, and the service made me feel like royalty.
The Menu

When it comes to Cejerdary, the crab noodles are an absolute must.
But you might wonder, "What else should I order?"
From my research, many people also order the truffle crab fried rice,
and their steamed hairy crab in wine is also super famous.
So, just go with whatever matches your cravings!

There are also helpful instructions on how to enjoy your meal.
For instance, they highlight the premium oil they use for cooking,
and both the noodles and rice come with unlimited free refills!
Plus, drinks are self-serve and completely free at the counter.
These guides are written in English and Korean, as well as Chinese,
and the staff actually use translation devices to explain everything,
so there was absolutely zero language barrier!
So, with ease, we ordered
the crab noodles and the crab rice bowl (crab roe over rice).

The table was set beautifully like this,
and being a true hairy crab specialty restaurant, even the chopstick rests were shaped like little crabs.

They also had extra sauces on hand in case you wanted to adjust the seasoning ❤️
As someone who takes food very seriously, my heart was absolutely racing with excitement at this point.

Next, they served a side dish of bell pepper and lotus root.
To be honest, it didn't look like my cup of tea, so I wasn't planning on eating it.
But since I have to write an honest blog review, I decided to take just one bite.
Surprisingly, it was super crunchy and had a nice, subtle spicy kick!
It turned out to be an absolute lifesaver.
Since rich crab noodles can get a bit heavy the more you eat,
this side dish was the perfect palate cleanser to cut through the richness.

The crab noodles at Xiejia Dayuan seem to be a bit hit-or-miss.
I saw some reviews from those who didn't like the noodles saying that the peanuts served here were actually the best part. When I tried them, they were indeed super rich and delicious, but I wondered, "Is it really *that* good to be called the best?"
Well... after finishing the entire meal, I completely got it! ‼️

Next up was ginger tea served in a beautiful little cup.
As someone with a childish palate, it wasn't really my cup of tea,
but if you're a fan of ginger tea,
you'll probably love how rich and bold the flavor is.

After waiting for a little bit,
our crab noodles and crab bibimbap arrived.
Just these two dishes alone
came out to over ~$90 when converted based on the June 30, 2026 exchange rate, haha.
You can see why we hesitated, right?
Crab Noodles
360 RMB, about ~$53

This is the crab noodles, priced at about ~$53.
Honestly, they said it's packed with Chinese mitten crab,
and since my motto is never to skimp on food I want to try,
I had really high expectations when I took my first bite.
That first bite was incredibly rich and savory, which was great,
but the more I ate, the more heavy and greasy it felt.
I instantly understood why people said the bibimbap was better.
Since this was my very first time trying crab noodles, it's hard to say if I just dislike crab noodles in general...
so it's a bit hard to judge...
But if you ask me if I'd pay this price to eat it again? It's a pass for me...
What if I brought my parents?
I think my mom would slap me on the back for spending this much money on this...
Crab Bibimbap
280 RMB, about ~$40

We ordered the crab bibimbap just because everyone else seemed to be ordering it.
Maybe because all our expectations were on the noodles,
but the bibimbap turned out to be surprisingly better than the noodles.
My sibling agreed with me on this too.
But of course... would I eat this again for this price? Nope.
Though I'd probably get a gentler back-smack from my mom compared to the noodles.
Drinks
free

The drinks were laid out next to the counter like in the photo,
so you can help yourself to as many as you like.

I absolutely detest sparkling water,
so I thought, 'Why just drink plain water?' and picked the plum juice instead...
But it was so strong and tasted almost like alcohol... instant regret.

I ended up liking the Evian water much better...
By the way, I only realized there was cold water available
when looking at the tablet photo while writing this blog post...
No wonder drinking room temperature water made it less refreshing... ✨️

As we were finishing up, they gave us some souvenirs.
They gave one per person, and they're actually quite pretty, so I really liked them.

On our way out, we got to draw a lucky charm from a gourd,
and each one carries a special blessing!
The green one means 'Qian Cheng Xing Guang' (前程星光), wishing for your future path to shine bright like starlight,
and the red one is 'Shun Feng Shun Shui' (顺风顺水), wishing that everything goes smoothly without any obstacles! At least, according to Gemini...

And these are the ginger tea and peanut gifts they gave us on our way home.
The reason we got them was...
There was so much crab meat left over from the crab noodles
that we decided to ask for a noodle refill.
(Lest we forget... these crab-packed noodles cost us ~$51...)
So we ordered the refill, but it never arrived no matter how long we waited.
When we asked, it turned out they missed our order...
They apologized and said they'd bring it right away if we could wait a bit,
but my sibling and I just gave up on the noodles, finished off as much crab meat as we could, and left.
Tips for Dining at Xiejia Dayuan on a Budget

If you're planning a trip to Shanghai, you're probably using Dianping (大众点评), right?
So before heading over, I bought a few
100 RMB vouchers for Xiejia Dayuan on the app to get a discount.
To apply the discount, just buy the vouchers and show them to the staff at checkout—they will apply them for you. It's a pretty sweet deal!
If you visit Xiejia Dayuan, you MUST check this out.

The restroom...
I have never seen such a ridiculously fancy restroom in my entire life.

You might be thinking, "Do I really need to check this out?" but...

They actually have a Dyson hairdryer in the restroom...
Plus, a whole range of luxury amenities.
But wait, don't be surprised just yet...

Do you see this toilet?
It's literally a throne...
Sitting there doesn't feel like using a restroom;
it feels like you're sitting in a royal court,
ready to hand down decrees to your loyal subjects...
So yes, I highly recommend taking a quick restroom tour! 🤣
✔︎ Shanghai Local Crab Noodle Spot
Heji Dayuan Review
If you're judging solely by the taste of the crab noodles, you might think, "Is it really worth this price?"
To be honest, I was hesitant to visit too because the reviews were pretty mixed.
But since I'm not a picky eater at all,
and figured it would be amazing given how expensive it is with all that Chinese mitten crab,
I went with high expectations—only to be a little underwhelmed by the noodles themselves.
Still, if you're the kind of traveler who has to try things firsthand to avoid FOMO,
or if you just want to marvel at that ultra-luxurious restroom, I'd say go for it.
Plus, there were plenty of locals when I visited.
It felt like a high-end restaurant used for hosting special guests.
Maybe the price-to-value ratio just didn't hit the mark for me personally.
It was even featured on the popular show "Hal Myung Soo," so if you're curious,
I recommend going with an open mind and keeping your expectations low!
