1. Where to start your Sokcho adventure?

When you first arrive in Sokcho, figuring out where to head first can be a bit overwhelming. My strategy? I checked into the Cassia Sokcho Hotel, grabbed a bite near Daepo Port (just steps from the resort), and then headed straight for the city's most iconic landmark: the Sokcho Eye.
The Sokcho Eye Ferris wheel is surprisingly spacious and air-conditioned. The crystal-clear cabin windows offer an absolutely stunning bird's-eye view of the East Sea and the white sandy beaches below.
After completing the full rotation, I took a stroll down to the beach. The water was incredibly clear and vibrant!
It had been a while since I last visited Sokcho Beach, and it totally reaffirmed its reputation as one of Korea's premier summer vacation spots. Seeing people picnicking on mats and swimming in the ocean was pure joy. I only had time for a quick walk this time, but I'm definitely planning a proper beach day here next time!

The Sokcho Eye faced some zoning disputes back in 2024 with the city issuing a demolition order, but a private operator appealed the decision. As of 2026, it remains fully open and operational while the legal appeals process runs its course.
2. Where to find the best Makguksu?

While Sokcho is famous for its fresh seafood, it's equally renowned for its Makguksu (cold buckwheat noodles). With so many highly-rated spots on local map apps, choosing one was tough! I eventually settled on Solbat Garden Makguksu, a famous local favorite. (Fully paid for by me, no sponsorships here!) They have a parking lot, but it gets packed, so if you arrive late, you might need to park in the nearby alleys. Thankfully, there are parking attendants to help guide you.
We ordered one Mul-Makguksu (cold broth noodles) and one Bibim-Makguksu (spicy mixed noodles), plus a Pajeon (green onion pancake) on the side because why not? Let me tell you—it totally lived up to the hype!

3. Where is the best place to stay?

Sokcho has plenty of budget-friendly accommodations, but I highly recommend treating yourself to a stay at the Cassia Sokcho Hotel at least once. With guaranteed ocean views from every room, a stunning infinity pool, and top-tier amenities, it delivers the ultimate healing experience.
It's incredibly convenient, too. Daepo Port is just a 5-minute walk away, meaning you'll never run out of amazing dining options. Plus, Sokcho Beach is only a quick 3-to-5-minute drive. Because it's still considered one of Gangwon's premier luxury hotels, weekend rates during peak season can jump quite a bit. That's why I strongly recommend locking in your reservation whenever you spot a flash deal.
