When you think of Australia, do kangaroos and koalas immediately spring to mind?
As a devoted coffee lover, my thoughts often drift to Australia's incredible coffee scene.
Sydney, in particular, boasts a reputation for its "Big Three" coffee roasters, establishments so renowned they've become local legends. Today, I'm thrilled to share my experience at one of these iconic spots: Campos Coffee in the vibrant neighborhood of Newtown.

Among Sydney's "Big Three" coffee spots, Campos is located in Newtown, a neighborhood a bit further out from the central city hub. We decided to grab our coffee to-go before heading over to visit the University of Sydney.
Since it's a little off the main tourist path, I highly recommend combining your visit to Campos Coffee with exploring the University of Sydney, just like we did, to make the most of your day!

From its vibrant green signage to its inviting facade, Campos Coffee exuded a fresh, lively atmosphere. I honestly hadn't given much thought to the cafe's ambiance beforehand, focusing solely on the coffee itself. But I was pleasantly surprised – the interior was so charming and cozy that I almost regretted getting our drinks to-go!

Since we arrived early in the morning, the cafe was bustling with people enjoying a light breakfast of coffee and pastries. It was a bright, sunny day, and the warm sunlight streaming into the cafe made the atmosphere even more inviting.
While the interior isn't massive, the clever placement of seating allowed for a surprising number of patrons. However, be aware that the tables and chairs are on the taller side, so it might not be the most comfortable spot for a long, leisurely hang-out. Still, it's absolutely perfect for a quick morning coffee and a moment of tranquility!

While our coffee was being prepared, we took a moment to browse the coffee beans and capsule coffee available for sale. Given Campos's reputation for excellent coffee, these make fantastic souvenirs or gifts for fellow coffee enthusiasts.
We didn't buy beans directly from the cafe, but later picked up some Campos capsule coffee from a supermarket in the city center as a memento. The capsule coffee was surprisingly gourmet! If you have a Nespresso-compatible machine at home, these capsules are definitely worth considering!

Our order of a Flat White and an Iced Long Black was ready in less than five minutes. We opted for takeout, planning to enjoy our coffees on a leisurely stroll to the University of Sydney.
The Iced Long Black had a pleasant, subtle acidity, and the quality of the beans was definitely apparent. However, as you might guess from the picture, the ice melted quite quickly, making the coffee less potent than I usually prefer. (If you're not an "ice-lover" like me, I'd personally recommend going for a Flat White or a hot Long Black instead!)

The Flat White, however, was a revelation. Having tried all of Sydney's "Big Three" coffees, this Flat White truly hit the spot for me. The milk was incredibly creamy and rich, perfectly complementing the coffee's smooth, non-bitter profile. The combination was simply delightful.
I loved it so much that if we hadn't been taking it to go, I would have definitely ordered another cup! The Flat White at Campos is an absolute must-try!
So, is Campos in Newtown a bit out of the way, making you hesitate?
I say, embrace the adventure! While you're exploring Sydney, why not embark on a "Big Three" coffee quest? It's a fun way to compare different coffee styles and create some unique memories. Here's to a delightful Sydney trip filled with rich, flavorful coffee!
