I'm currently on a trip to the beautiful metropolis of Shanghai with my parents,
where the Huangpu River flows.
When it comes to city hotels in Shanghai, especially those popular with Koreans,
located in the heart of this beautiful city where quaint Western-style buildings
coexist with sparkling modern high-rises, the Grand Central Hotel is definitely a top choice.
Since we hurriedly planned and departed for our trip during the year-end season,
it was quite difficult to book accommodation in Shanghai for three people.
Even though it was a filial piety trip abroad with my parents,
there were rooms costing over ~$690 per night!
So, we chose the Campanile Shanghai Bund Hotel as a cost-effective option for three people,
offering a good location and decent room conditions. We kicked off our Shanghai trip
by staying there for three consecutive nights.
I'll give you a detailed introduction to how to book a cost-effective Shanghai hotel,
its location, and the room conditions.

While the exterior might look a bit aged,
it's a moderately sized 3-star Shanghai hotel
boasting a total of 158 modern and clean rooms.
Since my parents have difficulty walking for long periods,
we used Didi taxis throughout our entire trip in Shanghai, China.
Surprisingly, even though it's a 10-15 minute walk from the bustling
Nanjing Road, the Bund street with views of the Oriental Pearl TV Tower,
and the popular 400-year-old Yu Garden tourist attraction,
it was easy to catch a taxi right in front of the hotel's main entrance, even during rush hour.
The fares are so affordable that I recommend taking a taxi
instead of the subway when sightseeing downtown with three people.
Right in front of the accommodation, there's a well-maintained, clean park
(Yanfu Greenland, 延福绿地) where locals enjoy exercising.
It was perfect for a quiet stay, surrounded by fresh greenery.
I also saw many people running in the mornings.
Around the hotel, there are small local restaurants and convenience stores.
It's also close enough to many bustling downtown restaurants for delivery,
allowing us to comfortably enjoy our China trip and stay.
2. Booking
We traveled with my parents, including a weekend, and booked a triple room.
However, even for a standard double room, children and teenagers aged 1-17 receive free accommodation,
meaning three people can stay, which makes it even more economical.
Isn't it amazing that a standard double room (with free accommodation for one child)
in a Superior Bedroom category during the regular season on a weekday is around ~$55 per night?
For our triple Superior Twin room, including the weekend,
it was around ~$69 per night, so we truly had a comfortable stay at a value-for-money Shanghai hotel.
The breakfast restaurant is located
on the first floor, right next to the front desk, offering a cozy atmosphere.
You could make a reservation in advance for around ~$10 per person,
or just apply on-site.
They had a decent spread of neat and varied dishes,
but since China is bursting with incredible food options, we decided not to sign up for it.
When I was making the reservation, I searched around extensively,
and the room rates on Agoda were the most reasonable,
so I went with them.
Not only for Campanile Shanghai Bund Hotel but also
for other popular hotels nearby, including the popular Grand Central Hotel, you can
compare prices at a glance and book at discounted rates.
3. Room Condition
Given it was a trip with my parents to show them appreciation, I did feel a bit bad
that I couldn't book a more luxurious Shanghai accommodation for them.
However, finding a triple room for a weekend was no easy feat, and for 5-star hotels
in prime tourist areas on weekends, prices often soared to around ~$690 per night for a triple room,
which felt quite burdensome.
My parents, who love to travel, said it was fine as long as the room was clean and they could sleep comfortably.
This Shanghai hotel perfectly fit the bill for great value,
and we had a wonderful 3-night stay right up until today, as I write this post.
Our WH Superior Twin Room was 21m²
and had a double bed and a single bed. It was perfect for my mom and me to share one bed,
and my dad to have the single bed to himself.
The beds were suitably soft and clean, so we truly
slept wonderfully for all three days.
The view from the window wasn't of a bustling downtown street,
but it offered a natural glimpse of the city and the park right in front,
so it didn't feel stuffy or confined.
There was a table near the TV, which was convenient for working on a laptop, and there were
plenty of outlets in various spots, like by the bed and around the desk,
making it easy to charge phones and other electronic devices.
I was worried about Shanghai being a city with poor air quality, but
the floor was clean hardwood instead of dusty carpet, which felt very hygienic.
They cleaned the room meticulously every day, and
there was enough space in various spots to spread out three suitcases comfortably.
The mini-fridge wasn't cool at all at first, but a few hours after check-in,
it got cool enough to store fruits or even towel cakes.
Two complimentary bottles of water were provided at check-in, and
whenever we passed by the front desk during our extended stay, they happily provided more.
We could also pick up disposable toothbrushes, toothpaste, combs,
and other toiletries if we wanted them.
On the table, there was an electric kettle, along with
takeaway cups, tea bags, and coffee. There was also a small safe.
The portable wardrobe had plenty of hangers, which was really convenient, and the slippers were wonderfully soft and comfortable.
However, there weren't any separate bathrobes provided.
The bathroom was great because the shower, toilet, and sink were all separated,
making it super comfortable for three of us to use.
As for basic amenities, they had soap, body lotion,
shampoo, conditioner, and body wash readily available.
I actually brought my own shower filter,
and after three days of use, it had turned slightly yellowish.
While other hotels had a similar situation, so I wouldn't say the water quality is severely bad,
if you're traveling with children or have sensitive skin,
I'd definitely recommend bringing a shower filter with you.
The hairdryer was perfectly adequate too.
With Meituan, you can get all sorts of deliveries, from groceries to restaurant meals.
It was also fun to encounter the robots diligently zipping through the hallways, delivering food and other items.
You could use the shared computers on the first floor,
and there was water available as well.
There are also comfy spaces where you can relax and unwind,
so keep that in mind!
4. Facilities & Amenities
Even though you can feel its age a little,
its comfortable atmosphere made our Shanghai trip truly enjoyable,
and it was a fantastic value-for-money choice for our three-night stay in downtown Shanghai.

If you're planning a trip for two adults and one child, or even three adults,
finding suitable accommodation can often be a challenge.
But for those seeking a practical yet well-located stay in Shanghai,
this hotel offers an unbeatable combination of value and location, perfect for travelers who prioritize substance over flashy amenities.
Even when my parents traveled abroad,
they appreciated the comfortable beds and the convenient location for catching taxis,
which truly made their precious memories shine even brighter.

and there weren't many reviews available,
so I deliberated quite a bit before finally deciding to go.
But since I had such a wonderful stay, don't worry—just go ahead and book it!
