If you're embarking on a Blue Mountains day tour from Sydney, Australia,
you'll typically find yourself enjoying lunch in the charming Leura Village.
During our own tour, we also stopped in Leura Village,
and after a bit of deliberation over what to eat, we ultimately chose this spot.
Today, if your adventures take you to Leura Village in Sydney,
I'll be introducing Cafe Leura, a fantastic spot to try a kangaroo burger – an absolute must-try at least once!

Cafe Leura operates as both a vibrant brunch cafe and a delightful restaurant,
and thankfully, it's open every single day, with no closing days!
What's more, its location is super convenient, just a stone's throw from where our tour bus drops off,
making it a breeze to find.
While there were inviting seats both inside and outside the cafe,
it was a little breezy, so we opted for a cozy spot inside.
The cafe was much more spacious than it appeared from the street.
Beyond just tables for two, they had a variety of seating options, including larger tables perfect for groups,
making it a great spot even if you're traveling with a bigger party.
We visited during peak lunchtime, and it seemed everyone else had the same idea,
as the place was already bustling.
It wasn't just fellow Koreans; we saw many Japanese and Chinese tourists too,
all flocking in at the same time, and it quickly filled up.
Cafe Leura boasted a diverse range of main dishes,
with most items being crowd-pleasers that everyone would enjoy.

Since our primary mission was to try the kangaroo burger,
we ordered the K-Burger and, naturally, a bowl of chips.
Just a heads-up: after we placed our order, we realized that the burger actually comes with a side of fries!
So you might want to keep that in mind when you order.
Now, let's dive into our honest review of the dishes we ordered.
First up, we received the Iced Long Black shortly after ordering our food.
Its taste was quite similar to an Iced Americano you'd find in Korea.
Next up, our Kangaroo Burger and fries arrived!
First off, the bowl of fries was surprisingly massive –
almost comically so! It felt like they'd used a good
3 to 4 whole potatoes!
The fries here were perfectly seasoned, hot, and crispy –
absolutely spot on! Unlike the softer, more watery potatoes common in Korea,
these had a delightful, slightly firmer texture that I really enjoyed.
Even with such a massive heap of fries,
they only gave us one dipping sauce.
While the fries are truly delicious, they can get a bit dry without enough sauce,
so my pro tip is to order an extra one when you place your order!
Next up was the moment I'd been waiting for: the Kangaroo Burger!
It came with its own little side of fries in a small bowl.
This unique burger packed in lettuce, cheese, pineapple,
onion, beetroot, and of course, a kangaroo meat patty.
While the size was perfect for one person, it was quite thick,
making it a challenge to eat in a single bite. So, I opted to cut it
in half with a fork and knife.
The kangaroo burger patty tasted somewhat similar to a regular burger,
but it was noticeably dry with almost no juiciness.
'Are kangaroos just so muscular that their meat lacks fat?'
It made me wonder.
There was also a subtle, almost indescribable aroma from the kangaroo meat
that I hadn't encountered before. But it certainly wasn't off-putting,
so it was definitely worth trying for the experience!
While it wasn't an outstanding culinary revelation,
the taste was close enough to a standard hamburger that it was perfectly acceptable.
That said, it's definitely a 'try it once for the experience' kind of dish,
rather than something I'd crave and seek out repeatedly.
To round off the meal and cleanse my palate,
I ordered a refreshing Flat White.
Australia is renowned for its excellent milk and coffee, so you can almost always
count on a successful Flat White experience. And indeed, this one was wonderfully rich and nutty!
At Cafe Leura, a beloved spot in Sydney's charming Leura Village,
I finally sank my teeth into my first-ever kangaroo burger!
The gamey flavor wasn't as intense as I'd imagined, but the patty's dryness
made it a bit of a struggle to finish without a drink.
Despite that, it's certainly not an off-putting flavor,
and I wholeheartedly recommend giving it a try at least once!
Where else would you get the chance to taste a kangaroo burger
outside of Australia, right?
The fries and coffee, on the other hand, were absolutely delightful and highly satisfying.
The fries, in particular, were piping hot and incredibly crispy –
truly a taste sensation!
So, if you're ever exploring Leura Village and looking for a great spot to grab a bite,
definitely pop into Cafe Leura for a lovely, casual meal!
