After a fun day at Ayajin Beach, we started pondering our dinner options.
Traveling with our child, we prioritized finding a raw fish restaurant (hoetjip) with a kids' menu, and that's how we discovered
Bongpo Megurijip Goseong Branch.
Parking is super easy and free at the Cheonjin Beach parking lot right in front of the restaurant,
so even new drivers will find it a breeze!
🌊Restaurant Vibes & Prime Ocean Views
Stepping into the restaurant, the first thing that undeniably captures your attention is
the breathtaking expanse of the Goseong sea, stretching out majestically beyond the windows.
The scene of tetrapods blending with the vast ocean is truly a spectacle.
With the entire front of the restaurant featuring floor-to-ceiling glass windows,
it feels like you'll enjoy a wonderful sense of spaciousness from any seat.
If you're eager to dine with the sea as your backdrop,
I highly recommend visiting before sunset to truly soak in the views!
📋Menu Lineup & Price Range
As you'd expect from a place renowned for its mulhoe (spicy cold raw fish soup),
they offer a delightful array of mulhoe variations and other hearty meal options.
With so much fresh seafood, you'll have a blast just browsing the menu, overflowing with fresh seafood delights!
Mulhoe (Spicy Cold Raw Fish Soup) ~$14 ~ ~$18
Maeuntang (Spicy Fish Stew) ~$28 ~ ~$41
Meal Dishes ~$10 ~ ~$16
Sashimi (Raw Fish) Menu ~$55 ~ ~$117
Kids' Meal ~$5
※ Please note that items like Squid Mulhoe and Wild-Caught Sashimi
are subject to market prices, so always confirm the current rate before you order!
Each table comes with a convenient tablet,
allowing you to comfortably browse the menu and place your order right from your seat.
While this spot is famous for its mulhoe, we opted for the Assorted Sashimi that day,
a fantastic course that even includes a hearty bone maeuntang (spicy fish stew)!
⚠️Heads up for families with kids!
We actually planned to order kids' meals for our little ones,
but, oh no... it just so happened that on the day we visited,
the kids' meal was temporarily sold out! Talk about bad luck! 😩
If you're planning a visit with your children,
I'd recommend giving them a quick call before your visit to confirm if the kids' meal is available.
To our disappointment, we ended up ordering abalone porridge (jeonbokjuk) and an extra bowl of plain rice for the little ones to enjoy.
And we made sure to add some Squid Sundae for ourselves!
🛍️Smooth & Stylish Takeout System
As I looked around the restaurant, I noticed quite a few customers picking up takeout orders, perhaps because there are so many guesthouses and accommodations nearby.
The dedicated sashimi takeout box and its pristine arrangement were so impressive,
so if you're looking to unwind with a glass of soju back at your accommodation, their takeout service is absolutely perfect!
Once your order is placed, they promptly bring you water to quench your thirst.
Every table is immaculately set with paper cups, wet wipes, chogochujang (spicy vinegared gochujang sauce), and soy sauce.
Soon after, abalone porridge, fried dishes, and *mulhoe* (spicy cold raw fish soup) were served.
We ordered the assorted raw fish platter, and it was great that we could also enjoy Bongpo Mauguri House's signature
*mulhoe* along with it.
The raw fish in the *mulhoe* was *saekkosi* (chopped raw fish with bones), which isn't usually my preference, but still enjoyable! 😉
Next, perfectly arranged seafood platters and an endless array of *banchan* (side dishes), prepared for a party of four,
began to fill our table beautifully.
Beyond the dazzling seafood, there was also a delightful variety of *sukidasi* (appetizers)
that were just perfect for light snacking.
And of course, plenty of other fresh seafood delights!
Once the entire spread was laid out,
our large table was completely overflowing!
Among all the deliciousness, the first thing my chopsticks reached for was *gamjatok* (potato rice cake).
It was so chewy and delicious!
And then, the star of the show arrived: the Assorted Raw Fish Platter!
The fish was thickly sliced, seemingly to maximize that delightful chewing texture.
To fully savor the raw fish,
we set up *ssamjang* (spicy dipping sauce), wasabi soy sauce, *chojang* (vinegared chili paste),
garlic, and chilies.
I dipped a thick slice of raw fish into the soy sauce and took a bite.
I was especially delighted that there were quite a few pieces of the fish fin area,
which is incredibly rich and savory!
While a small portion of abalone porridge usually comes with the basic *sukidasi* set,
we added an extra standalone abalone porridge for the kids.
It was so savory and rich that even our two-year-old baby ate it happily.
Even I, who isn't usually a big fan of raw fish, probably ate more of this abalone porridge
than the *hoe* itself! 😉
Additionally, the kids asked for separate bowls of plain rice and seaweed flakes,
which they happily mixed and ate.
If you're ever in the Sokcho or Goseong area, *ojingeo sundae* (stuffed squid sausage) is an absolute must-try!
They offer a variety of *ojingeo sundae*—original, abalone, cheese, and assorted.
Since there were so many options,
we ordered the assorted platter to try every flavor.
Seriously, make sure to order the *ojingeo sundae*!
After happily clearing a good portion of the *banchan* and raw fish,
we asked the staff for *maeuntang* (spicy fish stew).
Once all the empty dishes were swiftly cleared and the *maeuntang* pot was placed on our table,
it felt like we were starting an entirely new meal,
which was absolutely wonderful.
The longer the spicy fish stew (Maeuntang) simmers vigorously at the table,
the deeper and more flavorful the broth becomes, making it even more delicious.
Scooping up the chewy hand-pulled dough flakes (sujebi) from the spicy broth was so much fun
that I ended up eating more sujebi than plain rice! haha
On my way out, I noticed the large fish tank near the exit,
where the fish were kept incredibly fresh and well-maintained.

🎯Overall Review
Located by Cheonjin Port (Cheonjin Beach) in Goseong, it offers spacious and convenient parking. If you're staying nearby, it's also a great option to grab some Mulhoe (spicy raw fish soup) and Hoe (sliced raw fish) to go and enjoy.
Compared to the main branch in Sokcho, there's usually less waiting and a more relaxed atmosphere here. Plus, you get an unobstructed view of the tetra pods and the ocean right in front of you, making it a perfect spot to visit during your trip to Goseong, Gangwon Province.
