Sydney Coastal Walk: The Ultimate Route from Bondi Beach to Bronte Beach

Bondi Beach is a must-visit on any Sydney itinerary, but there's an incredible way to level up your beach day! I highly recommend adding the Bondi to Bronte Coastal Walk to your plans. While the entire coastal walk varies in distance depending on how far you want to go, today I’m sharing my favorite route ending at Bronte Beach.

Comparing Sydney Coastal Walk Routes

The entire Sydney Coastal Walk stretches about 6 km (approx. 3.7 miles) from Bondi Beach to Coogee Beach. The best part? You can easily start or wrap up your walk at almost any point along the way, making it super flexible!

I’ve walked this trail more than ten times, and trust me, it never gets old. Every single beach along the way has its own unique vibe and stunning views.

There are 5 main stretches you'll encounter along the way:
📌Bondi ➡ Tamarama ➡ Bronte
➡ Clovelly ➡ Gordons Bay ➡ Coogee

The easiest and most popular route is from Bondi Beach to Bronte Beach. I'll break down the details of this route below!
📌 Note: All distances and times are one-way. If you're planning a round trip, make sure to double them!
✅ Pro tip: If you visit between October and November, you'll get to experience 'Sculpture by the Sea,' a massive outdoor coastal art exhibition that makes the walk even more magical!
Bondi Beach to Bronte Beach Route
Approx. 2.3 km (1.4 miles)

The section I walked this time is the ultimate beginner-friendly route—completely hassle-free and perfect for a relaxed stroll.

Since Bondi, Bronte, and Coogee all have bustling cafes and shops nearby, I highly recommend starting your walk from one of these three spots.

The path is mostly flat with just a few gentle stairs, making it easy enough to enjoy with kids or parents. (Just a heads-up: the sections closer to Coogee have quite a few more steps!)

I chose to start at Bronte Beach and finish at Bondi Beach. My go-to ritual is picking up some fresh pastries from Iggy's Bread first, then doing the round-trip beach walk.

"The Starting Point"

① Departure: Bronte Beach Our starting point is the beautiful Bronte Beach.

It's a vibrant, lively beach loved by local youths. Thanks to the strong waves, you'll see plenty of surfers out there, and the nearby park is always filled with groups enjoying a sunny BBQ.

Just up from the beach, you'll find a row of cozy brunch spots and amazing fish and chips joints, making it the perfect place to grab a quick bite before heading out. Plus, the public restrooms here are super clean and well-maintained.

② Tamarama Beach

Keep walking for about 1.5 km along this scenic path from Bronte Beach, and you'll run right into it.

It's a cozy, quiet little beach that's a huge favorite among the locals.

The atmosphere is super lively with people playing beach volleyball, but the waves were quite rough today, so swimming was restricted.
The trail from Bronte Beach to Bondi Beach has a very gentle slope, so you'll see plenty of older travelers enjoying the stroll too.

Walking along these eastern coastal cliffs, you'll spot plenty of people just sitting solo, zoned out and staring at the gorgeous ocean. haha

③ Mackenzies Point Lookout

Soak in the ocean views for about another 1 km from Tamarama Beach, and you'll already arrive at this stunning viewpoint.

Once you reach this spot, Bondi Beach unfolds right before your eyes!

Just another 500m walk from here, and you'll reach the iconic Bondi Icebergs. The end of our coastal walk is already in sight!

There isn't much shade along the way, so a hat is absolutely essential!

"The Finish Line"
④ Bondi Icebergs - Pro tip: If you want to go for a swim, weekdays are much better than weekends! (Though the local markets only run on weekends!)
If you speed-walk the 2.4 km trail, you could easily finish it in 30 minutes. But with views this beautiful and so many photo ops, I highly recommend budgeting a leisurely 40 minutes to an hour.
Adding the Sunday Bondi Markets to your itinerary is also a fantastic idea!

Bronte Baths (Ocean Pool)

Just like Bondi Icebergs, Bronte Beach has its own charming ocean pool (Bronte Baths).

It's completely free for everyone to use, and there's a shallow area, making it absolutely perfect for families traveling with kids.
There are shower facilities located inside the restrooms, so it's super convenient to change into your swimsuit or quickly rinse off.
