When you think of a trip to Bohol, the ocean is an absolute must-see!

I recently experienced both Napakaling Snorkeling and the Balicasag Island Hopping Tour, and if you're new to Bohol or planning a compact 4-night, 6-day trip, these two are absolute must-dos! So, I've compiled this guide to share my recommendations.

🐟 Napakaling Snorkeling

This is a place where you can see tens of thousands of sardines without even venturing far from Bohol.

Just a short swim from the shore, you'll encounter a stunning drop-off, and the view there is simply breathtaking.

✔️ Booking & Price

I booked a tour in advance, and it was super convenient as the entrance fees and guide costs were all included.

Napakaling is easily accessible, making it perfect for a quick visit during your free time in the morning or afternoon.

During our packed 4-day itinerary, we scheduled Napakaling snorkeling for the morning of our third day.

✔️ Diving Spot

Watching the shimmering schools of sardines flash past right before your eyes was truly magical.

If you're into freediving, this is the perfect spot to capture some epic 'once-in-a-lifetime' shots!

It truly felt like I had plunged right into the world of Spongebob Squarepants!

We learned freediving last year, which made this trip even more fun! Haha!

Even though we're just at a fun diving level, our guide took incredible photos, perfectly capturing us at suitable spots and poses – I was so touched!

Guide Tour Pro Tip

If you entrust your GoPro to the guide, they'll capture videos for you, but make sure to check the settings beforehand!

Check if the lens is clean, if the frame rate is at maximum, and the overall quality.

✔️ Showers & Facilities

Near Napakaling, there are simple shower facilities where you can rinse off the seawater before heading back to your accommodation, which was very convenient.

🐢 Balicasag Island Hopping Tour

Next up: Balicasag!

The ocean's color here was distinctly different from Bali's.

It was pure emerald bliss.

I opted for an early morning tour on my first day.

We chose the Bohol Hanbada Hopping Tour,

and the boat was fantastic; we were really happy with it!

✔️ Turtle Watching

Balicasag is a dedicated turtle sanctuary,

so you can literally see truly massive turtles right up close!

Watching the turtles munch on seaweed,

you'll completely lose track of time!

Their population is so abundant, you absolutely don't have to worry about missing them.

✔️ Dolphin Watching & Virgin Island

Typically, if you head out early in the morning, dolphin watching is part of the package,

and we were incredibly lucky and happy to encounter a pod of dolphins!

Virgin Island, which you visit at the end of the tour,

boasts scenery straight out of a Pocari Sweat commercial – it's an absolute must for photos!

✔️ Lunch

We enjoyed a local meal right on the island,

and maybe it was because we'd just been splashing around, but it tasted absolutely amazing!

While many people brought instant cup noodles due to hygiene concerns on the island,

we were perfectly happy with our meal,

so if you're not overly sensitive about these things,

you should be fine just coming as you are.

✔️ What to Bring

Swimsuit, aqua shoes (for coral protection),

eco-friendly sunscreen,

personal snorkeling gear (if you have it, it's a plus),

and a small amount of cash for courtesy tips for your guides!

Even at Balicasag,

the guide takes underwater photos for you,

but sometimes the lens doesn't quite capture the magic.

Before they start shooting, check that the lens is clean,

and that the highest quality settings are selected,

and your photos will turn out much better!

🍯 Pro Tip 🍯

The sun in Bohol feels even more intense than in Bali.

If you don't wear a long-sleeved rash guard, you'll feel the burn incredibly fast,

so make sure to pack one!

Also, for both Napaling and Balicasag,

you'll need some cash for island entry fees,

so a bit of cash in a waterproof bag or Ziploc is absolutely essential.

seeing the sardine run at Napaling and
