A Guide Who Masterfully Captures the Atmosphere with Their Hosting Skills

THE MOST IMPORTANT THING

When we first boarded the van, an awkward silence filled the air.

But our guide gave us time for introductions

and led the atmosphere with their unique energy.

For over an hour of driving, they talked nonstop,

sharing Sydney's history, their personal experience of life in Australia,

and fascinating stories about the Blue Mountains.

Thanks to them, there was never a dull moment,

and their continuous flow of useful information quickly melted away any awkwardness

in the atmosphere.

Later, when I visited the State Library,

the information the guide had shared

made it much easier to understand Sydney's history.

Ah, so that's what they meant!

The Blue Mountains are

named for the blue haze that arises when oil components evaporated from the dense eucalyptus forests

refract sunlight,

making the entire mountain range appear bluish.

The day I visited was a bit cloudy,

so the photos don't fully capture that signature blue hue.

Even within the Blue Mountains,

we arrived at Lincoln's Rock, which became famous after Jennie (of BLACKPINK) visited,

and even though our team hurried,

there were already so many people there!

Following our experienced guide's instructions, we quickly lined up

and took photos in order.

Before going, I was so scared of sitting at the edge of the cliff

that I felt really nervous and thought I wouldn't be able to do it,

but the process was so quick

that I didn't even get a chance to say, "I'm too scared to take a picture!"

If you just close your eyes and go for it,

you can get some truly amazing photos, so definitely give it a try!

Next, we moved on to Echo Point and the Three Sisters peaks.

The scale of the lush eucalyptus forests and massive cliffs

was truly breathtaking and overwhelming.

Along the way,

there were cute animal statues

notifying us about the protection of the unique ecosystem and wildlife

of the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Blue Mountains.

They were a delightful little sight!

There were also massive, fern-like plants.

I even spotted a parrot sitting on a tree!

I also snapped a picture from the viewpoint.

Lunch in Katoomba Village

While we were on the move, we had lunch

in Katoomba Village, a town near the Blue Mountains.

There were so many shops,

but it was hilarious how everyone, as if by prior agreement, headed straight for a Korean restaurant.

Even our guide joined us all at the same restaurant!

We had bibimbap and `duru-chigi` (spicy stir-fried pork),

and they were absolutely delicious.

Stargazing Tour Canceled Due to Cloudy Weather

Opera House Night View Tour

The weather gradually turned cloudy from the moment we set off,

and by the time we reached the stargazing tour point,

the sky was completely covered in clouds.

Our guide suggested we discuss what to do,

so, unfortunately, we took individual photos at the point,

and for Plan B, we headed to the Opera House for a night view tour.

Honestly,

I thought, 'I've seen the Opera House so many times... what a shame,'

but our guide showed us the illuminated Opera House

from four different viewpoints.

By the end, we were practically saying, 'Please, just send us home!'

That's how dedicated our guide was,

making up for the missed stargazing tour

by showing us so much.

Thanks to their efforts, we got to see the beautiful Opera House

from a truly diverse range of locations.

I would have been so disappointed to miss it!

We also saw the Harbour Bridge up close,

and took photos in front of Luna Park.

Luna Park is

a charming and historic retro amusement park with a 1930s vibe, located on the northern side of the Harbour Bridge.

We also heard the story behind Mrs Macquarie's Chair,

and luckily got to see a warship docked nearby.

Mrs Macquarie's Chair:

Famous as the spot where Elizabeth Macquarie, wife of Lachlan Macquarie—who was the Governor of New South Wales, Australia in the 1810s—spent her time waiting for her husband who had sailed to England.

At that time, prisoners carved the sandstone rock into a chair shape for her to sit on.

It offers the best panoramic view of the Opera House and Harbour Bridge.

We also got a glimpse of The Rocks,

but I was sad not to explore it fully before the trip ended.

The Rocks:

This district is home to quaint sandstone buildings from Australia's early settlement days.

It's a fantastic place for dinner with a night view, with restaurants and pubs converted from old waterside warehouses located by the water.

So, the tour that started at 1 PM

finally ended past 10 PM.

It was such a worthwhile and fulfilling time,

even to the point where we were saying "Enough already!"

It felt like an incredibly packed itinerary!

The Blue Mountains tour is definitely worth it,

even if just for the experience of truly immersing yourself in nature

that would be hard to find on your own.

I think the most important aspect of any tour,

and what truly made our time feel worthwhile, was having an engaging

and veteran guide.

Even though we couldn't do the stargazing tour we were hoping for,

I don't feel any regret, which just goes to show

how much our guide's expertise

shaped our overall tour satisfaction.
