As we navigate travel in 2026, finding a destination that offers an incredible cultural experience without breaking the bank is the ultimate goal.
That's exactly why Taipei, Taiwan has become a top choice for savvy global explorers looking for world-class street food, rich history, and affordability.
But if it's your first time visiting, you might be wondering: where is the best area to stay, and what are the most budget-friendly hotels?
Today, I'm sharing my top recommendations for the best neighborhood to base yourself in,
along with three tried-and-tested, highly affordable hotels!
For anyone traveling to Taipei,
the absolute best area to stay is Ximending.
Think of it as the neon-lit equivalent of Tokyo's Harajuku or New York's Times Square.
It's incredibly convenient for tourists, packed with energy, and makes navigating the city a breeze!
Let's break down exactly why Ximending is the perfect basecamp.

Ximending refers to the bustling commercial district
located just west of Ximen Station.
As you can see from my personal travel map above,
the sheer density of pins tells the story:
this area is an absolute paradise for foodies and shoppers.
Furthermore, the public transportation access is unbeatable.

Ximen Station is serviced by both the Blue and Green MRT lines,
making it incredibly easy to reach other parts of the city.
Plus, the Airport MRT and the Kuo-Kuang Bus terminal are
only about a 10-minute transit ride (approx. 0.5 miles) away.
This makes hauling your luggage to and from the airport wonderfully stress-free.
Additionally, if you're planning to take any of the popular
day tours (like the classic Yehliu, Shifen, and Jiufen routes),
the primary meeting point is almost always Ximen Station!

Because of all these perks,
Ximending is undeniably the most convenient spot for travelers.
However, that prime location usually means higher accommodation prices.
To help you out, I've rounded up three hotels right in Ximending
that offer fantastic value for your money.
❗️ I've also included the links where I found the lowest rates,
so be sure to check them out when booking!
1. Orange Hotel Ximen
Check-in: 3:00 PM~
Check-out: ~12:00 PM
Location: 1-minute walk from Ximen Station
Price: Starts around ~$115/night (Weekdays)

📍 The first spot on our list is the Orange Hotel Ximen.
It's located a literal 1-minute walk from Ximen Station,
right on the main road, making it incredibly safe even if you're returning late at night.
They also recently completed a full interior renovation, so
everything from the facade to the lobby and the rooms is spotlessly clean and modern.

One of the best perks is the basement dining room,
which is perfect for enjoying any street food you bring back.
Even better, they offer free beverages, fresh fruit, and light snacks
24/7.
You definitely won't go hungry while staying here!

The room condition was fantastic.
Taipei has its fair share of older, dated hotels, so
the crisp, brand-new interior here was a huge breath of fresh air.
While the room isn't massive, the layout is incredibly efficient.
We had no problem fully opening our suitcases on the floor.

Plus, the room has a window, which is great for letting in
some natural light and fresh air!
(Just note that it's a cracked-open style window, not one that opens completely.)

The bathroom was pristine. The shower, toilet, and sink are
all in separate, distinct areas.
This split layout is a lifesaver if you're traveling with a friend, as it makes getting ready much faster.

There's one more massive bonus to this hotel:
Free breakfast is included!
Instead of a standard hotel buffet, you receive vouchers that can be used at nearby
MOS Burger or LOUISA Coffee locations.
Pro-tip: The LOUISA Coffee vouchers can even be used for lunch or early dinner,
giving you ultimate flexibility!
For travelers looking for a spotless, modern room with a window,
▶️ the Orange Hotel is my absolute top pick in Ximending!

2. Neijiang Hotel
Check-in: 3:00 PM~
Check-out: ~12:00 PM
Location: 4-minute walk from Ximen Station
Price: Under ~$77/night (Weekdays)

📍 Our second recommendation is the Neijiang Hotel.
Located just a 4-minute walk from Ximen Station,
this hotel is a steal, with weekday rates often dropping below ~$77 a night.
The location and value are hard to beat.

While the exterior and lobby definitely show a bit of vintage charm,
the property is exceptionally clean and well-maintained.

I was genuinely shocked when I walked into my room.
For a hotel situated right in the heart of Ximending,
the room was surprisingly huge.
We laid out two large suitcases side-by-side
and still had plenty of floor space to walk around comfortably.

The bathroom features a linear layout with the shower, sink, and toilet,
and it was spotless.
Just like the bedroom, the bathroom felt incredibly spacious the moment you opened the door—a rarity for budget hotels in this area!

However, the absolute best feature of the Neijiang Hotel
is the massive window.
Not only did it offer a great, unobstructed view of the city,
but you could actually slide it wide open.
Many hotels in downtown Taipei either lack windows entirely
or have ones that barely crack open.
Being able to let in a full breeze was incredibly refreshing.
If you prioritize space, unbeatable location, and a low price tag
over ultra-modern aesthetics,
▶️ the Neijiang Hotel is going to be your perfect match!
3. Ximen Puri Hotel
Check-in: 3:00 PM~
Check-out: ~11:00 AM
Location: 2-minute walk from Ximen Station
Price: Under ~$77/night (Weekdays)

📍 Our third and final recommendation is the Ximen Puri Hotel.
Located a mere 2-minute walk from Ximen Station,
this is another highly budget-friendly option, with weekday rates well under ~$77.

The exterior and lobby definitely have an older,
more traditional Chinese aesthetic compared to the others on this list.

The room itself is the most compact out of the three we've covered today,
and it is a windowless, cozy setup.
The bathroom isn't large either, but it maintains the highly practical
split design with a separate shower, toilet, and sink.
The glass is frosted for privacy,
so sharing the room with a travel buddy won't be awkward at all.
Because the Ximen Puri Hotel is extremely affordable,
I highly recommend it for backpackers or budget travelers who care purely about location and price. ▶️

That wraps up my top three budget-friendly hotel recommendations
in Ximending, Taipei!
No matter which of these you choose, the unbeatable location and low nightly rates
will make your 2026 Taipei adventure an absolute breeze. Safe travels!
