The very first place I headed to in Nagoya
was, of course, for some incredible meat!
Lately, I've been craving not just any meat, but specifically a comforting sukiyaki,
so I did some digging.
I really wanted to try sukiyaki made with Hida beef,
which has a stellar reputation as one of Japan's premium wagyu brands,
so I looked up their lunch options!
Hida beef actually originates from Gifu Prefecture—
specifically areas like Takayama, Hida, and the Gero Onsen region.
But since Aichi Prefecture (where Nagoya is located)
and Gifu Prefecture
are right next to each other, they are incredibly close!
This spot is highly popular not only among locals
but also with Taiwanese tourists
and global travelers alike.
It’s a very well-known restaurant!
Interior

I loved how the interior is divided into individual rooms.
You can enjoy a perfectly private dining experience.
Menu
Lunch Menu

I feel like the cost of living in Nagoya is slightly on the higher side.
So,
since dinner can be quite pricey,
we decided to go with the lunch special
and ordered two 100g portions of sukiyaki!

It’s 3,900 yen for 100g,
and requires a minimum order of 2 portions.
Since there's also a grill on the table,
we asked if we could order one portion of each (grill and sukiyaki),
but they said that wasn't possible.
So, we went ahead and ordered 2 portions of sukiyaki!

They also have shabu-shabu
and beef tartare (yukhoe) on the menu.

They also have options like Hayashi rice with beef,

and they serve a wonderful variety of shabu-shabu dipping sauces!

They even provide detailed guides on the different ways to enjoy your meal.

With so many different cuts of beef to choose from...
The dinner prices for premium cuts like kalbi (short rib) and tenderloin can be on the higher side.
But during lunch, you can enjoy top-quality Hida beef at a much more reasonable price!
You can grill it yourself, too.

They also have an impressive selection of alcoholic drinks, sake, and soft drinks ready for you.

Here is a detailed guide to all the different cuts.
I initially wondered if the 3,900 JPY Bakuro Lunch course
might be a bit light on portion size,
but I ended up leaving incredibly full and satisfied!
It comes with warm tofu and a savory sauce,
an appetizer platter featuring shrimp, sweet potato, and smoked duck, followed by fresh vegetables, dipping paste, raw veggies, konjac, mushrooms, bitter melon, and beef.
You also get two types of noodles: kishimen (flat noodles) and konjac noodles.
Rice and miso soup are included,
and they even top it all off with ice cream for dessert!

The tofu tasted so fresh, as if it had just been made.
As for the vegetables, we started grilling them
but ended up tossing them all straight into the sukiyaki pot.
Of course, you can also enjoy them raw if you prefer!
The dipping paste looks a bit like gochujang, but it has a lovely sweet flavor.

All of the appetizers are absolutely delicious!
The shrimp reminds me a bit of those crispy shrimp snacks, but the meat is so plump and tender.

Even though the portion looked small at first,
it was actually super filling,
and I loved eating it all paired with the fresh veggies.
I already feel so much healthier!

The mushrooms and vegetables were incredibly fresh, too.
And the beef? Oh my, words can't even describe it!
It literally melts in your mouth.

While Japanese beef can be a little rich and marbled,
that melt-in-your-mouth texture in just one bite
was absolutely heavenly.
The quality of the Hida beef was top-notch.
Dipping the cooked beef into the beaten raw egg
made every single bite even richer and more savory!

The only downside is that lunchtime is strictly limited to 1 hour and 30 minutes, but...

I got to try okra, a popular Japanese vegetable,
and they even had fresh bitter melon (goya)!
Granted, the bitter melon was *crazy* bitter...
Definitely a shock to the tastebuds at first bite!
But it felt so wholesome being able to eat so much healthy food.
Getting to try such a unique variety of vegetables
made the whole meal feel so special and satisfying.

Dessert Ice Cream
It was classic vanilla ice cream,
but with a drizzle of caramelized brown sugar
poured right over the top,
making it extra sweet and so delicious!

It was a perfect meal, right down to the dessert.
While some Google reviews mention the service isn't the friendliest,
and the food does tend to come out on the slower side,
(and yes, even the cola was a bit pricey!)
the dishes are just so incredibly flavorful
that it's a place I already want to visit again.
