Stumbled upon Ăn Thôi in Hoi An Old Town and it became our favorite family meal! Here's why this spot is a must-visit for authentic Vietnamese food.
Ăn Thôi Hoi An Old Town Review
An Honest, Self-Funded Family Dining Experience
If you've researched Da Nang or Hoi An, you've probably heard of Ăn Thôi.
It's one of those places everyone raves about!
I had it bookmarked for our trip,
and while strolling through Hoi An Old Town near the Night Market,
we stumbled upon it completely by chance and walked right in.
Here is my honest, unsponsored review of Ăn Thôi Hoi An 🙌🏻

Originally, we tried to visit
the Ăn Thôi branch in Da Nang city.
But to our dismay, the waitlist was incredibly long!
Since traveling with a child means long waits are out of the question,
we ended up going to Tien Kim instead.
(Tien Kim was delicious, by the way!)
Still, I was a bit bummed we missed out on Ăn Thôi.
Fast forward to our Hoi An tour: while exploring the Old Town and Night Market,
I spotted that familiar Ăn Thôi sign!
I thought, "Wait, there's a branch here too?"
After confirming there was no wait,
we didn't hesitate for a second and walked right in!
The iconic yellow walls paired with traditional Vietnamese lanterns
captured that perfect Hoi An aesthetic.
The interior was spotless, and the tables were well-spaced,
making it very comfortable for families with kids.
The restrooms were also surprisingly clean and well-maintained.
Shortly after we sat down,
a staff member came over and kindly let us know
that a large group was sitting behind us and it might get loud.
They offered to move us to a quieter table,
which we gladly accepted!
Top-tier customer service 👍🏻
2. Menu & Taste Review
Our family isn't usually huge on
super traditional Vietnamese cuisine,
so we opted for crowd-pleasing dishes
that everyone could enjoy.
Banh Xeo: 109,000 VND (~$4.50)
Nem Lui (Pork Skewers): 135,000 VND (~$5.50)
Pineapple Fried Rice: 139,000 VND (~$5.75)
We also ordered some fresh pineapple and lemon juices.
For the Nem Lui, the staff actually demonstrated how to eat it
and wrapped the first few for us.
They placed veggies, meat, and sauce onto the rice paper
and rolled it up perfectly, making it so easy to eat.
My kid even wanted to eat the meat skewers whole.
Seeing my child, who usually shies away from unfamiliar foods,
enjoying the local cuisine made me so happy.
The Banh Xeo was an absolute winner!
Generously stuffed with egg, seafood, and fresh veggies,
it was perfectly crispy on the outside and moist inside.
Unlike some places where it can feel too greasy,
this was light and addictive.
Dipping the fresh greens into the savory sauce
made me realize exactly why
Ăn Thôi is so highly recommended!!
The Pineapple Fried Rice served inside an actual pineapple
was a 10/10 for presentation.
The shrimp were plump and meaty,
adding a great texture,
and the flavor wasn't overly sweet, so my kid loved it.
If we weren't traveling as a family, we might have skipped the fried rice,
but when you travel with kids,
ordering at least one fried rice dish is practically mandatory!
Thankfully, it was delicious.
The drinks were also fantastic and super refreshing!
4. Perfect for Families with Kids
During our previous trip to Phu Quoc,
we only searched for Korean restaurants. Packed rice and instant noodles were essentials.
But on this Da Nang and Hoi An trip,
we didn't have to open a single pack of our emergency food!
It felt like my child's palate
had matured so much over the past few months.
Seeing them happily eat Nem Lui and fried rice
made this trip feel so much more rewarding.
After paying the bill, the staff handed us
a coupon for a free coconut coffee at Central Market.
Since Central Market is right next door,
we headed straight there for a quick cup.
It's these little touches of hospitality
that elevate a good vacation into a great one!
I was initially disappointed thinking we'd miss out on Ăn Thôi,
but finding this branch by accident
turned into one of the best dinners of our trip.
Great ambiance, fantastic food,
incredibly friendly staff,
and a welcoming environment for kids—
Ăn Thôi Hoi An checks all the boxes!
If you're planning a trip to Da Nang or Hoi An in 2026,
I highly recommend grabbing at least one meal
at Ăn Thôi in the Old Town.
Who knows, you might stumble upon it
and have a wonderful surprise experience just like we did! 😆😆
