Discover why amba Taipei Ximending is the perfect clean, spacious, and budget-friendly hotel for your next 2026 trip to Taiwan's vibrant capital.

Hey everyone! It's Kkurin :)
Today, I'm sharing a review of the Taipei hotel
I stayed at during my recent trip with Taetae ✨
The place we chose was
amba Taipei Ximending.
While planning this Taipei trip,
I compared so many different hotels.
My must-have criteria were:
1) Absolutely zero mention of cockroaches in the reviews
2) Quiet enough that hallway noise wouldn't wake me up
3) Spacious enough to easily lay out two large suitcases
The perfect match that checked all these boxes
(and a highly recommended spot in Ximending) was
amba Taipei Ximending.
Taipei real estate is notoriously expensive, with average hotel rooms starting around ~$192 a night,
but I managed to snag this ultimate value-for-money spot in the ~$64 range!
This is the link where I got the absolute best deal with breakfast included, free cancellation, and a price match guarantee!

making it super convenient to check off
all the must-see spots in Taipei!
If you're planning on doing the popular Yehliu, Shifen, and Jiufen day tours,
the meetup spot is only about a 10-minute walk from the hotel.
It was so nice to have a relaxed morning stroll
while soaking in the city streets on our way there!
1. Late-Night / Early Morning Check-in
Since we took a late-night flight,
we didn't arrive at the hotel until around 2:00 AM.
I was a bit worried because many hotels abroad don't have 24-hour reception,
but thankfully, there was staff at the lobby desk
so we could check in right away.

Lobby of amba Taipei Ximending
The staff spoke excellent English,
so I didn't even have to open a translation app.
We could easily communicate basic guidelines and requests.
The lobby and common areas had such a trendy, stylish vibe.
Instead of feeling like a stuffy business hotel,
it felt like a young, casual, and modern Taipei stay.

The space connecting to the breakfast area was also very spacious,
so whether we were checking in or just taking a quick breather,
it felt open, relaxing, and comfortable!

2. Room Type: Large King Room
The room we stayed in was the
Large King Room at amba Taipei Ximending.

amba Taipei Ximending Large King Room
The name makes it sound like there's just one standard king bed,
but it was actually two super single beds pushed together.
We actually loved this setup because the bed was massive—
even with two people, it felt incredibly spacious.
I went on this trip as a couple with Taetae,
but this setup would be more than roomy enough if you're traveling with a friend!

Large King Room Layout
I'd often read reviews saying that accommodations in Taiwan
either have no windows or very small ones,
but this place had a huge window, letting us wake up to the beautiful morning sun.
Oh, and when booking, I happened to mention it was our anniversary,
and they hung up this adorable little garland in our room! Haha.
It's a small gesture, but
it made me smile every time I saw it! 😊

Table in the Large King Room
Inside the room, there was a large table shaped like a vinyl record and some chairs,
which made it the perfect spot for enjoying convenience store snacks or takeout.
In fact, we ended up ordering late-night food every single night,
pairing it with local craft beer and fun snacks from the convenience store!

Enjoying the table at amba Taipei Ximending
Wine glasses were already provided in the room,
and we were able to borrow cutlery from the breakfast restaurant
just across the lobby by giving them our room number 👍
Though I missed getting a photo of it, there was also a metal clothes rack,
which was super handy for hanging up our outfits for the next day or placing our daypacks.

Also, instead of those typical flimsy disposable slippers,
they provided actual flip-flops!
We could wear them around the room
or easily slip them on when going down for breakfast,
which turned out to be a major plus!
3. Bathroom & Amenities
The first thing I loved as soon as we walked in
was that the bathroom and sleeping area were separated by a curtain.
It didn't feel completely closed off,
yet we could draw the curtain for privacy whenever needed,
making it super convenient for the two of us!

amba Taipei Ximending Bathroom Layout
The bathroom features a split layout,
with the shower and toilet separated.
Because of this split design,
one of us could shower in the morning
while the other used the toilet,
so we never got in each other's way while getting ready.

Toothbrushes and toothpaste were not provided in the room,
but since we were notified about this in advance via email when booking,
we simply brought our own and didn't mind at all.
Shampoo, conditioner, and body wash were provided,
but they have a distinct ginger scent.
If you're sensitive to scents, you might want to pack your own toiletries.
4. Room Cleanliness & Condition
When I was choosing where to stay in Taipei,
my absolute top priority was cleanliness.
I'd occasionally come across horror stories in other hotel reviews
mentioning things like cockroaches,
which made me extra cautious during my search.
For the record, I am seriously...
so terrified of bugs that I can't even handle a tiny ant! 😭
But at amba Taipei Ximending,
we didn't see a single bug during our entire 5-day stay,
and the floors were so clean we barely saw a stray hair! Spotless!!
We barely heard any noise from other guests in the hallway either,
which made for incredibly peaceful, quiet nights of rest.
The AC was fully adjustable right from the room,
so we could keep it on a gentle, comfortable setting while sleeping.
The housekeeping service was also fantastic.
On days when we headed out late, we simply notified the front desk,
and they ensured everything was tidy before we returned.
5. Overall Verdict
If I ever head back to Taipei,
I would absolutely choose amba Taipei Ximending again in a heartbeat.
The location is incredibly convenient, with Ximending Station,
the night market, and the Rainbow Road all within easy walking distance.
And it wasn't just the amazing location—
the spacious rooms, perfect cleanliness, and excellent soundproofing
ticked every single box for us!
I highly recommend this spot to anyone planning a romantic getaway
to Taiwan and searching for the perfect basecamp in Ximending.
We had such a relaxing and comfortable 5 days,
and Taetae and I kept telling each other how glad we were to have booked this place!
If you're looking for the ultimate combo of location, cleanliness,
and spacious rooms for your Taiwan adventure,
I highly recommend the Large King Room at amba Taipei Ximending😊
