Fukuoka is always a beloved destination
for travelers heading to Japan, isn't it?
Recently, my brother's family, my son, and I—a total of five of us—
headed out on a combined work and leisure trip,
which had us searching for the perfect Fukuoka accommodation for 5 people.
Since it was the spring season and coincided with Japanese public holidays,
hotel prices in Fukuoka were pretty high.
Booking two separate rooms for our families
was a bit of a budget stretcher. So after searching for a place where all 5 of us could stay together,
we ended up booking
Alfacio Riverside Stay Hakata
(ALFACIO RIVERSIDE STAY HAKATA).
And we had a wonderful time!
As an apartment-style hotel,
the check-in and stay process can be a little different from standard hotels.
So, I’m going to share all the details—from its lovely Nakas riverfront location and check-in tips,
to the room condition and check-out process.
Let's dive right in!
1. Location & Booking
My brother and I travel to Japan quite often for both work and leisure,
so we often look for budget-friendly apartment-style stays during peak seasons.
Without any hesitation,
we booked this place on Agoda and headed out.
These kinds of Japanese apartments have clear pros and cons,
but the check-in system and general condition are usually quite similar.
For a 5-person Standard Triple Room,
during the early spring peak season including Japanese holidays,
we booked it for 4 nights at around ~$890.
At the time, this was by far the most reasonable rate
among all the nearby options.
They offer a wide range of room sizes, accommodating 2 to 6 people,
so you have plenty of great options to choose from.
Generally, it's much friendlier on the wallet than nearby star-rated hotels,
and the biggest highlight is that
large families or groups of friends can stay together
comfortably in one single room.

It's about a 15-20 minute taxi ride
from Fukuoka Airport,
about 5 minutes by taxi from Hakata Station,
or a comfortable 15-minute walk.
2. How to Check In
I read many reviews saying they received instructions via email
the day before check-in. In my case, after booking Alfacio Riverside Stay Hakata,
I received a detailed message directly on Agoda the day before.
It included the front door passcode, my Check-in ID,
and important guidelines, which made
the check-in process super smooth and easy!
Since it's an unmanned front desk,
you connect with a staff member via a video call on the provided tablet.
Because of this system, you need to make sure
you complete your check-in by 10:00 PM.
Since our two families were arriving separately,
I submitted everyone's passport photos and details
via Agoda message the day before. Because of this, they just had to verify my passport (as the group representative)
during the quick tablet call, and we checked in right away.
For luggage storage, there is a shared space on the 1st floor
where you can secure your bags using a dial lock
either before check-in or after check-out.
However, there is a time limit for this service, so be sure to double-check the rules!
Also, when checking in, there is a Japanese accommodation tax
(200 JPY per person, per night) that needs to be paid separately.
I happened to have some cash on hand,
so I placed it directly in the collection box as guided by the staff.
The staff member spoke excellent English (and Korean!),
so there was absolutely no communication barrier.
Just remember to take a photo of
your room number and door passcode
that appear on the screen at the end of the check-in. It will make your stay so much easier!
Checking out is even simpler!
Once you check out, you won't be able to
re-enter the room. So make sure you do a thorough sweep
to ensure you haven't left any of your belongings behind!
3. Standard Triple Room Tour & Condition
After taking the elevator up
to our assigned floor,
we were greeted by an open-air hallway.
As is typical for Japanese accommodations, the room size was around 35m² (approx. 376 sq ft) for a 5-person capacity.
I was slightly worried it might feel a bit cramped for five of us,
but since we were already quite used to
the notoriously tiny hotels in Fukuoka, this actually felt surprisingly spacious and comfortable!
In the main bedroom, which looks out over the beautiful Nakasu River,
there were two double beds.
Just outside the sliding door, the living room area (which doubles as a second sleeping space)
had a single bed and a small TV.
There was also a cozy sofa that fits 2 to 3 people,
which was perfect for the kids to sit and enjoy some snacks.
Right next to it was a closet, handy for hanging bulky jackets,
and the space underneath
was ideal for laying out our suitcases.
The refrigerator in the kitchen area was much larger than standard hotel mini-fridges,
which was amazing for stocking up on delicious local snacks and drinks.
With a sink and basic kitchen utensils and tableware
all provided, it felt just like staying in a cozy resort
where you can make yourself right at home.
There was also a microwave, which made reheating snacks for the kids super convenient,
and there was a designated space
to easily sort and dispose of recycling.
Even though it's an unmanned hotel, each room is equipped with
a tablet that connects you directly to a staff member if you need help.
The bathroom is smartly divided into separate zones: a laundry area, a vanity sink, a bathtub/shower room,
and a separate toilet room.
Because everything is compartmentalized,
our family trip to Fukuoka with the kids
was super smooth without any morning bathroom rushes!
As a Fukuoka accommodation for 5 people,
we were provided with one large towel and one small towel per person.
Additional towels come with a fee, so
since we stayed for 4 nights, we just used the in-room washing machine to wash and reuse them!
Most apartment-style accommodations in Japan
operate with this kind of self-service setup.
As for amenities, they provided shampoo, conditioner, body wash,
hand soap, toothbrushes, toothpaste,
and a hairdryer.
4. Wrapping Up
Today, I introduced
ALFACIO RIVERSIDE STAY HAKATA,
an excellent choice
for a family of 5 traveling to Fukuoka.
The biggest pros are definitely the generous space (especially for Japan!),
the highly reasonable rate for accommodating 5 people,
and the peaceful neighborhood vibe where you can relax
while enjoying the lovely Nakasu River view.

It's so close to Canal City that you can walk there in no time,
and with so many great restaurants nearby, if you're staying here with friends,
you won't have a single boring moment even late into the night.
It's also surprisingly close to Hakata Station,
so when we headed out to explore nearby small towns,
we could easily stroll to the station while taking in the neighborhood vibes.
The downside is that there's no hotel-style room service,
like daily cleaning or fresh towel exchanges.
If it's your first time staying in an apartment-style rental,
the check-in process might feel a bit unfamiliar at first.
Also, when taking a taxi, drivers might not recognize the apartment name,
so it's super handy to keep a screenshot
of the address clearly shown on your phone
to show them when you hop in.
Of course, if budget isn't an issue,
staying at a luxury high-end hotel in Fukuoka
for consecutive nights would be amazing. But with a busy itinerary packed with food and sightseeing
during a family trip to downtown Japan,
I really didn't want to splurge on a pricey hotel
during peak season when we're barely in the room.
"Let's use that money to treat ourselves to one more delicious meal,"
"or buy another fun toy for the kids!"
That was my thinking,
which is why we often choose budget-friendly, apartment-style stays
and they work out incredibly well for us.

Check-in is available from 4:00 PM, and since it operates with an unmanned front desk system, it must be completed by 10:00 PM. You can enter your room after speaking with a staff member via tablet using the front entrance passcode and ID provided the day before check-in.
Hotel-style room services such as cleaning or towel replacement are not provided. Only one large and one small towel per person are provided by default. Additional towels incur a fee, so you should use the washing machine in the room.
An accommodation tax of 200 JPY per person per night must be paid separately upon check-in. You can pay in cash by placing it in the collection box following the instructions of the staff via the tablet at the unmanned front desk.
It takes about 15 minutes on foot or 5 minutes by taxi from Hakata Station, and about 15 to 20 minutes by taxi from Fukuoka Airport. When using a taxi, drivers may not know the apartment's name well, so it is convenient to show them a screenshot of the address.
