Yakiniku Mutsumi Tokyo: Unforgettable Wagyu in Yotsuya
Prepare for a culinary revelation! Yakiniku Mutsumi in Tokyo's Yotsuya district offers premium wagyu that will redefine your Japanese BBQ expectations.

When you travel to Japan, yakiniku is definitely a must-try.
Honestly, I used to wonder if it was really that different from the meat I eat in Korea,
and I honestly wasn't that impressed.
But this time, at Yakiniku Mutsumi, the restaurant I recently visited,
I had the best yakiniku of my life, and it completely changed my mind!
Japan's premium wagyu is truly on another level...!
Location

Yakiniku Mutsumi is located a bit away from Shinjuku Station,

Interior Vibe

I made a reservation for a weekend evening and visited in advance.
As expected of a high-end restaurant, the place was impeccably clean overall,
and the quiet atmosphere was absolutely wonderful.

Seats for 1-2 people, private rooms,
and private seating are available.
Groups are welcome too!

The seats along the corridor have blinds that can be lowered,
which was great for enjoying our meal without worrying about other guests.

On the table, basic settings like aprons, salt, and pepper were already laid out,
and first, they brought us a warm wet towel.
Menu

While there isn't a Korean menu, it's all written in English,
so ordering is quite easy.
They offer a wide variety of meat cuts,
and a great selection of alcoholic beverages too.
We ordered the Mijugahyo set, priced at 11,000 yen per person.
Mijugahyo Course

Of course, you can't have yakiniku without draft beer and salad!
It's lettuce topped with green onions, regular onions, carrots, and a delicious sauce drizzled over it,
and perhaps because of the fresh black pepper, it had a nice, subtle kick of spice!

And just like that, our incredible main meat platter arrived!
Just look at that gorgeous color and marbling – absolutely stunning, wouldn't you agree?!
Now, this isn't just any wagyu! Mikomano Beef is a highly prized black wagyu, incredibly rare with only about 100 cattle shipped annually.
They're raised without stress, ensuring they're healthy, and that's precisely why it tastes so exceptionally good!

And shortly after, the savory soy sauce egg rice arrived!
This wasn't just any soy sauce egg rice; it was significantly more fragrant and utterly delicious than what we usually make at home.
Plus, it was an absolutely perfect companion to the beef!

You can enjoy the beef with two distinct special sauces, or keep it simple with the salt conveniently placed on the table.

We started grilling from the top, savoring the chuck flap and then the prime ribeye first.
(I definitely heard the staff explain the cuts, but my memory failed me, so I enlisted the help of AI to identify them! 😂)

These are often considered some of the most delicious cuts, and the moment they touched my tongue, I truly understood what 'melts in your mouth' really means!
And I'm not exaggerating when I say this: it was truly the most exquisite beef I have ever tasted in my entire life… it was absolutely moving!

The course also included braised beef tendon, which tasted somewhat like Korean Galbijjim, but with a wonderfully cleaner flavor profile.

They also thoughtfully provided an array of delicious accompaniments like kimchi, natto, and seaweed – perfect for enhancing the beef!

You can truly tell this breed is different from regular cattle; not only was there absolutely no unpleasant gamey smell, but it was also perfectly seasoned even when eaten plain, without any salt or sauce!

Even the leaner cuts were remarkably savory and bursting with juiciness, allowing me to enjoy them continuously without ever feeling overwhelmed!

Next, the familiar cube-shaped short ribs! They have a wonderful steak-like texture, and when paired with the soy sauce egg rice, it's like a delectable mini donburi – absolutely delicious!

How can every single cut be so incredibly tender and bursting with flavor?! Usually, with yakiniku, you might start to feel a bit full after a while, but I could genuinely enjoy every piece until the very last bite without feeling overwhelmed!

If you find yourself searching for an exceptional yakiniku spot during your Tokyo adventures, skip the ordinary and treat yourself to an unforgettable experience at Yakiniku Mutsumi! I wholeheartedly recommend their Mizukahyo course for a truly delightful and satisfying feast of premium wagyu!
