The storefront was adorned with charming, adorable illustrated menus.
We arrived around 9:30 AM and were lucky enough to walk right in without any wait. The shop isn't huge, but a cozy bar table inside was free, so we grabbed a seat instantly!
You order and pay at the counter. It was fascinating to see so many people enjoying churros inside the shop, even first thing in the morning!
In one corner of the shop, a staff member was continuously piping and frying fresh churros, a mesmerizing sight!
The sign at the entrance proudly displays 'Since 1962,' and seeing those old photos on the wall truly made it feel like an authentic, time-tested local gem.

We ordered the Mixto con chocolate – a delightful combination set featuring three thin churros, two thicker porras, and a rich hot chocolate.
Churros, Porras, and Rich Hot Chocolate
The three thin churros and two thick porras arrived together on one plate, looking incredibly appetizing. They didn't provide forks, so be prepared to eat with your hands – but don't worry, they thoughtfully provide wet wipes!
The churros were freshly fried and warm, perfectly crispy on the outside and wonderfully soft inside. They weren't overly greasy, making them surprisingly light and enjoyable.
The porras, thicker and fluffier than regular churros, had a delightful fried bread-like texture. We dipped both into the thick hot chocolate!
The hot chocolate offered a deep, intense chocolate flavor that wasn't overly sweet, which was a pleasant surprise. It was the perfect complement to the fried pastries.
Keep an Eye on Your Belongings in Small Shops
Inside the shop, a sign reminded customers to TAKE CARE OF YOUR BELONGINGS.
While we didn't experience any issues ourselves, the shop is small and can get quite crowded, so it's always wise to keep your bags close in Barcelona.
Enjoying churros and hot chocolate for breakfast is a uniquely Spanish experience you might not typically find back home, and it made our visit to Xurreria Laietana in Barcelona truly memorable and exciting! If I ever return to Spain, you can bet I'll be indulging in Spanish churros again. 🇪🇸 Until next time, happy travels! ✨
