El Prat Airport's Gem: Enrique Tomas
Hey there, fellow travelers! It's your Spain travel blogger here.
On my last trip through Spain, I had an early morning flight out of Barcelona and didn't have a chance to eat anything before hopping on the airport bus.
Waking up early and rushing to the airport definitely worked up an appetite!
With some time to spare before boarding, I stumbled upon Enrique Tomas at Barcelona Airport, and I'm excited to share my experience.
1. Breakfast at Barcelona Airport T1
📍 Enrique Tomas
Zona Espada, Aeropuerto del Prat - T1 Planta 00, Local 00311L10008, 08820 El Prat de Llobregat, Barcelona, Spain
Operating Hours | 5:00 AM - 10:00 PM |
Closing Days | None |

My domestic flight from Barcelona to San Sebastián was scheduled for early morning, so I had to get up and ready super early.
It's funny how I rarely eat breakfast at home, but when I'm traveling, I always wake up hungry!
After checking in, I looked around for a good spot to grab a bite.
2. Enrique Tomas: A Jamón Specialist

At the airport, I spotted a remarkably large and clean bocadillo shop.
Its sign proudly displayed the name Enrique Tomas.
Regalar Jamón es decir 'te quiero'
To give ham is to say 'I love you'
Haha, this quote is prominently featured on the Enrique Tomas website. (And honestly, for me, jamón truly is love!)
As the slogan suggests, this place specializes in jamón.
They have numerous locations, primarily in airports and train stations. Surprisingly, they even have a branch in China (at Shenzhen Airport).

True to its reputation as a jamón specialist, whole legs of cured ham hung inside.
The display cases were filled with various bocadillos made with different types of jamón and other cured meats.
Being a huge fan of jamón bocadillos, I was instantly drawn in.
Since it's an airport establishment, the staff naturally speak English, but if you find ordering challenging, don't hesitate to simply point to the bocadillo you want in the display case!
3. How Do Enrique Tomas Bocadillos Taste?

My husband and I each ordered one. How did the jamón-filled bocadillos taste? Absolutely incredible!
If you have the option, I highly recommend choosing a bocadillo made with the highest grade of jamón, like the Bellota grade. The flavor is significantly richer and more nuanced.

The bread, topped with sesame seeds, was wonderfully savory and nutty.
Wherever I go, I always opt for the jamón + cheese bocadillo. The coffee (whether it was a latte or a cortado, I can't quite recall) was perfectly decent, and the orange juice, like in many Spanish restaurants, was freshly squeezed. You can't go wrong with that!
I've written about having bocadillos for breakfast in Barcelona before. There are several types of bocadillos, but again, aim for the Bellota grade jamón if possible. The cheese version usually features a hard cheese like Manchego. Don't worry, its flavor isn't overpowering.
Bocadillos with chorizo are also a great option. Chorizo is a slightly spicy sausage, which tends to appeal to many palates.
However, keep in mind that all cured meats can be quite salty. That's just the nature of salted hams!
So, I recommend approaching them with an open mind and appreciating their authentic flavor profile :)
Wishing you a fantastic trip to Spain!
Buen Viaje!
The Enrique Tomas Barcelona Airport store is located in Terminal T1, Planta 00, Local 00311L10008. It operates daily from 5 AM to 10 PM, with no days off.
It's best to choose a bocadillo with the highest grade of jamón, the Bellota grade, if possible. The flavor is much better. The jamón + cheese version or the chorizo bocadillo are also good options.
If ordering is difficult, you can point to the bocadillos in the showcase to place your order. Cold cuts are cured hams and can be salty, so it's recommended to try them with an open mind regarding their saltiness.
