My First Taste of Spanish Churros in Barcelona, a Memory to Cherish!🇪🇸
Since we hadn't booked breakfast at our accommodation, my partner and I were on the hunt for a good spot to grab an early bite near our hotel. That's when my partner stumbled upon a Google Maps gem: an incredibly historic churros spot!
So, bright and early, we set off to find it!
Our destination was Granja La Pallaresa, nestled on Petritxol Street in the heart of the Gothic Quarter.
📍 Room Mate Pau
Carrer de Fontanella, 7, Eixample, 08010 Barcelona, Spain
📍 La Pallaresa
Carrer de Petritxol, 11, Ciutat Vella, 08002 Barcelona, Spain
From our Barcelona accommodation, Room Mate Pau, it was about a 10-minute walk.

Perhaps because it was still early morning, Petritxol Street was almost deserted, and the alleyways were quite narrow.
It felt a little eerie and quiet to me, almost spooky!

As we walked along the alley, we finally spotted the Granja La Pallaresa sign!
We made it! ✨

Granja La Pallaresa: Barcelona's Iconic Churros Spot, Established in 1947
The first thing that caught my eye on the exterior was the sign proudly displaying DESDE 1947.

Curious, I looked up their official website and learned that the space originally sold milk before transforming into a 'granja' (a traditional Catalan cafe specializing in chocolate and desserts) in 1947.
As of our visit in 2026, this place has been a Barcelona staple for almost 80 years!

My partner had mentioned it was an old churros spot, but seeing the year on the sign truly solidified its legacy.
We arrived around 9 AM, which felt like right after they opened. Inside, there were only a couple of customers, so plenty of empty tables and a wonderfully peaceful atmosphere.

An elderly gentleman was enjoying his breakfast alone, and soon after, a couple and a family joined us.
Granja La Pallaresa Menu and Prices
Upon entering, a staff member showed us to a table, so we settled in to browse the menu.
Good news for international travelers: the menu was in English!

Once we decided, a staff member came to our table to take our order. After enjoying our meal, we paid at the counter on our way out.
The service was efficient and straightforward, not overly chatty, which felt perfectly authentic to us.
Barcelona Morning Churros and Chocolata Review
Finally, my very first churros experience in Spain! We ordered three items:
✔️MINI XOCOLATA 2.75 Euros
✔️XURROS 2.50 Euros
✔️TALLAT 1.85 Euros

The Chocolata, served in a cup, looked incredibly rich and dark, making me expect it to be super sweet. But to my delight, it wasn't overly sugary, which I really appreciated.

The Churros were also different from what I'd tried back home. Instead of being heavily coated in sugar, they were quite plain and savory, making them the perfect companion for dipping into the rich chocolata. This combination really hit the spot for us!

A Tallat is a Catalan-style coffee, essentially an espresso with a splash of milk. The staff member came over to pour the milk for us, adding a nice touch.

My partner and I happily munched away, and with some chocolate still remaining, we couldn't resist ordering another plate of churros to finish it off!☕️

Eating churros for breakfast was definitely a first for me, and it's these unique experiences that make travel so exciting!
However, starting the day with fried churros did feel a *little* heavy towards the end. Delicious, yes, but perhaps a bit much for a first meal of the day.
(Despite that, we actually went for churros breakfast again on another day!)
If you're curious about traditional Barcelona churros and want to visit a truly historic and renowned spot, Granja La Pallaresa is definitely worth a stop!
Enjoying our first Spanish churros breakfast in a quiet, charming cafe with my partner was truly a memorable moment, now happily documented! ✨

Unlike churros eaten in Korea, these churros are rather plain, with less sugar flavor. The chocolata is dark in color but not as sweet as one might expect, making it a perfect match for dipping the plain churros.
