A Double Room Stay Experience

The view from our terrace.
My first impression of Munich, Germany, wasn't anything special. But my second visit? Absolutely loved it!
And you know what plays a huge role in shaping your travel experience? Your accommodation!
That's why I'm recommending Wombat's City Hostel, right by Munich Central Station.
While dorms can be a bit of a mixed bag, we opted for a private double room, which offered incredible comfort and a fantastic price point. Its location, literally a minute or two from the Central Station, is unbeatable!
Overall Score & Pros & Cons ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 👍🏻 Pros ✅ Unbeatable location ✅ Better price than most standard double room hotels ✅ Friendly reception staff (some even know a few English phrases – though this can vary!) 👎 Cons ✅ Shower drainage was a bit slow, but daily cleaning kept it perfectly fine |
1. Location, Location, Location!
📍 Where's the Best Hotel in Munich, Germany?
📍 Wombat's City Hostel - Munich
Senefelderstraße 1, 80336 München, Germany
We arrived in Munich at 6:30 AM after an overnight train from Venice.

Munich Central Station
Even with a sleeper cabin, an overnight train ride can leave you feeling pretty tired.

An optimal, incredibly close location
Dragging our luggage from Munich Central Station, we barely walked a few steps before arriving at the hostel! It was such a relief.
The place we stayed was Wombat's City Hostel (sometimes also spelled Wombats).
Unfortunately, check-in wasn't until 2:00 PM, so we stored our luggage and waited in the lobby.

2. Hotel Essentials
📍 Munich Central Station Hotel Basic Information
My partner and I had previously stayed in a dormitory and found it a bit tiring. That's why we specifically booked a double room here. Even though it's a hostel, having a private double room meant we could enjoy a comfortable and private stay.
Check-in: 2:00 PM
Check-out: 10:00 AM
Since we arrived super early, around 7:00 AM, early check-in wasn't an option for us. However, if you arrive a little before the standard check-in time, it might be worth asking the reception if they can accommodate you.
Its proximity to Munich Central Station was a huge plus – we could find it easily without even needing a map.

The lobby, which even displays Seoul time.
The lobby itself felt clean and had a vibrant, youthful atmosphere, and the staff were generally friendly. There seem to be quite a few international travelers, so some staff members even knew a few basic English phrases.
3. Room Condition
📍 Wombat's City Hostel Double Room
We booked a double room! For me, having a private space within a hostel was the biggest advantage.

The double bed
The bed was neatly made, and having two separate duvets was a nice touch. Besides double rooms, they also offer twin rooms (with two single beds), making it a great option for friends traveling together.

Private bathroom
Our room also came with a private bathroom, complete with a hairdryer. After dealing with a cramped bathroom in our Venice accommodation, it was refreshing to have decent shower pressure and consistent hot water here. While the drainage was a tad slow, the daily cleaning ensured it felt perfectly hygienic.

The private terrace table.
Our double room also featured a small terrace. It wasn't huge, but it offered a charming view. Instead of a bustling city skyline, we looked out over the unique European rooftops of the hostel itself – perfect for a quiet moment of reflection.

4. Pre-Check-in Tips
📍 Tips for Spending Time if You Arrive Early
We didn't opt for breakfast at the hostel, choosing to eat out instead (though you can add breakfast or use the communal kitchen if you prefer).
While waiting for check-in in the lobby:

The lobby: Quiet in the morning, lively at night.
✅ We were able to charge our phones and even catch a quick nap.
✅ The atmosphere is relaxed and generally quiet in the mornings, making it easy to rest without feeling self-conscious.
✅ You can store your luggage and take a stroll around Central Station or even explore Marienplatz. It's the perfect way to pass the time!
After spending our morning this way and grabbing lunch, it was finally check-in time!
5. Pricing
📍 Is it Good Value for Money?
Summer is typically peak season for Europe travel, including in 2026.

Double room bed
During this time, a 6-person dormitory typically costs around ~$38-45 per person. A private double/twin room is usually around ~$128 per night. If you're traveling with a friend or partner, that's about ~$64 per person – a very reasonable price!
While prices can fluctuate based on dates, I consider this to be quite good for Europe during the summer peak season.
What's more, being so close to Central Station means you won't have to lug your suitcase far, and it offers excellent accessibility for day trips to other German towns.

Inside Hofbräuhaus
The Old Town, Marienplatz, and Hofbräuhaus are all easily reachable on foot too! 👍🏻

If you're looking for a hotel near Munich Central Station,
or a comfortable and quiet space for two,
I once had a terrible experience in a 16-person mixed dormitory during my first Munich trip, realizing it was definitely not for me.
For those seeking a private space at a reasonable price, Wombat's City Hostel Munich is an excellent choice!
