Venture beyond Bangkok to Chachoengsao and discover the mystical Wat Phuttha Prommayan, known as the Mirror Temple. Prepare for dazzling beauty and a truly authentic Thai experience in 2026!
While Bangkok boasts its own array of magnificent temples,
the areas just outside the city are home to an abundance of truly unique and fascinating sacred sites.
Among these, the incredible Mirror Temple, Wat Phuttha Prommayan, located in Chachoengsao, was a personal must-see for me.
Let's dive into the details of this captivating destination!

1. Mirror Temple Location & Getting There
Rental Car or Private Day Tour Recommended
Wat Phuttha Prommayan, the enchanting Mirror Temple in Chachoengsao,
is situated approximately 70 miles (a 2-hour drive) from Bangkok.

99 Tambon Bang Talat, Amphoe Khlong Khuean, Chang Wat Chachoengsao 24110 Thailand
Unlike more popular Bangkok day trip destinations like Pattaya or Hua Hin,
Chachoengsao is less known and can be challenging to reach via standard public transportation.

Even if you manage to get to Chachoengsao, ride-sharing services like Grab or local public transport generally don't go all the way to the Mirror Temple.
Therefore, to visit this unique site, you'll definitely need to arrange a rental car or a private taxi.

Driving from Bangkok can be a bit tricky, especially since Thailand drives on the right-hand side.
Unless you're accustomed to right-hand drive, I highly recommend opting for a private taxi rental, even if it's a bit pricier.

Good news: Chachoengsao offers several other interesting attractions beyond the Mirror Temple.
I suggest choosing a taxi rental for a Bangkok day trip and booking for at least 8 hours (personally, I found 10 hours barely enough! 🙀).

2. Mirror Temple Admission & Fees
Free Entry, Just Pay for the Boat Ride
It's important to note that Chachoengsao's Mirror Temple is located on an island, so you'll need to take a boat to reach it.
The round-trip boat fare is ~$1 per person, which you can consider your 'admission fee.'

Given the temple's reflective surfaces and to prevent both foot burns and floor damage, wearing socks is mandatory.
If you forget yours, you can purchase a pair on-site for ~$1.
The island isn't far, so the boat ride to the Mirror Temple only takes about 5 minutes.
Despite its somewhat remote location from Bangkok, there's a steady stream of visitors, so you usually won't experience long waits for the boat.

3. My Visit to the Mirror Temple
The Most Memorable Spot from My Month-Long Trip to Thailand
I arrived at the Mirror Temple with little information beyond its name, and I was absolutely blown away by its splendor.
It was far more magnificent than I could have imagined!

True to its name, the temple's exterior shimmers and shines, and the interior is equally dazzling.
As with many Thai temples, you'll also find a lavish golden Buddha statue inside.

The island itself is surprisingly large, and it appeared that some areas on the outer edges were still under construction during my visit.
One minor drawback: it gets incredibly hot!
The light reflecting off the mirrored surfaces makes it feel even warmer, almost as if the sun's rays are coming from every direction. Even an umbrella offers little relief 😓.
However, there's a café on the second floor of the building right in front of the pier, offering a welcome spot to relax and cool down.

Of all the temples I've visited in Thailand, this one was undoubtedly the most visually spectacular.
If you have extra time during your Bangkok trip, I highly recommend making the journey to Chachoengsao to see it. If this temple were in Bangkok itself, it would be absolutely swarming with people!

Don't risk getting lost in the rural backroads of Chachoengsao just to save a few dollars.
For a stress-free visit to the Mirror Temple, a rental car or private taxi is definitely the way to go!
