I decided to tick off one item from my bucket list.
And that was an overseas trip with just my mom!
Turkey, Taiwan, Fukuoka, Sapporo,
Singapore, Chiang Mai... I had so many candidates,
but I ultimately decided on Bangkok,
a city where I'd once had the experience of living for a month.
Samala Bangkok, where I stayed back then,
I'm excited to share my honest, 'paid-for-with-my-own-money' review of it!

Why I Chose Trip.com for My Samala Bangkok Booking
The flights alone were ~$242 per person,
which was already a significant expense,
so I wanted to book our accommodation as reasonably as possible.
I compared Yeogi Eottae, Trip.com, and Agoda
side-by-side for the same dates,
and Trip.com turned out to be the cheapest!
Ultimately, I secured our 4-night stay for ~$297,
which worked out to just over ~$69 per night.
However, I noticed that the cheapest booking site
varies depending on the dates!

Nailing Down Our Bangkok Hotel for Mom and Me, Thanks to a Friend's Recommendation
Before deciding on our accommodation,
I reached out to a friend who had just returned to Korea after living between Vietnam and Thailand for about two years,
to get the latest updates on Bangkok.
She told me that if we planned to go on various tours with my mom,
the Asok (ASOK) area would be convenient for taxi travel.
And if the view or facilities were a priority,
there were many new hotels near Chatrium Riverside by the river.
Since we had already spent a good amount on flights,
and neither my mom nor I are big fans of swimming,
we were looking for a place that was clean, inviting, and
It took an entire day just comparing the prices and reviews
of a few shortlisted hotels,
and what I discovered after all that searching was
It's a brand-new hotel that opened its doors in 2023,
located between Asok and Nana stations,
and near Terminal 21 shopping mall,
making it the perfect spot for exploring.

It's about a 10-minute walk to Asok BTS station,
so you can take a taxi or walk,
and it's not too far either way.
Asok vs. Riverside: Here's How We Made Our Choice
Near the riverside Chatrium Riverside,
the new hotels offer great views,
but their prices were definitely higher.
For travelers like us, who prioritize convenience and mobility
over river views and focus more on price,
the Asok area was a much more reasonable choice.
At the same price point, we figured it was better to stay in a newer hotel with great facilities
and enjoy a spacious room.

When we checked in and stepped into the lobby,
the first thing that caught our eye was
the clean and stylish interior.
As expected from a place that opened in 2023,
there wasn't a single worn-out corner,
and the entire hotel was well-maintained.
Samala Bangkok: Premier Twin Room and Rooftop Pool Adventures
Check-in is from 2 PM,
and check-out is until 12 PM (noon).
The hotel operates a total of 222 rooms,
ranging from Superior and Deluxe to Premier Twin rooms,
divided by category.
We opted for the most spacious option among them,
the Premier Twin Room.
Two beds were comfortably placed,
and the minibar and complimentary bottled water were refilled daily,
so we never had to go out to buy water.
The room itself was spacious,
so even with two suitcases open,
Getting around was a breeze.
With an infinity pool gracing the rooftop,
even though I'm not typically one to spend hours swimming,
we made sure to head back to the hotel for a day
and splashed around, making the most of the pool fun!
The breakfast here is legendary, famed in countless reviews,
so naturally, my expectations were sky-high for its deliciousness.
And let me tell you, it didn't disappoint! The menu selection was truly incredible,
so diverse and absolutely packed with delicious options.

What truly elevated our stay was Samala Hotel's thoughtful inclusions.
They offer a fantastic fitness center, complimentary Wi-Fi,
and even a super convenient shuttle service, all included!
And trust me, if you time it right, that shuttle service can be a real lifesaver!
It was surprisingly useful for getting around.

Samala Bangkok Review: My 4-Night Adventure with Mom
This trip marked our very first international adventure, just my mom and me,
and choosing Samala Bangkok was truly one of the best decisions we made!
However, I did encounter one tiny hiccup that was a bit of a bummer.
When I booked the room, I was under the impression it came with a bathtub,
and I even packed a bunch of bath bombs, ready for some relaxation!
But upon arrival, to my surprise,
our room featured a shower booth only,
without the bathtub I'd hoped for.
It was a slight letdown not being able to use the bath bombs I packed,
and that was a small disappointment.
Beyond that minor point, the room itself was wonderfully spacious and impeccably clean.
Having a table was a huge bonus, perfect for enjoying breakfast, late-night snacks, or fresh fruit with my mom!
The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful,
making our entire 4-night stay truly delightful.
Seeing my mom enjoy it so much,
I kept thinking how glad I was to have picked this place
throughout our entire adventure.

I booked the Samala Bangkok Premier Twin Room for 4 nights at ~$297 (around ~$69 per night). Trip.com offered the cheapest price at the time of booking, but as of October 8th, Agoda was the cheapest at ~$67.
Samala Bangkok is located approximately a 10-minute walk from Asok BTS Station. The hotel is situated between Asok and Nana Stations, and its proximity to Terminal 21 Shopping Mall makes it convenient for tours.
I stayed in the most spacious Premier Twin Room, which was large enough to comfortably accommodate two beds and allowed for two suitcases to be opened without obstructing movement. However, I was disappointed that there was only a shower booth instead of a bathtub, which meant I couldn't use bath bombs.
Samala Bangkok guests can enjoy complimentary access to the rooftop infinity pool and fitness facilities. Additionally, free Wi-Fi and shuttle service are provided as standard.
