Discover La Dotta, a casual Italian gem near Bangkok's Sala Daeng BTS. Their weekday lunch set offers excellent value, featuring robust pasta and exquisite tomato sauces. Perfect for travelers craving high-quality Italian fare.
After spending some time exploring the vibrant streets of Bangkok, there often comes a day when your palate yearns for a taste of comforting Western cuisine.
My younger brother, who recently couldn't stop talking about a fantastic wood-fired pizza he had in Ratchaburi, suggested we seek out an Italian restaurant in Bangkok.
He's quite the foodie and has a knack for finding great spots, so I trusted his judgment. That's how we ended up at La Dotta.
This place is frequently mentioned as a top spot for pasta in Bangkok, and I was definitely intrigued.
To get straight to the point: it wasn't just a one-and-done visit. We loved it so much, we found ourselves going back for a second time!
The restaurant itself isn't huge, but it's not overly formal either, creating a comfortable and unpretentious atmosphere perfect for a relaxed meal. Since we visited during a weekday lunch, we had no trouble getting a table.
At first glance, the prices appear quite appealing. However, do keep in mind that a 10% service charge and 7% VAT are added to your bill, which will slightly increase the final cost.
On our visits, one bill came to approximately 1,600 THB (with a 200 THB supplement for truffle pasta), and the other was around 1,800 THB.
While it's not the cheapest meal you'll find in Bangkok, for this level of quality, we felt it was definitely worth the price.
🍝 First Visit – Smart Lunch Set
For appetizers, we chose the roasted eggplant and lamb meatballs. The eggplant, perfectly cooked, blended beautifully with the rich tomato sauce, offering a light and satisfying start to the meal.
Honestly, it was among the most delicious eggplant dishes I've ever had.
The lamb meatballs had a distinct, robust flavor. If you're not particularly fond of lamb, you might find another appetizer more to your liking.
For our pasta, we tried the amatriciana with bucatini. The noodles were wonderfully thick, almost like a hearty udon, providing a delightful al dente bite that really stood out.
From the eggplant to the pasta, it's clear this restaurant truly masters its tomato sauces.
We also indulged in the truffle spaghetti, adding a 200 THB supplement. While not revolutionary, its classic truffle aroma and rich cream sauce made it a perfectly enjoyable and comforting dish.
🍽 Second Visit – A La Carte Menu
On our second visit, which was on a weekend, we opted for the à la carte menu. The traditional Carbonara, prepared without cream, was wonderfully savory and clean, with an impeccable overall balance.
The Pici with pork ragu featured fresh pasta, which gave it a much chewier and more satisfying texture than dried pasta. It felt like a thicker, handmade noodle, making it a universally appealing choice.
Instead of flashy, trendy flavors, La Dotta focuses on mastering the fundamentals. Perhaps that's why it's not just a place you visit once; it's the kind of restaurant that lingers in your memory and draws you back.
Desserts and Coffee
The Toffee dates cake, part of the 3-course lunch, was quite sweet, making it an ideal companion for a strong espresso.
I was very pleased with the coffee. And the Tiramisu we had on our second visit struck a perfect balance of sweetness, providing a delightful and light conclusion to our meal.

🚗 Parking Tips
If you're driving, the Dusit Central Park parking lot is far more convenient than the Silom Complex.
It's a more modern and pleasant facility, and the parking fees are quite reasonable.
La Dotta is about a 10-minute walk from Dusit Central Park.
Who Will Love This Spot!
- Travelers craving delicious, authentic Italian food in Bangkok.
- Dedicated pasta lovers.
- Those looking for a reasonably priced, high-quality meal through the lunch set.
On the other hand, if you're expecting truly budget-friendly, local Thai prices, you might find it a bit on the expensive side.
📝 A Quick Summary
It's fair to say that the prices aren't dirt cheap.
However, the exquisite texture of the bucatini and the sheer perfection of their tomato sauce are truly unforgettable.
While I haven't had the pleasure of visiting Italy yet, this is, without a doubt, the most satisfying pasta I've ever experienced.
