VIRIATO: The Perfect Bar to Catch a Football Match

When you think of Spain, football is absolutely essential, right?

While watching a match live at the stadium is the ultimate dream,

if you can't grab tickets,

gathering with locals at a lively sports pub is the next best thing!

I did a ton of research to find the perfect sports pub in Seville,

and after checking out a few spots, I finally found one I loved.

I was so satisfied with the vibes, food, and drinks that I just had to share it with you.

So, without further ado, let's dive into today's Seville hot spot!

1. Seville's Top Sports Pub: VIRIATO

The sports pub VIRIATO Guevara & Lynch is located just slightly north of central Seville.

It's nestled a bit further up from the Metropol Parasol, meaning it sits in a slightly less tourist-heavy area.

However, the pub itself was absolutely packed to the brim!

That's because today was the day of El Gran Derbi—the massive La Liga clash between Seville's fierce local rivals, Real Betis and Sevilla FC.

Honestly, since this was the only La Liga match day during my trip, I briefly considered going to the stadium. But because it’s such an intense local derby (known for its wild atmosphere and sometimes classified as a high-risk match), ticket prices were sky-high.

During our Ronda night tour the day before, I asked our tour guide about it, and they advised against going to the stadium. Instead, they shared some great sports pub recommendations, and this was one of the spots on their list!

To be fair, Spain isn't traditionally known for having a massive sports pub culture like the UK.

Since getting La Liga tickets is generally easier compared to the Premier League (EPL), local fans usually prefer heading straight to the stadium rather than gathering at a pub to cheer.

But for a massive derby like this one (just like El Clásico between Real Madrid and Barcelona), tickets are notoriously hard to get and super expensive. That's why everyone flocks to the few sports pubs in town!

2. Inside the Pub & The Menu

When you arrive, you'll spot a sign at the entrance asking you to (please) wait to be seated.

If you wait patiently, the staff will guide you to a spot. Since the pub gets incredibly crowded and cozy, barging in blindly would be chaotic—hence the wait-to-be-seated policy.

I guess quite a few eager souls have tried to skip the line before, haha! 😆

My husband and I were guided to the bar seats.

The match was scheduled for 9 PM, and we got there a little after 7:30 PM. Even then, we barely managed to snag the last remaining bar stools!

If there's a major game you want to watch, definitely don't show up right at kickoff. You'll want to arrive much earlier to secure a spot, grab some food, and enjoy a few pre-game beers.

Above the bar, you can see the extensive beer menu, and there’s a small TV screen right in front of us.

But don't worry, that's not the only screen in the house!

First things first: we ordered our beers and gave the menu a thorough read. The text was a bit dense, but we powered through!

With so many draft beer taps to choose from, we had a deliciously hard time deciding. Here are the two we finally went with!

Even if you aren't here for the football, beer lovers will absolutely lose their minds in this place. It's a craft beer paradise!

For food, we decided to order a rice dish and a burger. Oh my goodness, the rice dish was incredibly flavorful!

And the burger had that perfect, juicy, gourmet craft-burger taste.

The names are quite a mouthful! The rice dish is called Arroz meloso con Ragu de Toro y Langostinos Crugientes (creamy rice with bull's tail ragu and crispy prawns).

As for the burgers, they have tons of options, so just scan the ingredients and choose the one that speaks to your soul.

Here are the screens visible from our bar seats. There are three screens in total.

One was directly in front of us, and two were slightly to the right. The one on the far right was the largest, so we found ourselves staring at that one most of the night (when we weren't stuffing our faces!).

Usually, they show different sports on different screens, but since this was the ultimate local derby, every single screen was tuned to the same match. Haha! ⚽

Because it was El Gran Derbi, supporters clad in both teams' jerseys kept pouring in. I was initially a bit nervous that a fight might break out, but everyone was incredibly friendly. Watching the locals react with pure, raw passion was honestly just as entertaining as watching the match itself!

For Spaniards, football isn't just a sport—it's a way of life.

Of course, we had to order some more beer and snacks!

Crispy chicken tenders. My husband insisted on ordering these, but they tasted just like your average chicken tenders. (I told him we shouldn't have... 🙄)

I ended up heading back to our place after watching the first half.

Can you see how packed it was? There were quite a few people just standing around, enjoying their beers.

3. A Recommended Bar in Seville

To be honest, since you'll mostly be hopping around tapas bars in Spain, you wouldn't typically have much reason to visit a sports pub like this.

Personally, I would also recommend spots where you can fully immerse yourself in local Spanish cuisine.

That being said, if you've had your fill of Spanish food or just want to catch a match with a great, cold pint of beer, I highly recommend checking this place out.

*Even back at the hotel lobby, everyone was glued to the football match!
