Once you arrive, you might find yourself struggling to read menus or getting confused by the Vietnamese Dong currency.

It's also common to miss out on discounts, even for a simple massage. That's why today, I'm going to share a curated list of truly essential apps for your Vietnam adventure.

These are my personal reviews of essential Vietnam travel apps, based on my own experiences (as of October 2026).

The essential apps for your Vietnam trip include 8 apps that help with taxis, currency exchange, translation, discounts, and even theme park enjoyment. Highly recommended for first-time independent travelers to Vietnam.

It's a breeze – just install the apps and register your cards in advance from your home country!

1. 8 Essential Vietnam Travel Apps to Install Before You Depart

All these apps require data to work seamlessly.

If you can't hail a Grab at the airport, your first day's plans could easily get delayed.

So, make sure to install your eSIM before you depart!

2. Grab vs. inDrive: Which Vietnam Taxi App is Better for You?

✔️ Grab

Fare: Fixed in the app

Payment: Card or cash options available

Language: Korean language support available

✔️ inDrive

Fare: Negotiate with the driver via the app

Payment: Cash only

Language: No Korean support, English only

With Grab, fares are set in advance, so you don't have to worry about being overcharged.

Make sure to register your card in advance from your home country.

✔️ If you're a group of 5 or more, choose a 6-seater car. A 4-seater might result in your ride being canceled.

✔️ Always check for promotional coupons at the bottom of the payment screen.

💖 I highly recommend registering your card on Grab from your home country before you arrive!

While inDrive can be cheaper, it only accepts cash and doesn't support Korean.

✅ If you have a lot of luggage on your first day, Grab is great; if you want to save money, inDrive is the way to go.

If your travel distance is more than 20 minutes, then

I highly recommend comparing prices with inDrive.

In fact, when I traveled from Cam Ranh International Airport in Nha Trang to Nha Trang city center, it was around 300,000 VND with Grab, and around 120,000 VND with inDrive.

The price difference was quite significant!

🚨 Here's a Pro Travel Tip!

Don't just look at the last digits of the car number; always verify the entire license plate.

You could accidentally get into the wrong driver's car.

3. Vietnam Currency Exchange: Travel Wallet & Translation App Recommendations

Travel Wallet allows you to load Vietnamese Dong (VND) via the app, then use the card for payments or withdraw cash from ATMs.

Register it with Grab, and you can pay for taxis instantly.

✔️ VPBank and TPBank ATMs are known to offer free withdrawals.

⚠️ Always check the exchange rate before loading funds.

I personally used my Travel Wallet card and

had the experience of withdrawing cash from a TPBank ATM.

This bank has many ATMs not just near the airport, but also throughout the city,

so you can easily find one by searching for ATMs on Google Maps before you visit.

For menus, just upload a photo to ChatGPT, and it translates items by category for you.

Its accuracy is superior to Papago's.

For exchange rates, if you have an iPhone, the built-in calculator is enough,

and if you have a Galaxy, a convenient calculator app will do the trick.

4. Vietnam Massage Discount Apps: Traveler & BaedalK

The Peaktime Traveler app is a free app that compiles fantastic discounts for Vietnamese restaurants and relaxing massages.

Just find participating stores nearby, and show the in-app mobile card when you pay to get your discount.

The biggest advantage is that anyone can use it without needing to upgrade their membership or sign up, making it super accessible.

⚠️ Benefits vary by store. Be sure to check the discount rate before you visit.

Additionally, it's integrated with the GLN app,

so you can **pay without needing a separate Purple GLN app**!

You can get discounts at famous Nhatrang and Danang restaurants like Moc Restaurant,

as well as popular spots like Cong Caphe.

For food delivery, many people also use Grab.

But if you're craving Korean food, try **BaedalK**, which lets you search in Korean!

It's an app created by a Korean owner, so the translations are excellent,

and it offers a wide variety of Korean dishes.

By the way, I was also able to get Moc Restaurant delivered via BaedalK!

Plus, pharmacies are registered, so even the popular **Colgate Heart Toothpaste, which many travelers buy, was available for delivery**!

5. Is the VinWonders App Essential?

If you're heading to VinWonders in Nha Trang or Phu Quoc, make sure to download this app.

The official app allows you to view the **map and show schedules**, and even check wait times for rides.

However, VinWonders admission tickets are often cheaper when booked in advance.

While the cheapest sites for VinWonders tickets vary by city,

the following three places generally offered good deals.
