I often find myself on culinary trips to Vietnam,
and this time, it was just my mom and me,
savoring a truly immersive trip through Nha Trang city.
Having explored countless amazing Vietnamese eateries before,
I finally got to visit Quan Oc Ngon, a Nha Trang seafood spot
that's renowned for its incredible value and a lively outdoor pub atmosphere,
perfect for enjoying a drink and a late-night snack.
This Nha Trang restaurant, highly recommended for its excellent value seafood dishes and
the chance to savor delicious lobster,
I'll delve into its location, menu,
and of course, the taste!
1. Location of Quan Oc Ngon, a Must-Visit Eatery in Nha Trang, Vietnam
While there are many clean, large seafood restaurants downtown,
some have prices not much different from Korea,
which can be a bit much to visit daily during a long culinary trip with my mom.
Especially for lobster, places with air conditioning often have a significant price difference
compared to these local eateries. So, my goal was to enjoy an affordable lobster dinner on a cool evening.

Nha Trang's rainy season is relatively short, usually from September to December.
Since it was a family trip during the dry season, we had hardly any rain,
making it perfect for a leisurely evening stroll from our downtown accommodation.
It's conveniently located behind the Regalia Gold Hotel,
so we could easily walk there
in just 3-4 minutes.
With many great value hotels in the city center within walking distance of Quan Oc Ngon,
it’s definitely worth a slow walk on a cool evening.
Also, on the way, you'll find Cong Cafe and
the recently very popular
Greek Souvlaki shop,
making it a great spot to visit for a late-night snack.
Next to the dining area, there's a separate building
dedicated to managing seafood.
I heard there's usually a wait during dinner hours, so
I decided to visit a little after the peak dinner rush.
Luckily, there was just one table left on the first floor!
The second floor seemed more spacious,
but I personally preferred the vibe on the first floor.
However, the tables closer to the street had a strong cigarette smoke smell from local patrons,
so as soon as an inner table became available,
I asked to move.
You'll find the quintessential Southeast Asian local restaurant setup:
low plastic stools and small tables lined up.
My mom even found it quite fun!
When I visited, it was packed only with locals.
There's no air conditioning, but large fans are working hard
on the ceiling and throughout the restaurant.
It's not the cleanest place, so you might need to 'blur' your vision a bit.
But they say a truly authentic Vietnamese local eatery
is characterized by tissues scattered on the floor – a sign of a bustling, real spot!
So, you just have to embrace and enjoy this vibrant atmosphere.
2. Quan Oc Ngan Menu
As a seafood restaurant popular among Koreans in Nha Trang,
they immediately provided us with a separate menu
that included Korean translations and photos as soon as we sat down.
Since we came for a late-night snack, our main goal was
lobster! We also ordered a few other dishes we were curious about,
along with some beer.

For the lobster, they asked us to choose between a small or a large one.
We asked to see a medium-sized one at our table,
and they brought it right over to show us.
They didn't weigh it separately in front of us, so it was more of a trust-based system.
They told us it was a 500g lobster
and cost 750,000 VND.
That's about ~$30.
People traveling solo often order a bigger one, even getting a whole lobster for around ~$21 to ~$28.
Compared to a fancy restaurant, the lobster here is quite budget-friendly.
However, Quan Oc Ngan also has a fantastic variety of snack and side dishes.
If you skip the lobster and focus on these diverse seafood and appetizer options,
you can enjoy an even more incredible value!
Shrimp, conch, snails, clams, cockles,
whelk, grilled beef, grilled frog, crab,
oysters, scallops, ark shells,
and grilled pork ribs are just some of the appetizer-style dishes.
They also have delicious stir-fried instant noodles, perfect for a light meal,
which are incredibly popular for their great taste and affordable price, around ~$1 to ~$2 per bowl.
3. The Taste of This Value-for-Money Nha Trang Eatery
Knowing it was a budget-friendly local Vietnamese spot,
I knew the prices would be good, but I didn't have high expectations for the taste...
First, the moment we tasted the lobster we ordered, half cheese and half garlic butter,
my mom and I let out a cheer.
Personally, I've always felt that Vietnamese shrimp
were just as delicious as lobster but offered better value for money,
so I hadn't really eaten high-priced lobster much before.
But enjoying fresh lobster after a long time
made me incredibly happy!
The meat was plump, bouncy, and sweet,
and as my mom and I each scooped up a generous portion of the half-lobster's full, succulent meat
and popped it into our mouths,
I thought, 'This is what living is all about!'
The accompanying sauce also paired perfectly
with the fresh lobster meat.
From the water spinach and razor clams, everything was so incredibly delicious
that my mom and I couldn't stop exclaiming over it.
The crunchy water spinach with the perfectly seasoned nuoc mam sauce, and the chewy razor clams were all excellent.
With a rich umami flavor that lingered on the palate,
it was moderately spicy without any fishiness,
making it absolutely perfect as a snack with drinks.
Many people recommended that you absolutely must order this at Quán Ốc Ngon, a local Vietnamese eatery:
it was the stir-fried scallion corn.
This snack, costing less than ~$1 per bowl, was so incredibly delicious
that once you took a spoonful, you simply couldn't stop.
The subtle aroma of scallion oil and butter was delightful,
and with its perfect balance of sweet and salty, it was a flavor anyone could comfortably enjoy.
The texture, where the kernels popped delightfully in your mouth,
made this an artistic and unique dish for drinks.
And to perfectly cleanse the palate after all that richness,
the refreshing Saigon Lager was also incredibly delicious.
Since I'm a bit of a lightweight and can't drink much,
my mom and I only planned to order one can of beer to share.
But when I asked the staff, they recommended Saigon Lager,
saying it was clean and tasty.
3. The Flavor of a Value-for-Money Vietnamese Restaurant in Nha Trang
While traveling independently with my parents,
we sometimes visit grand, spotless, air-conditioned restaurants during the sweltering dry season summer,
but the evening snack time spent with my mom, enjoying the fresh breeze while sitting on plastic chairs,
was also a memorable moment.
Of course, for those sensitive to hygiene,
this might be a place you'd hesitate to visit.
However, located in the city center with great accessibility, and offering a variety of dishes at affordable prices,
it was a fantastic seafood spot in Nha Trang.
Especially if you're looking to casually grab a drink with friends
on a Nha Trang evening,
this is a great place to visit.
It's also a wonderful spot to make memories with family, like I did,
offering delicious food and a unique atmosphere.
I highly recommend this Nha Trang eatery.
Quan Oc Ngan is conveniently located in the heart of Nha Trang city center. It's behind the Regalia Gold Hotel, making it an easy 3-4 minute walk.
Quan Oc Ngan operates from 10 AM to 11 PM. There might be a waiting line during peak dinner hours, so it's advisable to visit slightly before or after to avoid the crowd.
