Day Trip from Paris
How to Get to the Palace of Versailles & Tour Guide

You can't really talk about Paris
without mentioning Louis XIV and Marie Antoinette.
Once you dive even a little into French history,
this place naturally climbs to the top of your bucket list:
the ultimate Paris day trip, the Palace of Versailles!
📍 Palace of Versailles
Place d'Armes, 78000 Versailles, France

After learning about the fascinating history of Louis XIV and Marie Antoinette,
I knew I absolutely had to visit this place.
✅ On my trip to Paris, I used a self-guided audio tour
✅ and explored the palace completely at my own pace!
Let me share my detailed experience and tips with you! :)

▪️Palace: 9:00 AM - 5:30 PM (Closed Mondays)
▪️Estate of Trianon: 12:00 PM - 5:30 PM (Closed Mondays)
▪️Gardens & Park: 8:00 AM - 6:00 PM (Open Daily)
1. How to Get to the Palace of Versailles from Paris

To get to the Palace of Versailles,
simply take the RER C train and get off at
Versailles - Château - Rive Gauche
station.
I boarded at Pont de l'Alma station, and it took about 40 minutes.
Since it takes less than an hour, it's the perfect day trip
from Paris!

After you get off, a quick 10-minute walk
will lead you to the breathtakingly grand and golden
Palace of Versailles. You absolutely can't miss it!
2. Palace of Versailles Admission Fees

The ticket prices for Versailles
vary depending on the package, as well as
whether you visit during peak or off-peak season.
Peak Season (Mar 29 – Oct 31) | Off-Peak Season (Nov 1 – Mar 28)
Palace + Gardens + Trianon | €32 | €24 |
Palace of Versailles | € 21
Estate of Trianon | € 12 | |
Versailles Gardens | € 10 |
If you have the Paris Museum Pass,
✔️ Palace of Versailles
✔️ Estate of Trianon
are included for free!
However, even with the Museum Pass, you still need to
reserve your entry time slot in advance. Don't forget! :)

Keep in mind that even with the Museum Pass,
you may need to pay an extra fee to enter the gardens
on certain days (like musical garden show days).
▼ Check out how to book your tickets below ▼

If you bought your tickets online in advance,
make sure to head straight to Line A at the main entrance! *.*
3. Touring the Palace of Versailles

The Palace of Versailles is massive and holds so much
historical significance. I highly recommend taking a tour
to truly appreciate and understand its beauty.

Since guided tour schedules didn't work for me, and I wanted the flexibility
to explore at my own pace,
I decided to go with a self-guided audio tour app! *.*
A quick heads-up when using Tourlive:
⚠️⚠️
Make sure to download the tour using your accommodation's Wi-Fi beforehand!
Mobile data speeds abroad can be quite different from what you're used to,
and trying to download the tour at Versailles is virtually impossible.

From interesting backstories to listen to on your way,
all the way to the Palace of Versailles, the Trianon, and the Queen's Hamlet—

Here is a pro tip for choosing your tour:
▪️ Versailles Palace Tour: ~$19
▪️ Gardens + Queen's Hamlet Tour: ~$22
= ~$41
Buying these two Versailles tours separately would cost ~$41,
but the Paris All-Pass is just ~$38!

If you grab the Paris All-Pass,
it brings the price down from ~$41 to ~$38,
giving you access to all the tours in Paris. In terms of both value
and convenience, it's a total win!

For this painting,
if I had just passed by, I probably would have thought 'Oh, just another queen' and moved on.
But having the audio guide break down the painting's meaning
and explain the historical context made it so much easier to connect with.

Not just the main Palace of Versailles, but also the Trianon palaces—
fully checked off with my audio tour! *,,

The Grand Trianon was built as an escape from the grueling
24/7 public life of the main court, allowing the royal family to enjoy
some cozy, private moments together.
So, it definitely feels a bit more intimate and understated compared to Versailles...?

In fact, the Grand Trianon is said to have been a personal favorite of Louis XIV! @-@
They say while Versailles was built for the state,
the Grand Trianon was truly built for himself—which is why he spent so much of his private time here.

The Petit Trianon, famous for the Queen's Hamlet.
It honestly makes you wonder,
"Is this really part of the same Versailles estate?" *,*

They say the kind of married life Marie Antoinette truly yearned for
lay right here in the Queen's Hamlet
inside the Petit Trianon.
In just half a day, you can explore the palace, the gardens, and the Queen's Hamlet.
It really is the ultimate day trip from Paris
to fully immerse yourself in every single corner.

Touring just the palace takes about 2 hours,
but you absolutely cannot skip the gorgeous Gardens of Versailles!
So, budget at least 4 hours in total to take your time and enjoy. *,*

Since it's a place steeped in history, take a self-guided audio tour
to dive even deeper into the fascinating stories of Versailles! :)
