I've visited Venice, Italy three times now,
but every time I step off the water bus, it feels like a brand new city.
If you stick to the main paths toward the Rialto Bridge and St. Mark's Square,
it's incredibly easy to get lost in the maze of alleys—even Google Maps gets confused here!

But by my third trip, I finally found my rhythm,
and getting lost actually helped me stumble upon some incredible hidden gems.
While the sunset view from the Rialto Bridge is undeniably beautiful,
the sunset spot from the Accademia Bridge was a completely refreshing discovery.

Let me share my refined Venice walking itinerary and
the absolute best sunset spots I've found after three visits to this magical island.

My Favorite Venice Walking Itinerary

In Venice, you'll occasionally hop on a water bus to visit other islands,
but you'll mostly be exploring this city on foot.
Ditching the map and wandering through the alleys
is often the best way to find authentic local spots.

St. Mark's Square & Basilica Rialto Bridge San Giorgio Maggiore The Jewish Ghetto Accademia Bridge |

During my first trip to Venice, St. Mark's Square (Piazza San Marco)
literally took my breath away the moment I stepped into it!
The square itself is a masterpiece, but I highly recommend going inside
St. Mark's Basilica to witness its incredible, golden grandeur.

The Rialto Bridge is a world-famous landmark that draws travelers from everywhere,
and it's widely known as one of the best sunset spots in Venice.
The view of the Grand Canal from the top is undeniably stunning!

San Giorgio Maggiore is a separate island you can easily reach
by taking a vaporetto from the main island.
Climbing its bell tower gives you an unparalleled panoramic view of Venice.
It's an absolute must-add to your 2026 Venice itinerary.

Did you know the word "ghetto" actually originated right here in Venice in 1516?
This is the world's oldest Jewish quarter.
It's quiet, peaceful, and one of Venice's best-kept historical secrets.
Rialto Bridge vs. Accademia Bridge: The Sunset Showdown

Here is an unfiltered, unedited shot of the sunset
I took while walking away from the Rialto Bridge.
While the Rialto Bridge is the iconic symbol of a Venice trip,
the reality is that it gets overwhelmingly crowded.

Instead, I highly recommend heading to the Accademia Bridge (Ponte dell'Accademia)
as part of your Venice walking itinerary.
This is my ultimate sunset spot found after three trips to Italy.
Arrive a bit before golden hour, grab a spot, and watch the sun dip below the Grand Canal.
Short on Time? Book a Local Day Tour

Honestly, I missed out on so much during my first trip to Venice
because there's just so much ground to cover.
The alleys are complex, and every single bridge or church
holds centuries of history. You truly see as much as you know.

Especially if you're on your honeymoon or it's your first time in Italy,
booking a private tour with a local guide is incredibly valuable.
I found a tour that perfectly mirrors the itinerary I just shared,
including the lesser-known Jewish Ghetto that most tourists miss.

You can customize it to include the Jewish Ghetto, Rialto Bridge, St. Mark's Square, and Accademia Bridge,
with options for a walking tour or a water taxi ride.
They offer morning, afternoon, and full-day options,
making it super flexible for travelers short on time.

I personally recommend booking an afternoon slot so you can end your tour right at sunset!

Venice will always be a magical,
almost surreal fairytale city to me.
I hope this Venice walking itinerary and my favorite
sunset spots help you plan an unforgettable trip.
