Value Mart Oura Tsushima: Your 2026 Duty-Free Shopping Guide
Discover Value Mart Oura in Tsushima for your 2026 shopping spree! Find duty-free deals on Japanese snacks, liquor, and fresh foods, plus essential tips.

Hey there, fellow shopping enthusiasts! It's Miyalog, and I'm back with another travel adventure, this time from Tsushima, Japan. 🍀
Despite having thoroughly 'raided' an Aeon Mall back in May, I somehow found myself hitting up two more supermarkets on Tsushima Island. What can I say? The allure of Japanese groceries is just too strong!
Following up on my previous review of MaxValu Izuhara, today I'm bringing you the lowdown on the most popular supermarket in Hitakatsu: Value Mart Oura! If you're planning a shopping trip to Tsushima in 2026, this review is for you!
Value Mart Oura Details:
Opening Hours: 9:00 AM - 9:00 PM
Duty-Free Service Closes: 5:00 PM
Parking: Free
Location & Accessibility

Value Mart Oura is one of the biggest supermarkets on Tsushima Island, and it's super easy to get to.
It's conveniently located with a Matsumoto Kiyoshi drugstore and a 100-yen shop right next door, so you can tackle all your shopping needs in one go.
From Hitakatsu Port, it's just about a 5-minute drive if you're using a rental car.
Store Size & Selection

Having visited the MaxValu store in Izuhara, I can tell you there's a noticeable difference in size here.
Value Mart Oura felt bigger and offered a wider selection of goods compared to MaxValu.
Sushi & Sashimi Corner

Unlike MaxValu the day before, Value Mart Oura boasted a fantastic variety of sushi and sashimi. It was a feast for the eyes!
Pro Tip: If you're buying sushi or sashimi, remember that wasabi is often not included, so grab some separately if you like that kick!
Bentoboxes & Fried Foods

There was also a great selection of bentoboxes, karaage (fried chicken), okonomiyaki, and other easy-to-eat meals perfect for enjoying back at your accommodation.
Compared to MaxValu Izuhara, Value Mart Oura seemed to have a more diverse range of bentobox options too.
Beer & Liquor Section

As a beer lover, I always opt for supermarkets over convenience stores for better prices, especially when buying in bulk for duty-free savings.
While they didn't have the newest craft beer releases I was hoping for, they stocked all the popular Japanese beer brands.

You'll also find a good selection of Japanese shochu. However, for liquor variety and pricing, MaxValu actually had a slightly better selection and was a bit more affordable.

Then there's natto, a polarizing food! I personally love natto and eat it often, but it's always so much more expensive back home in the US compared to Japan.

They also have a decent selection of cup noodles and packaged ramen. I don't usually buy ramen anymore since I travel frequently, but I once bought 'Umakachan Ramen' based on a local's recommendation. It tasted surprisingly similar to a popular Korean beef bone soup ramen!
Perhaps ramen is just best enjoyed fresh in Japan!

As an udon fan, this time I tried buying fresh udon noodles to cook at home. While it didn't quite capture the authentic taste of eating udon in Japan, it was still pretty good!
I'll keep experimenting with fresh udon and share my favorite recipes and recommendations in a future post!

There's also a colorful array of jellies. To all my fellow travelers in their 20s, enjoy all the jelly you can get! 🥲

For chocolates, you'll find popular brands like Bourbon, GABA, Meiji, and Macadamia. Since many international tourists visit this store, they stock most of the popular items.
Important: Duty-Free Service Closing Time!

I arrived around 4:30 PM and was happily shopping away when, at about 4:55 PM, a staff member came over to inform us that duty-free service would close at 5:00 PM and urged us to hurry if we wanted to claim our tax refunds.
They kindly waited for us to finish selecting our items 🥹

I quickly grabbed some beer to get the duty-free benefit.
This crucial information wasn't mentioned on Google Maps or in other reviews, so here's a **key tip for you:** 📌 If you're visiting around the same time as I did, make sure to process your duty-free items FIRST, then continue with your regular shopping! Tsushima can be a bit pricey, so securing that tax refund is a must!

I paid for the beer at the duty-free counter first, then leisurely shopped for other items and paid for them at the regular counter without tax exemption.
Good to know: Card payments are accepted!
Having visited both MaxValu Izuhara and Value Mart Oura, I personally preferred Oura.
While prices might be slightly higher than MaxValu, the duty-free savings often balance it out, and the variety of products felt much better here.
However, for liquor selection and prices, MaxValu in Izuhara did have a wider range and was generally cheaper.
Remember, duty-free service can close earlier than expected, so I highly recommend giving yourself plenty of time to shop and claim your refund.
📌Bonus Tip!
If you have extra time and are driving from Hitakatsu to Izuhara, consider making a stop at Direx Mitsushima.
I was told it's the most affordable supermarket on Tsushima, but I ran out of time and couldn't visit this trip. I'll be sure to check it out and share a review next time!
