As I was planning my trip to Tsushima Island,
the first hurdle I encountered was data connectivity.
Whenever I've traveled to Japan or Tsushima in the past,
I always rented a Wi-Fi Dosirak (pocket Wi-Fi device) at Busan Port.
It was my go-to for staying connected.
It was incredibly convenient — no need to fret; I'd just pick it up on the day of departure,
and return it when I got back. Simple as that!
But while preparing for this trip, I discovered something new.
A crucial piece of information:
Wi-Fi Dosirak Services at Busan Port: Completely Discontinued
Both SK and KT services ended as of December 2024.
Now, the option of simply picking up a device on the day of departure
is no longer available.

Apparently, many travelers have arrived at the port unaware of this change,
only to be caught off guard on their departure day.
If you think, "I'll just rent it when I get there," like in the past,
you're in for a big surprise!
But we can't just rely on expensive international roaming, can we?
So, what's the solution?
From now on, I'll share how you can enjoy robust data connectivity in Tsushima
without breaking the bank.
Let's dive in!

01. Why Data is Essential for Your Tsushima Trip
While Tsushima Island is geographically close to mainland Japan,
traveling without data can be surprisingly inconvenient.
It's not as easy as you might think!
✔ Map navigation is a must
✔ Essential for finding restaurants and cafes
✔ Using translation apps
✔ Checking ferry schedules
✔ KakaoTalk and staying connected
Tsushima, in particular, has limited public transportation information,
making it a destination where you rely heavily on Google Maps and online searches.
Data is your best friend!
For short trips, like an overnight stay,
data issues can quickly lead to wasted time and a diminished travel experience.
That's why preparing your data is absolutely fundamental to any successful trip.

02. Why You Should Choose an Alternative to Wi-Fi Dosirak
If you still wanted to use a Wi-Fi Dosirak like before,
the only option would be to have it delivered by mail.
But if you actually try to go that route, you'll find:
✔ It's difficult to coordinate delivery dates
✔ You have to worry about returning the device
✔ It's inefficient for short trips
✔ There's the risk of loss or damage
Plus, they often won't even rent for really short trips. Ugh!
For these reasons, honestly,
I find it hard to recommend for a trip to Tsushima.

03. My Chosen Method for Data Roaming in Tsushima: eSIM
After comparing various options, what I ultimately chose was
"eSIM."
Once I actually used it, I understood why everyone is raving about eSIMs.
It just makes so much sense!
✔ All you need is your phone
✔ No separate device to carry
✔ No charging required
✔ Instant use once installed
Your entire travel experience becomes significantly lighter and more streamlined.
Especially on trips like Tsushima, where you'll be doing a lot of walking,
the difference you'll feel is truly remarkable.
But hold on — here's why you can't just buy any eSIM.
Here's a crucial point you need to know:
The quality of eSIMs can vary significantly between providers.
Common problems that travelers often face include:
✔ Installed but unable to activate
✔ Unstable data connection
✔ Extremely slow speeds
These are real headaches!
Imagine arriving abroad and having no data —
it's truly a nightmare scenario, isn't it?

That's why I prioritized stability
when choosing a provider.
After comparing several companies, the one I picked was
"USIMSA eSIM."
And the reason was simple:
They offer the industry's only 'Quality Guaranteed Data Plan'.
04. Advantages of USIMSA eSIM for Tsushima Data Roaming
1. Quality Guaranteed Data Plan (The Most Important Reason!)
With a regular eSIM,
if it doesn't work, well, that's just the end of it.
But with USIMSA, you get:
✔ If you encounter data connection problems
✔ If there are any quality issues
"A Guarantee and Response System is in operation."

In other words,
it's a system where they take responsibility if problems arise.
For First-Time eSIM Users
And this is the biggest difference!

2. Stable Network All the Way to Tsushima
Tsushima, compared to mainland Japan,
tends to have a weaker communication environment.
So, if you just pick up any eSIM,
✔ Disconnections
✔ Slow speeds
✔ Delayed map loading
you might run into issues like these.
But Usimsa offers:
✔ Based on Japan's major communication networks
✔ Stable coverage all the way to Tsushima
From my actual experience using it:
✔ Hitakatsu: stable
✔ Izuhara: stable
✔ Tourist spots and ports: no issues at all
It's stable throughout your entire travel itinerary.
3. Super Easy Installation (Even for Beginners!)
✔ Scan a QR code
✔ Follow the simple instructions
✔ Installation is done in just 5 minutes!
Anyone can do it, no sweat!
And here's a crucial point:
You can install it before you even leave your home country,
and it automatically connects as soon as you arrive at your destination.
No more arriving at your destination only to find your data isn't working,
and having to scramble to get connected!
4. Travel Light, Worry-Free
With a portable WiFi device (like a WiFi Dosirak), you often have to deal with:
✔ Carrying an extra device
✔ Constant charging
✔ Slower speeds when multiple users are connected
But with Usimsa's eSIM:
✔ All you need is your phone
✔ No charging stress
✔ Stable speeds
Your travel itinerary becomes so much more flexible and free!
5. Perfectly Tailored for Tsushima Trips
Most trips to Tsushima are typically
1 night, 2 days
or 2 nights, 3 days.
That's why Usimsa offers:
✔ Plans specifically for short durations
✔ No unnecessary fees
✔ Plenty of data
It's truly the best value for your money!

05. My Real-Life Experience
After using it myself, I can tell you:
It connected instantly as soon as I stepped off the ferry,
and I had no issues with maps, searching, or even KakaoTalk.
Videos streamed smoothly without any buffering,
and the speeds were incredibly stable.
My satisfaction was much higher than when I used a portable WiFi (Dosirak) for data roaming in Tsushima,
because my travel flow wasn't interrupted at all.
Especially when navigating, I felt
absolutely no stress whatsoever.
As for Busan Port's WiFi Dosirak, it is now
unavailable for rental.
Since on-site arrangements are absolutely not possible,
it's essential to prepare before you depart.
After all, isn't satisfaction best seen in the reviews?

a much more convenient and efficient solution has emerged.
