If you're looking for a ryokan stay in Kyoto,

Umekoji Kadensho is an absolute must-recommend!

With **spacious rooms, a grand communal bath, and five private onsen baths**, it's

especially perfect for family trips.

I'll be sharing a detailed review, including the price I booked, discount codes,

and the types of private onsen available.

Location

Umekoji Kadensho is conveniently located near the Kyoto Aquarium and Kyoto Railway Museum,

and it's just a **1-minute walk to Umekoji-Kyotonishi Station** – talk about prime accessibility!

You can reach **Kyoto Station in just 10 minutes by direct bus or subway**, making it super convenient

for getting around or for your departure day.

There's a Seven-Eleven convenience store nearby,

and even a Michelin-starred ramen restaurant for a gourmet treat!

The Kyoto Ryokan Experience

I stayed in the **Grande Twin Room with two single beds**, perfect for

two adults. The room size is a generous 29m², which is incredibly spacious,

especially for a Japanese ryokan (typical Japanese business hotels are usually around 16m²).

You'll find a **TV, sofa, table, dressing table, and wardrobe**. There was plenty of space even with two large suitcases,

and you can easily store luggage in the hallway leading to the bathroom and shower.

The bathroom features a separate washbasin, toilet, and shower area.

With the communal grand bath and private onsen available,

I didn't even use the in-room shower, but it would be super handy for a quick wash on busy mornings!

I visited during Japan's spring break, which is **peak season**, so

I booked a stay at a higher-than-usual price of **~ $263 per night**.

On cheaper days, you might find rates in the **low to mid ~$146 range**, and prices also vary by room type,

so I recommend checking prices on different booking sites.

Now, let's dive into more detailed insights below!

Grande Twin Room Review

The lobby features traditional tatami flooring,

so you'll need to store your shoes in the shoe locker before entering.

At the welcome drink station, you'll find coffee, green tea,

an ice dispenser, and a variety of other teas available.

Free Drinks: 6 AM to Midnight

Amenities like combs, cotton pads, razors, body towels, shower caps,

hair ties, cotton swabs, and socks are available to take as many as you need.

**Cleansing oil, facial cleanser, moisturizing cream, and slippers**

**can be picked up at the front counter**.

While daily wear (yukata/pajamas) is provided in the room, but

If you're at a ryokan, it's definitely worth trying on a yukata at least once!

Yukatas are first-come, first-served, so if you go late, as you can see in the pictures,

only a few styles will be left ㅠㅠ

Beyond that, you can also borrow essential items like board games, chargers, wine openers,

and hair straighteners for free. Plus,

there are massage chairs available for free use in the hallway of the guest rooms!

The Grande Twin Room was fantastic – spacious, with a city view overlooking Kyoto,

so it never felt cramped!

Perhaps because it was so spacious, there was absolutely no noise.

With tatami flooring, I loved being able to wander around and even lie down freely

without needing slippers.

The refrigerator comes stocked with two bottles of water, and the closet is prepared with

loungewear, outerwear, towels,

and a basket.

Private Onsen

The biggest reason I booked Umekoji Kadensho?

It was the fact that there are five private onsen baths!

They operate 24 hours a day and don't take reservations.

(Note: Some baths might be unavailable for use

during cleaning time, from 10 AM to 3 PM.)

You can check if a bath is in use at the entrance.

If the light is on, it means it's already occupied,

and if the light is off, you can use it right away.

During evening peak hours, there are often many people waiting,

so a waiting area with chairs is provided.

(To enjoy it with fewer crowds,

I recommend visiting around 5-6 PM or 6 AM.)

I intentionally aimed for the early morning hours when there are fewer people,

so I got to try all five onsen baths!

Among the five, the most popular was, of course, the Rock Onsen!

Baths #2, the Rock Onsen, and #3, the Tarukagami-yu, are

natural hot springs, which makes them very popular.

The Rock Onsen definitely had a better ambiance

than the others.

The natural onsen here felt a bit more slippery than the other baths?

Or perhaps had a slightly milky texture?

Honestly, they were all just wonderful...

Even though it was a pricier booking, it was absolutely worth every penny!

Unlike public baths, I also loved that families or couples

could enjoy them together.

Grand Bath

The Grand Bath operates from 3 PM to 10 AM,

and it's unavailable for use between 3 AM and 4 AM for cleaning.

Complimentary Snacks

At the lounge, guests are offered various types of complimentary snacks,

and the serving times are as follows:

Welcome Lounge Hours - 4:00 PM ~ 7:00 PM

I checked in late, so I missed out on the Dango,

but I still managed to grab two ice creams! Haha.

They weren't cheap-tasting at all; they were genuinely delicious!

The ramen was surprisingly good too.

It was definitely tastier than convenience store ramen.

While there's a convenience store nearby, you don't even need to step out.

They have everything you could want, from vending machines and complimentary drinks to free snacks.

Personally, this was the most satisfying ryokan I've ever stayed at in Japan.
