Looking for affordable stays in central Ubud? We compare Anumana Hotel and Tegal Sari Accommodation. Find out which budget-friendly hotel is right for you!
On our first day arriving in Ubud, Bali,
we got in past midnight and just needed a place to crash.
Since our itinerary the next day was packed with exploring central Ubud (Monkey Forest, local temples, etc.),

we split our stays: Day 1 at Anumana / Day 2 at Tegal Sari.
By day three, our plan was to move to a jungle-view resort in Tanggayuda to fully relax.

Both of these budget spots offered incredible value, so I decided to write a comparison review.
We booked these on Agoda for around ~$77 per night.
(Anumana was ~$92 / Tegal Sari was ~$69)
They are perfect if you're out exploring Ubud all day and just need a clean, comfortable place to sleep.
First up: Checking into Anumana Ubud Hotel!
We used an airport taxi service,
which made the late-night arrival super smooth.

While waiting for check-in to process,
I snapped some photos of their spa and service menus~
and took a quick peek at the pool.
The pool area looked absolutely stunning at night.
It really gave me that "I'm finally on vacation" feeling. Haha.

According to reviews I read before coming,
not many people actually use this pool.
We were planning to swim endlessly once we hit the Gili Islands,
so we just enjoyed the view here.
Such a quiet, peaceful pool area ~~ 🏊🏻♂️
Great vibes, right?

Spotted a cute little lizard!!!
If you hate reptiles, you might freak out,
but we thought it was adorable. Lol.
One thing I absolutely loved about Bali...
The staff carried all our heavy luggage for us (even for short distances) ㅠㅠㅠ
They help with literally everything. So incredibly hospitable ~~~
We finally got into our room around 1:20 AM ^^
Since we only needed to sleep,
we booked a comfortable twin bed setup.
I had saved our trip as a "honeymoon" on the booking platforms
just to see the different towel art at each hotel,
and this one was super cute!

Pros: You walk in and go "Wow~~ so pretty!"
It instantly boosts your mood even when you're exhausted.
Cons: It's kind of annoying to clean off the bed ^^ Lol.
Some people say it attracts bugs so you shouldn't request it,
but for a budget stay, I think it's fine to enjoy once.
TMI ) The hotel staff member explained everything so kindly
that we gave him a nice tip since it was our first day.
Though we quickly learned we shouldn't throw tips around too freely! Haha.
Even though I was tired, I snapped some room photos.
It's a very cozy, compact size—perfect for a quick overnight stay.
They provided some very green welcome fruit.

I didn't touch it, but my partner tried the banana and maybe the orange?
He said it tasted normal. Lol. Sweet banana, sour orange ~

They also offered a yoga class, but ㅠㅠ I was too tired for that.
Lol.
We did, however, fully enjoy the breakfast.
I had read that Anumana's breakfast was great, and it's definitely a must-try!!!
Photos of the food coming up shortly.
The bathroom layout might catch you off guard at first,
but you can pull down the blinds for privacy. Lol.

Oh right, let's talk about the water quality here!!!!
A shower filter is an ABSOLUTE must in Bali.
We brought a small travel filter from home,
and it turned pitch black after just one use.
Lol. Seriously, do not forget to pack one.

The sink area was clean @
Here's a daytime shot of the pool from the hotel.
It was nice and quiet.
It was a bit humid, as expected in the tropics.

Took some mirror selfies ~~🤳🏻

We were starving right after arriving,
so we cracked open some instant ramen we packed.
Nothing beats late-night noodles after a long flight ㅠㅠㅠ
Since we heard good things about the food here,
we made sure to wake up for breakfast.

The dining area was super close to our room,
and the atmosphere was fantastic.

Grabbed a great table!
I think we just had some juice and tea for drinks?
Didn't drink too much.

We ordered Eggs Benedict and Nasi Goreng.
Both were solidly delicious.
More than anything, the vibe was just perfect. Beautiful terrace style.

Even if it's a bit warm, it feels great.
Total Southeast Asia vacation vibes ~~~

Nasi Goreng & Eggs Benedict
Looking back, it wasn't a life-changing culinary experience,
but it was clean, tasty, and definitely worth including
in your room rate to start the day right.

After eating, we checked out and headed over to Tegal Sari.
Someone online said...
these two hotels are so close you could just throw your suitcase over.
And they were right. They are literally right next to each other! Lol.

Because of this, switching hotels after just one night was completely hassle-free.

The best part? Even though it was a 10-second walk,
the staff still insisted on carrying our luggage for us.
They are the best ㅠ_ㅠ

During check-in, they helpfully pointed out
nearby supermarkets and grocery stores.
Balinese hospitality is unmatched!!!
We were planning to head straight to the Monkey Forest,
but a staff member suddenly offered to show us a restaurant.
I'm usually very skeptical when traveling abroad, so I was a bit suspicious at first. ㅠㅠ By day 10 of our trip, I felt so bad for ever doubting anyone because the locals here are genuinely just pure and kind.
Welcome tea...? We didn't really want it, but...
we felt bad declining, so we sat down for a bit.

Honestly, the drink wasn't great. Lol.
We sat for a minute to be polite and then headed out.
.
.
We spent the whole day exploring the Monkey Forest
and Ubud temples (full post coming soon!),
got an amazing massage,
and finally returned to the hotel late at night.

A staff member guided us to our room.
Even though the price difference between the two hotels was minimal,
the room here was significantly larger.

It felt much more spacious
for opening up our suitcases and moving around!
Honestly, every time we walked into a new accommodation in Bali,
we were just so happy.

The staff gave us a very thorough explanation
about the mosquito coils and room features. Huhu.
The bathroom also felt a bit bigger,
but practically speaking, there wasn't a massive difference. Lol.

Since it's right next door to Anumana, the water quality is exactly the same.
We were super cautious early in the trip, but by this point, we didn't stress about it too much.

There was a separate sofa area,

plenty of outlets, and a room service menu.
However, a quick warning: almost all budget hotels in Bali have incredibly weak hair dryers.
(Only luxury spots like Andaz Bali or Komaneka have strong ones.)
I highly recommend bringing your own travel hair dryer if you have thick hair.

There was also a small extra bed (?)
which makes me think this room can accommodate more people.
The next morning we went out to explore the property,
and discovered they have a total of THREE pools!
If you love swimming, this is definitely the better choice.

A quick picture before heading out!

The weather was gorgeous again,
and we headed up to the rooftop pool first.
Be prepared to climb a lot of stairs though! Lol.

The water temperature was perfect (not too cold).
On our way down, we saw a Western tourist heading up for a swim,
looking very relaxed and carefree.

Next, we walked over to the outdoor ground-level pool.

My partner took this photo on the way,
and I absolutely love it. Total jungle vibes ~~

Oh?! There were several tourists reading books here 📖
(I noticed this in Chiang Mai too—people love reading by the pool!)
Everyone was just soaking in the peaceful atmosphere.
The ambiance was truly fantastic. Haha.

On our way to check out,
we spotted the third pool sitting right in the middle of the property.
(Though this one felt a bit too exposed to swim in comfortably. Lol.)
Ubud Budget Hotels: Tegal Sari Accommodation vs. Anumana Ubud Hotel
Comparison and Final Thoughts
What they have in common: Both offer incredible value for money.
They are centrally located in Ubud with top-tier accessibility.
They are literally right next to each other, making hotel hopping effortless.
The staff at both properties are exceptionally kind.
Water quality is poor at both (standard for Bali), so bring a shower filter!
Anumana Hotel: The dining area has a great vibe, and the breakfast is delicious.
The rooms are relatively small, and the water pressure/quality isn't the best ^^;
It's a perfect spot if you just need a clean place to sleep for a night!

Tegal Sari: With three pools, this is the better choice if you want to swim.
The room condition is slightly better (and much more spacious).
The dining area is cramped, so you can safely skip the breakfast here.

If I had to recommend just one...
Unless a big hotel breakfast is a top priority for you,
I personally think Tegal Sari offers a more satisfying experience
thanks to the multiple pools and larger rooms.
I hope this helps you plan your itinerary when mixing luxury resorts
with budget-friendly stays in Bali. 😁

📍 Anumana Ubud Hotel
Jl. Monkey Forest, Ubud, Kecamatan Ubud, Kabupaten Gianyar, Bali 80571, Indonesia
I booked Anumana Ubud Hotel on Agoda for about ~$79 per night, and Tegalsari Accommodation for about ~$59 per night. Both were excellent value-for-money accommodations in Ubud town.
The water quality at both accommodations was poor, making filter use essential. Especially at Anumana Ubud Hotel, the filter I brought turned completely black after just one use, indicating very bad water quality.
Tegalsari Accommodation's room was much larger than Anumana Ubud Hotel's. It felt more comfortable to open a suitcase and move around.
Tegalsari Accommodation has a total of three pools. The top-floor pool requires climbing many stairs, and in the outdoor pool, you could see Westerners enjoying their leisure time while reading books.
Anumana Ubud Hotel had a more delicious breakfast and a better atmosphere. We ordered Eggs Benedict and Nasi Goreng, and it was clean enough that I'd recommend having a meal there, especially since breakfast was included.
