It's about a 20-minute motorbike ride
from Ubud town.
Perched on a hill,
it's a true gem for its views, offering
panoramic vistas of the jungle and valley.

Sunset time reservations fill up quickly.
I made my reservation via Google Maps,
and arriving a bit early allowed me to settle in leisurely
and fully soak in the sunset.
Among Bali's restaurants,
this is the perfect spot when you want to enjoy
both great ambiance and delicious food.
Ambiance & Sunset View

The restaurant has a two-story layout.
If you can't get a dinner reservation for sunset,
you can first enjoy a cocktail at the rooftop bar 'Arriba'
while watching the sunset,
and then have dinner on the downstairs terrace.

With steak and wine, I couldn't imagine
a better place for an anniversary fine dining experience.
Many people come to Bali for their honeymoon,
and this place is absolutely perfect for that.

Sunset time is the most popular slot.
Make a reservation via Google Maps at least a week in advance.
Welcome Drink & Appetizer

Welcome Drink: Tepache
It's a Mexican fermented pineapple drink.
It has a slight alcoholic kick, but tastes similar to
Korea's traditional sweet rice punch (Gamju),
so I think it would appeal to many.

Chipa
It's a South American cheese bread.
Served warm, it's wonderfully chewy with a rich cheesy aroma,
tasting somewhat like a buttery rice cake made with yellow cheese.
It's a great light starter before your meal.

Scallop Ceviche
(Vieiras Con Citricos Ceviche)
I ordered this as an appetizer,
and it was absolutely perfect for whetting the appetite.
Light and refreshing, it's ideal to have before your steak.
Main Steak Review

The essence of Chupacabras is their
Argentinian wood-fired (log fire)
grilled prime steak.
I ordered two different cuts.

Entrana De Wagyu Stone Axe 160g,
Medium Rare
This is the skirt steak cut, close to the diaphragm.
It had a rich meaty flavor and a wonderfully chewy texture,
which was exactly to my liking.

Lomo De Wagyu 160g, Medium Rare
This cut is similar to tenderloin,
and its juiciness was absolutely incredible.
Highly recommended for those who prefer a tender texture.
When ordering, the chef personally comes to your table
and explains each cut of meat.
He seemed to be Italian, and his 'R' pronunciation had a distinctive rolled sound,
so I asked again, and he kindly re-explained
and even complimented my choices!

For sauces, the server allows you to choose
two out of eight options per person,
and one out of four types of salt.
I was deliberating for a while, and thoughtfully,
they brought small samples of all four salts,
so I could experience them all.

The smoky aroma from the wood fire truly permeates the meat.
To best preserve the juiciness, I recommend medium-rare.
Sides & Wine

Grilled Asparagus
(Esparragos Verdes A Las Brasas)
This is asparagus grilled over a wood fire,
and I truly highly recommend it.
It has a wonderfully savory, smoky flavor infused into it.
It's a perfect pairing with the steak.

Shrimp Pasta
(Fideitos Con Mariscos)
This pasta came with two types of shrimp,
but it wasn't as special as I'd hoped, so
honestly, I was a bit disappointed.
Since this place excels at steak,
you might want to skip this one.

Kaiken Estate Malbec
(Kaiken Estate Malbec)
It's an Argentinian wine.
While it's pricier than buying it outside,
savoring a glass of wine with steak
while watching the sunset
truly completed the anniversary ambiance.
Service & Price Summary

Total for 2 People
Item | Amount |
Subtotal | 2,799,000 Rupiah |
Service Charge | 195,930 Rupiah |
Government Tax | 299,493 Rupiah |
Grand Total
3,294,500 Rupiah
Approximately ~$204 (for two people).
That's about ~$102 per person.
There were a lot of taxes,
and we ordered a wide variety of dishes,
so it might feel expensive,

If it were a steak of this quality in Korea,
it would probably cost more than ~$109 per person,
so I actually felt it was great value for money.

Among all the restaurants in Bali,
the food, service, and atmosphere all
left nothing to be desired.

It's no wonder it has a 4.9-star rating on Google!
For sunset reservations, it's best to book through Google Maps
at least a week in advance.

You'll need to pay a deposit via WhatsApp on the day of your visit,
so don't worry that it might be a scam!

CHUPACABRAS boasts stunning Ubud sunset views,
wood-fired Wagyu steak,
and attentive chef-led table service,
making it a fantastic spot for celebrations and anniversaries in Bali!
Make sure to order the grilled asparagus as a side,
and I'd recommend adding extra meat over the shrimp pasta.

The heart of Chupacabras Ubud lies in its prime steaks grilled over an Argentine wood-fired grill. We particularly recommend the Wagyu Stone Axe Skirt Steak (Entrana De Wagyu Stone Axe) and Wagyu Tenderloin (Lomo De Wagyu), cooked medium-rare, which truly capture the smoky aroma of the wood fire.
