Traveling to Turkey (Türkiye)
Weather, Best Places to Visit, and Recommendations: September, October, November in Istanbul
Written & Photographed by Chujang
To be honest, quite a few people hesitate when planning a trip to Turkey.
They worry about things like, "Is it safe?", "Will the food suit my taste?",
or "How will I handle the language barrier?"
But once you actually step foot there,
you'll realize how completely unnecessary those worries were.
Turkey is far safer and much more welcoming than you might think.
It's truly one of my all-time favorite travel destinations..!
English is widely spoken in all the major tourist areas,
and Turkish cuisine is incredibly delicious and easy to love.
Plus, because the cost of travel is so reasonable,
you can enjoy a luxurious vacation without breaking the bank.
Above all, Turkey is one of those rare travel destinations
that appeals to everyone from their 20s to their 70s.

Younger travelers fall in love with thrilling activities
like hot air ballooning and paragliding,
while parents and older travelers are captivated
by the deep historical sites and rich cultural heritage.
A friend of mine who traveled with their parents in their 60s
even said, "My parents actually enjoyed it more than I did!"—they couldn't stop raving about it..
While Turkey is magical year-round,
September through November is the absolute golden season to visit.
The intense summer heat has faded,
and the winter chill hasn’t arrived yet—
making it the perfect weather for exploring.
Plus, because this is peak travel season in Turkey,
all the activities and tours are in full swing.
But because of its popularity,
booking everything in advance is absolutely crucial!
Especially for bucket-list experiences like the Cappadocia hot air balloon rides
or popular local tours, which get fully booked months ahead—
so don’t wait to book..!!
Today, for those of you planning
a trip to Türkiye,
I’ve put together a guide on autumn weather, packing tips,
and the absolute must-visit
attractions in Türkiye!
Turkey Weather in September

City | Average Temperature | Weather Highlights | Rainfall |
Istanbul | 18~24°C | Cool and pleasant, occasional rain | Low |
Cappadocia | 11~26°C | Large temperature swings, perfect for balloons | Very low |
Antalya | 20~30°C | Still warm, great for beach activities | Almost none |
Pamukkale | 15~28°C | Perfect for enjoying the hot springs | Low |
The weather in Türkiye during September
is absolutely perfect for travel.
It's warm during the day,
but cool enough in the mornings and evenings
to walk around comfortably without breaking a sweat.
What to Wear in Turkey in September
Daytime: A light long-sleeve shirt or a t-shirt paired with a cardigan is plenty.
Mornings/Evenings: A light jacket or knit cardigan is an absolute must.
Especially in inland regions like Cappadocia, where the daily temperature swings are huge, so make sure to pack warm layers..
Sunglasses, comfortable sneakers,
and sunscreen are your essentials,
and it's also a good idea to pack
a light umbrella or a windbreaker just in case of unexpected rain.
Turkey Weather in October

City | Average Temperature | Weather Highlights | What to Wear |
Istanbul | 14~20°C | Cool autumn, slightly more rain | Knits + light coat |
Cappadocia | 10~20°C | Chilly, extreme temperature swings | Thick jacket/coat is essential |
Antalya | 15~25°C | Still mild and pleasant | Light long-sleeves + jacket |
Pamukkale | 12~22°C | Perfect for enjoying the hot springs | Knitwear + Cardigan |
October weather in Turkey is absolutely perfect.
It's neither too hot nor too cold,
so you can explore all day long without feeling exhausted.
However, the mornings and evenings
can get quite chilly, so packing a light jacket is a must!
It's also a great idea to pack a packable puffer jacket
just in case you head to Cappadocia!
Turkey Weather in November

City | Average Temp | Weather Features | What to Pack |
Istanbul | 10–15°C | Chilly, frequent rain | Coat, umbrella (must-haves) |
Cappadocia | 5–10°C | Cold mornings & evenings | Puffer jacket, thermal layers |
Antalya | 15–20°C | Mildest weather | Sweater + light jacket |
Pamukkale | 8–18°C | Hot springs are even more inviting | Thick outerwear |
In November, you can definitely feel
that winter is just around the corner in Turkey.
Even so, it's still a pretty decent time
to travel around the country.
What to Wear
In November, you really need to pack
with winter in mind.
Especially if you plan on taking
an early-morning hot air balloon ride in Cappadocia—
you'll need to bundle up big time!
Morning temps can drop close to freezing..!
BEST 4 Places to Visit in Turkey
Istanbul - Where East Meets West

Istanbul is such a fascinating city where you can experience
the charm of Asia and the vibe of Europe all at the same time.

At the Hagia Sophia, you can marvel at a unique architectural beauty
where Christian and Islamic cultures blend seamlessly,
while the stunning blue tiles of the Blue Mosque
will truly take your breath away.

At Topkapi Palace,
you can catch a glimpse of the Ottoman Empire's glamorous past.
For shopping, head straight to the Grand Bazaar!
As one of the oldest covered markets in the world,
it literally has everything you could ever imagine.

You also can't miss the panoramic views of Istanbul
from the top of the Galata Tower,
and taking a Bosphorus Strait Cruise
is the absolute highlight of any Istanbul trip..!

Since Istanbul has so much to see and can be quite overwhelming,
I highly recommend booking a guided tour.
It's so much more fun when you truly understand the historical background and culture!
It would be even better if your itinerary allows for 3 days or more, but...
To get a great overview of the city,
I highly recommend kicking off
your very first day with a tour..!

Cappadocia

Cappadocia honestly feels like stepping onto another planet.
The hot air balloon tour is an absolute must-do,
but since prices vary daily and there is a lot of coordination
needed for bookings and pick-ups, I highly recommend
booking through a well-reviewed, reliable agency with clear communication!
An unforgettable experience! Cappadocia Balloon Tour (Hot Air Balloon) :: Turkey/Türkiye - MyRealTrip
The weather in Cappadocia during September, October, and November
is particularly stable,
making it the absolute best time for a high balloon flight success rate.
But because of that, spots fill up super quickly,
so you definitely want to book well in advance!

The fairy chimneys of Göreme National Park and
the underground cities are absolutely mind-blowing.
It makes you wonder how ancient people could have built such things.
In Pasabag Valley and Uchisar Castle,
you can fully take in Cappadocia's incredibly unique landscape.
Pamukkale

Pamukkale's travertine thermal terraces are
truly like a masterpiece created by the gods.
Photos taken on these white, cascading steps
will definitely be the ultimate shots of your lifetime.
Fethiye & Ölüdeniz

Fethiye is known in Türkiye
for boasting some of the most beautiful beaches.
The Blue Lagoon in Ölüdeniz
is so stunningly beautiful that words can't even describe it.

Paragliding is an absolute must-do activity.
Looking down from the sky at the colors of Türkiye's sea
is truly a fantastical experience.
For paragliding,
I highly recommend booking in advance,
because when it comes to paragliding,
it's directly linked to your safety.
Rather than just picking any cheap place,
it is crucial to go with a fully certified company.
Also, the street-hailing and soliciting here is crazy.
I met a fellow traveler who didn't negotiate properly
and ended up getting ripped off
on extra fees for entrance tickets and videos later on... haha. 😂

The Pirate Boat Tour is also super fun!
You get to sail around different bays, swim,
and have lunch... it's pure healing and relaxation itself.
They even throw a foam party, which is so much fun! haha
For the Pirate Boat Tour, the same tour is available on both MyRealTrip and Klook,
but Klook is about ~$1 cheaper.

that you might have trouble deciding where to start.
But if time allows,
I highly recommend visiting Istanbul, Cappadocia, Pamukkale, and Fethiye.
Each place has such a distinct charm, you definitely won't regret it!
Türkiye is a country that keeps calling you back once you've visited.
