Hagia Sophia Tickets 2026: Is Fast Track Worth It?
Is Hagia Sophia still worth visiting during its massive restoration? Get the honest truth on ticket prices, long lines, and if Fast Track is worth it in 2026.

Hagia Sophia in Istanbul:
They say it's under construction—is it still worth visiting right now?
When you're planning a trip to Istanbul,
there's one question that pops up everywhere:
"Isn't Hagia Sophia under construction right now?"
To give you the short answer first,
yes, it is under construction,
but it is still fully open to visitors!

However, if you're hoping to see the completely unobstructed,
picture-perfect view of the past, you might feel a tiny bit disappointed.
In this post, I’ll break down the current construction details
and give you an honest take on whether booking a fast-track ticket
is worth it right now.

1. Is it still worth visiting during the construction?

Hagia Sophia is currently undergoing
the largest restoration project
in its entire history.
Because this is a project to preserve
a 1,500-year-old monument,
scaffolding and covers are set up
all over both the interior and exterior.

Here is what you can expect to see
if you visit right now:
✔️ Partial construction ongoing on the main dome
✔️ Internal scaffolding and protective covers installed
✔️ Cranes and construction areas set up outside
So, if you are dreaming of that wide, open view
you've seen on social media, you might feel a bit let down.
But that doesn’t mean
it's not worth visiting anymore!

You can still beautifully view most of the
Byzantine mosaics in the 2nd-floor gallery.
The atmosphere and sheer scale of this
1,500-year-old monument are still absolutely breathtaking.
Honestly, witnessing such a massive, historic
restoration project in action
is a pretty rare and unique experience in itself.
There is no official completion date
announced for this restoration project.
Going sooner might actually allow you to see more of
its original, completed state before different areas close off.
If it’s your first time in Istanbul, I believe
it is still 100% worth a visit.
2. The Downsides of Buying Tickets On-Site

Particularly from morning to afternoon, the waiting lines
for Hagia Sophia can get incredibly long.
In the blazing heat of summer,
waiting outside can be quite exhausting.
Also, ticket booth staff on-site sometimes use
upselling strategies. Before you even realize it,
you might end up with a Hagia Sophia + Museum combo ticket
or be pressured into buying a pricier ticket
that includes an audio guide.
Since it's not always easy to select the exact ticket you want on the spot,
booking online in advance will give you
much more peace of mind.

I traveled to Istanbul in the middle of summer,
and let me tell you, the heat was intense!
After experiencing that scorching sun,
I knew I didn't have the patience to stand in line on-site...
Even if it cost a bit more, I absolutely
wanted to avoid melting in the heat while waiting.
Plus, I couldn't stand the thought of being
pressured into buying expensive bundles I didn't want..
In the end, paying a little extra to
book the Fast Track ticket online
was incredibly satisfying.
4. Honest Review & Experience

Pros
Breeze right in just by showing your QR code
Saves tons of time, making your itinerary so much more relaxed
Enjoy the tour with helpful commentary/audio guides
Even with renovations, you can still enjoy all the main highlights

Cons / Things to Keep in Mind
If you were hoping to see the grand main dome
completely free of scaffolding, you might find it slightly disappointing.
However, the ongoing renovations are
definitely not a reason to "skip it."
As long as you manage your expectations slightly,
it is still a deeply rewarding and spectacular historical landmark.

6. How to Book Hagia Sophia

To sum it up,
Istanbul's Hagia Sophia
is indeed undergoing restoration work.
However,
you can still visit normally,
most of the iconic mosaics are still visible,
and the fact that it's the ultimate landmark of Istanbul
remains completely unchanged.

However, if you're expecting to see the main dome completely open,
you might be slightly disappointed. Keep this in mind
before planning your visit!
I visited here in August 2025.
At that time, the 1st floor was open to Muslims only,
and tourists were only allowed on the 2nd floor.
Even though the accessible areas were limited,
honestly, I didn't feel like the admission fee was a waste at all.
It wasn't just about looking at things with my own eyes—
listening to the audio guide
and realizing I was standing right in the middle of 1,500 years of history
made the experience incredibly fascinating and fun.

So, depending on what your travel priorities are,
you can decide whether visiting Hagia Sophia
is right for you.
Also, rather than waiting in a long line on a hot summer day,
booking a fast-track ticket in advance
saved me precious travel time,
which made the whole experience so much more satisfying!
After all, on any trip, the most precious thing
is always time, not money.

What is the price of purchasing a Hagia Sophia entrance ticket on-site, and what should I be aware of?
The on-site ticket price is 25 euros, which is ~$28. Please note that the waiting line can be long, and you should be careful as staff may try to push you to buy more expensive tickets that include a museum pass or an audio guide.
What are the advantages of the Hagia Sophia fast-track ticket sold on Klook for ~$34?
You can enter quickly without waiting in line on-site by using the issued QR code. It is also convenient because you can avoid the unwanted upselling of options that may occur when purchasing tickets on-site.

For purchases over ~$32, you can enter the code '세시간전260001' to get a ~$1 discount, and depending on the payment amount, you can save up to ~$4. This coupon can only be applied through a dedicated link until September 30, 2026.
When will the ongoing large-scale restoration work on Hagia Sophia be completed?
