Many travelers visit Tsushima, Japan solely for the fantastic shopping experience.
Most of you will likely find yourselves doing your souvenir shopping at Value Mart Oura Store.
Today, I'll introduce you to a souvenir shopping list worth checking out at Tsushima's Value Mart!

📍 Value Mart Oura Store is located approximately 4.5km from Hitakatsu Port, which takes about 20-30 minutes by bicycle.
Taking a taxi is the most convenient option, but it's also a perfectly walkable distance.
While there's another Value Mart near Hitakatsu Port, it's quite small, more like a local convenience store. For some serious souvenir shopping, you absolutely must visit the Oura branch!
Value Mart Oura Store is still a sizable supermarket, comparable to the grocery section of a large department store.
Here, I'll introduce you to some must-buy snacks, treats, and souvenirs that are definitely worth adding to your cart!
Fresh Food & Bento Boxes
📍 First up, let's explore the fresh food and bento box selections.
Just like any typical Japanese supermarket, they offer sashimi and sushi in convenient bento box form, and the prices, around 1,500 yen, are quite reasonable.
Beyond that, you'll discover a wide variety of easy-to-grab meals like gimbap, onigiri, and other general bento boxes.
Since there aren't many restaurants open late near Hitakatsu Port, grabbing these bento boxes or other convenient snacks and meals to take with you is an excellent idea.
Jellies & Puddings
📍 Next up, let's dive into the wide world of jellies and puddings!
The popular konjac jellies, a favorite among travelers, were available in a fantastic variety at Value Mart too.
Unlike airplanes, ferries don't have baggage weight limits, so these make for perfect souvenirs to shop for to your heart's content!
Next up, we have a delightful array of puddings!
From the popular Jassy Pudding to a variety of everyday puddings, there's so much to choose from.
Just a little tip: puddings with a slightly higher price point tend to be richer and creamier, offering an even more delicious experience!
Ice Cream
📍 Next, let's dive into the wonderful world of ice cream!
Did you know that Japan has an ice cream called 'Sou' that's quite similar to Korea's 'Wa'?
With even more flavors like melon, chocolate, vanilla, and strawberry, you simply have to give it a try!
Super Cup ice cream is another favorite of mine, offering fantastic value for money. It comes in a generous cup, so much so that it's perfect for sharing with a travel buddy!
Snacks & Confectionery
📍 There was also an incredible selection of snacks and confectionery, perfect for a quick bite or a sweet treat!
First up, we have these conveniently portioned snack bags.
While they might seem a little pricey for the quantity, they're absolutely perfect for when you're craving a small snack and want to enjoy it bit by bit. I make sure to stock up on them every time I visit Japan!
Plus, being individually portioned, they make fantastic souvenirs for friends and family back home.
You'll find that Pretz and Alfort come in a much wider and more affordable range of flavors compared to what you might find in Korea, making them excellent choices to bring home.
Especially, the Tomato Pretz offers a surprisingly delightful flavor – I highly recommend you give it a try!
Kakinotane is the ultimate snack to pair with beer.
The wasabi flavor, in particular, has a delightful kick that makes it incredibly addictive. You won't be able to stop reaching for more! Seriously, if you love beer, this is a must-try!
And finally, we have Jagarico, a classic potato snack. It's quite similar to the Korean 'Noonuel Gamja' but often a bit more affordable, so if you're a fan of potato snacks, it's definitely worth picking up!
Ramen
📍 Next on our Japanese must-buy list is one of my personal favorites: instant ramen!
These cup ramen varieties are perfect for a quick and easy meal. The Tantanmen cup ramen, in particular, is incredibly delicious, so I highly recommend you give it a try at least once!
However, do note that products containing real meat toppings might be difficult to bring into your home country, so be sure to check regulations carefully before purchasing.
You'll also find Ichiran Ramen meal kits and cup ramen – a beloved Japanese ramen by many, including Koreans!
Since there isn't an Ichiran Ramen restaurant on Tsushima Island, picking these up as a delicious alternative is a brilliant idea, don't you think?
Beyond these, there were also plenty of classic Miso and Shoyu ramen options.
If you're someone who loves exploring new flavors,
it could be fun to grab a few different types to try!
And finally, we have the UFO Mentaiko Butter Ramen.
This ramen truly delivers the rich umami of mentaiko and butter,
and its amazing flavor made it one of the most delicious ramens I've ever had.
I highly recommend giving it a try!
Magnets
📍 Just like my husband and I, are there any of you who collect travel souvenir
magnets?
We had trouble finding specific Tsushima magnets anywhere, but
Value Mart did have one or two kinds.
While they weren't particularly pretty, for collectors,
it might still be a good place to pick one up.
Alcoholic Beverages
📍 You can't skip alcohol shopping on a trip to Japan, right?
There was a more diverse selection of alcoholic beverages than I expected.
First up, while not technically an alcoholic drink, here's the perfect souvenir to remember Tsushima:
Tsushima Sunset Soda.
Doesn't this look like a perfect gift?
While it might not be something you'd necessarily bring back home,
there was a good selection of
Nigorizake and small-sized sake that are perfect for casually enjoying locally.
For those who enjoy sweeter alcoholic beverages, there was a great variety of
Horoyoi and Sour drinks.
What really caught my eye were the 150ml mini beers.
They're perfect for that first, satisfying sip, so
we ended up buying a 6-pack.
Next, we have the famous
Dassai 23 and Dassai 39, well-known even among Koreans.
The 23 costs ~$68 including tax,
and the 39 is ~$38, which is quite expensive.
I'd recommend against buying these here.
Next up are the value-for-money whisky options that are great for making highballs.
Suntory Whisky costs ~$13 after tax,
which is 20-30% more expensive compared to mainland Japan.
However, compared to supermarket prices in Korea,
it's about half the price, so it's still worth picking up.
There were also many inexpensive boxed sakes,
but apparently, these sakes are considered to be of a lower grade.
So, I'd recommend not going out of your way to buy them.
And finally, since you've made it all the way to Tsushima,
taking home some local spirits would be the perfect souvenir, wouldn't it?
There's even a special corner dedicated entirely to Tsushima's local specialties,
so I highly recommend grabbing something unique from there.
As for me, I picked up a bottle of **Yamaneko**, Tsushima's very own shochu!
Payment and Bus Information
Since we visited by bicycle,
it was a bit tricky to buy a huge haul of goodies.
So, we kept our shopping limited to just enough to fill one basket,
and wrapped up our shopping at around 7,000 yen.
Just a heads-up about payment:
tax-free shopping isn't available at Value Mart,
and you'll need to pay an extra 5 yen per bag.
Also, there's a bus timetable conveniently posted right in front of the cash registers,
**but there's only about one bus every two hours.**
So, if you're planning to rely on the bus, make sure to
check the bus schedule before you dive into your shopping spree!
For Shopping in Hitakatsu, Head to the Oura Store!
If you're visiting Hitakatsu in Tsushima and planning to do some shopping,
I highly recommend making your way to the Oura store.
Compared to the Value Mart right at Hitakatsu Port,
the Oura store boasts a much wider variety of products and a larger scale,
making for a truly enjoyable shopping experience!
Just keep in mind, though, since Tsushima is an island,
**many items tend to be over 10% more expensive compared to mainland Japan.**
Please factor this into your shopping plans!
