月島もんじゃ くうや 渋谷
During my Tokyo trip in the summer of 2025,
since Monjayaki was a relatively new dish to me,
I really pondered where to try it.
What's more, I'd read many reviews about long wait times in Shibuya,
so I was quite worried. But thankfully, when I visited after 10 PM,
I was relieved to walk right in without any waiting.
The staff even cooked it for us, and it was delicious,
making my first monjayaki experience truly satisfying.
1. | Tsukishima Monja Kuuya Shibuya Why I Chose It, Location, and Basic Information |

After a full day of exploring Shibuya, Tokyo,
I rested at my accommodation, then felt a bit hungry and thought about getting a late-night snack.
That's when I searched for 'Shibuya restaurants' and found this spot.
It was already past 10 PM,
so most good restaurants had already closed.
I was looking for a highly-rated place that operated late,
and that's how I ended up visiting Tsukishima Monja Kuuya Shibuya.
It was a dish I'd wanted to try anyway, so I happily hurried over!
📍 Tsukishima Monja Kuuya Shibuya
Japan 〒150-0002 Tokyo, Shibuya, 1-chōme−25−6 Parkside Kyodo Bldg. 1F
Let me break down its location and basic info for you.
📍 Located in the heart of Shibuya, this restaurant is
within a 10-minute walk of various attractions like Shibuya Sky, the Hachiko statue, and Shibuya 109.
✔️ Open daily from 11 AM until 4 AM the next day,
making it perfect for a late-night visit.
💴 I paid with cash.
(According to Google Maps, NFC mobile payment, PayPay,
and Rakuten Pay are also accepted.)
2. | Waiting Time & Atmosphere |

My visit was on a weekday (Monday) at 10:36 PM.
Fortunately, there was no waiting.
I'd heard that popular monjayaki spots, like this one,
often have super long waits, so I was bracing myself... lol.
But I walked right in!

The restaurant had a clean atmosphere, but
it was hotter than I expected.
Since they're constantly cooking on hot griddles,
all the windows were open.
Even with the air conditioning on,
the indoor temperature was quite high.
I imagine it was especially noticeable because it was July.

There were many local Japanese customers,
and I also saw quite a few tourists, including Koreans.
3. | Good Things to Know Before Ordering |

Before entering, you'll first see an informational notice.
It's probably good to know these points before your visit.
☑️ A 2-hour time limit applies during peak hours
☑️ Each person must order at least one dish
☑️ After 4 PM, an "otoshi" (cover charge of 418엔) is applied per person
(An allergy guide is also written at the top,
so those with allergies should ask the staff.)
(Uses 8 ingredients: flour, milk, eggs, shrimp, crab, soba, peanuts, walnuts)
4. | The Menu and What We Ordered |

The Japanese menu is provided at every table as standard,
and the staff brought us an English menu.
There was no separate Korean menu.
All prices include tax.
Ordered Items | Quantity | Price (Tax Incl.) |
Otoshi (Seating charge: applied from 4 PM onwards) お席料(お通し付) | 2 | ¥ 836 |
Modanyaki (Okonomiyaki with fried noodles in it) モダン焼き | 1 | ¥ 1,298 |
Spicy Caviar & Mochi + Recommended topping Cheese Monjayaki 明太子と餅 + モツツアレラ | 1 | ¥ 2,376 |
Asahi Super Dry Draft Beer アサヒスーパードライ | 3 | ¥2,145 (Based on ¥660 per beer, ¥1980 would be correct...) |
Coca Cola コーラ | 1 | ¥ 418 |
TOTAL | ¥7,073 |
Please refer to the table for the items we ordered!
While organizing the photos, I looked at the bill,
and now I see that the price for the beer
was different from the menu price.
But when translated, the menu name is correct.
Thankfully, it wasn't a huge difference, so that's a relief!
I'm not sure why, but I hope you double-check your bill before paying... !!

5. | Review: Otoshi (Egg Roll), Draft Beer, Spicy Caviar & Cheese Monjayaki, and Modanyaki |

I was so excited because it was my first time trying Monjayaki!

A refreshing Asahi Super Dry Draft Beer
Ordered and ready to dig in!!

While we were chugging down our beers,
a staff member came over and started making something for us.

Here's our complimentary rolled omelet, served as a basic appetizer!
It seemed like they just told me I could eat it and then headed off...
At the time, I honestly didn't catch a single word and just stared blankly, feeling a bit lost ㅋㅋㅋ

And then, I accidentally burnt it all! Hahaha.
They seemed to be doing everything, so I just... stood by and watched a little too much.
Don't make my mistake and burn it,
Just eat it when you think it's mostly cooked!

Mentaiko Cheese Mochi Monjayaki
明太子と餅 + モツツアレラ
Spicy Caviar & Mochi + Recommended topping Cheese
This is the most popular menu item: the Mentaiko Cheese Monjayaki!
It's a representative Teppanyaki dish from Tokyo.
The vegetables are piled high like a mountain,
with mentaiko and extra cheese (which we added!) on top.
Just a heads-up: the cheese needs to be added separately! ⭐️

The initial appearance was a bit surprising, I have to admit,
but there's absolutely no need to worry at all!
The staff will prepare everything for you right at your table.
So you can just sit back and enjoy the show!

They mix the ingredients, spread them on the sizzling hot plate, sprinkle on the cheese...
and before you know it, you have monjayaki, which has a sort of porridge-like look to it.

This is what it looks like after the staff member has finished preparing it.
Haha, I had no idea it would turn out like this...!
The finished appearance was even more surprising, to be honest ㅋㅋㅋ
But don't be alarmed! You just use a small spatula to pick off little bits...
and grill it crispy right on the hot plate until it's just how you like it.
Grill it to your heart's content — crispy or soft!

And wow, it's delicious!
It definitely tastes better than it looks.
The outside gets wonderfully crispy, while the inside, with all that melted cheese, reminded me a bit of a savory risotto.
It's truly a combination that can't go wrong, so I just kept going back for more!
I guess I can see why it's one of their signature dishes, right?
Since it's a quintessential teppanyaki dish from Tokyo, Japan,
I highly recommend giving it a try at least once!

Next up on our order was...
Modanyaki (Okonomiyaki + Noodles) モダン焼き
Modanyaki (Okonomiyaki with fried noodles in it)
You can think of it as an Okonomiyaki with noodles folded right in.
This dish is also expertly prepared by the staff right in front of you.

This fried egg looked perfect for a toast!
The okonomiyaki making process in full swing...☆

Now, we wait patiently.

And it's done~
It looked incredibly appetizing!

Honestly, it wasn't super satisfying.
It wasn't bad, but it wasn't particularly delicious either,
the monjayaki alone was flavorful enough for me.
Of course, you could always try other menu items~
There are so many different kinds of okonomiyaki to explore.
6. | Overall Review |

My very first monjayaki experience in Tokyo
was ultimately a truly satisfying meal~
Since the staff prepares it right in front of you from start to finish,
it was easy even for first-timers like me to enjoy,
and I totally understood why the Mentaiko Cheese Monjayaki, their signature dish,
is so highly recommended!
Just a heads-up, it can get quite warm inside during summer,
and remember that an 'otoshi' (table charge/small appetizer) fee is added after 4 PM.
If you're exploring Shibuya and looking for a fantastic late dinner or even a delicious late-night snack,
or if you're eager to try monjayaki for the very first time in Tokyo,
this spot is definitely worth a visit!
Next up was Shibuya Sky the very next day!!

That evening, I had hamburg steak at Shibuya Kiwamiya.
It's quite a famous spot in Japan~

This place served the most delicious Gyukatsu I've ever tasted!
If you find yourself near Asakusa, you absolutely have to check it out!

Tsukishima Monja Kuuya Shibuya operates daily from 11 AM until 4 AM the following day. The author reportedly visited at 10:36 PM on a weekday and was able to enter immediately without waiting.
Yes, after 4 PM, an otoshi (cover charge) of ~$3 per person is applied. Additionally, during peak hours, a 2-hour time limit is enforced, and each person must order at least one dish.
Yes, for both the Mentaiko Cheese Mochi Monjayaki and Modanyaki, staff members prepare them from start to finish, which is very convenient. The Mentaiko Cheese Mochi Monjayaki, in particular, is said to be the most popular menu item with high satisfaction.
While the restaurant had a clean atmosphere, due to the nature of griddle cooking, the indoor temperature tends to be quite high. It's worth noting that even with the air conditioning on during a visit in July, it reportedly felt hot, so keep this in mind if visiting in summer.
The author paid with cash. Google Maps indicates that NFC mobile payment, PayPay, and Rakuten Pay are also available.
