Tokyo Ueno Accommodation Recommendation
Tosei Hotel Cocone Ueno Okachimachi
Our Honest Review: A Couple's Stay (Paid for by Us!)
Text & Photos by Traveler Mado
Perhaps it's because I've entered my thirties,
but my stamina isn't what it used to be.
So, for this Tokyo trip,
I diligently searched for a place that was close to Narita Airport, convenient for subway stations,
and offered great access to major downtown areas like
Ginza, Roppongi, and Shibuya.
(Of course, it also had to be affordable...)
The place that met all these criteria was none other than
'Tosei Hotel Cocone Ueno Okachimachi,'
where I stayed for 4 nights and 5 days.
Today, I'll delve into why I chose this Tokyo hotel,
including a detailed review of the double bed room!
Tosei Hotel Cocone Ueno Okachimachi,
Why Did I Choose It?

The reasons I chose Tosei Hotel Cocone Ueno Okachimachi are as mentioned above.
When traveling in Japan, you walk a lot all day long, so
I believe saving energy on hotel commutes is also crucial.

Just so you know, on my last Tokyo trip,
I stayed in Shibuya, but it took over 1 hour and 30 minutes
to get from the airport to the hotel, as I had to take the Skyliner
and then transfer to the subway.
Plus, the subway was incredibly crowded,
and moving with luggage was much harder than I expected. Haha.

On the other hand, Ueno is convenient for travel from the airport
and great for getting to major tourist spots, so
it seems like a more satisfying choice for those
who want to save energy during their trip!
Also, from Keisei Ueno Station, the Skyliner's terminal,
the hotel is just a 10-minute walk away,
and you can get directly to the accommodation by using the underground passageway connected to the station.

What's more, the hotel isn't tucked away in an alley
but is located near a main street and the PARCO department store, creating
a relatively safe atmosphere even when returning late at night.

Actual Nightly Price, Compared

For my 4-night stay, I booked a double bed room (for 2 people)
I booked it for a total of ~$405
via Yeogiyoette.
Approximately ~$100 per night,
based on two people,
so it was about ~$48 per person.
Considering the high accommodation costs in Tokyo,
I was satisfied with the location, transportation accessibility, and even the room condition,
so I felt the overall value for money was excellent.
Agoda | Yeogiyoette | Trip.com |
~$123 | ~$125 | ~$121 |
Based on a Double Bed Room (with free cancellation),
I compared prices again today,
and it turns out Trip.com is currently the cheapest.
Although Yeogiyoette was the cheapest when I made my reservation,
prices can vary depending on the booking date and time,
so the lowest price might change.
I highly recommend checking multiple booking sites one by one
to compare prices!
Double Bed Room,
An Honest Review for Two

✔️Check-in 15:00~ / Check-out ~10:00
My boyfriend and I stayed in the double bed room
for 4 nights and 5 days.
To get straight to the point,
the room wasn't particularly spacious,
but since we mostly used it just for sleeping,
we stayed there without any major inconvenience.

The room size was 12m², and it was neatly equipped with one double bed, a vanity, a hair dryer,
a TV, a refrigerator, and a full-length mirror.
Near the entrance, there was a storage cabinet for shoes, travel items, and other belongings,
which made it convenient to keep things tidy.

There was space to open one suitcase in front of the full-length mirror and another next to the bed.
The room condition was generally clean,
and there were no unpleasant odors or accumulated dust,
making it a pleasant stay.

The bed was
comfortable even for a 160cm woman and an 180cm man to lie in without feeling cramped,
and the bedding was so plush and cozy
that we could fall asleep comfortably.
When you pull back the curtain above the bed,
instead of a blocked view covered by other buildings,
you get a refreshing city view. Haha!

I, especially, find it hard to sleep if there's noise,
but here, not only was there almost no external noise,
but also very little noise between rooms,
allowing us to rest very quietly and comfortably.
If you're usually sensitive to noise,
I think you'll be very satisfied with your stay here!

However, the bathroom, like in most Japanese hotels,
was on the smaller side.
Nevertheless, it had a bathtub,
which was great for enjoying a foot bath or a half-body bath every night
after walking around all day.
Hand wash, shampoo, conditioner, and body wash were
provided in the room as standard amenities.

For other hygiene products like toothpaste, toothbrushes, razors, and cotton swabs,
you can take as many as you need from the self-service corner next to the counter!

Furthermore, some budget hotels
charge for luggage storage service
before and after check-in.
However, this place offers free luggage storage
both before and after check-in, which was fantastic.
Even when I stayed at the APA Hotel last time,
I had to pay an extra fee to check in early,
but here, even though I arrived at 12 PM,
there was an empty room available, so without any extra charge,
I could check in right away! What a perk!

I decided to stay in Ueno for the first time.
After experiencing it myself,
I truly understood why so many people
recommend Ueno as a lodging location in Tokyo.
