Mastering Your Spare Time!
3 Must-Do Activities Near Tokyo Station
Tokyo Station isn't just the gateway to Japan's capitalβit's a massive destination in its own right!
If you're passing through or waiting for your Shinkansen (bullet train) in 2026,
I've got 3 highly recommended things to do to kill time.
From hidden photo spots to top-tier cafes,
if you're wondering where to go during a short layover,
these spots are guaranteed to make your trip better!
1. The Best Hidden Photo Spots at KITTE Tokyo
KITTE Tokyo

When you arrive at Tokyo Station, head towards the right side (Marunouchi South Exit).
Stepping just a bit away from the main hustle allows you to grab some fantastic, crowd-free photos!
Taking a photo from dead center in front of the station works great,
but moving slightly to the right near the crosswalk
lets you capture the classic red-brick facade with fewer obstructions.
After snapping a few shots at street level, there's a hidden viewpoint
that rivals paid observation decks.
Let me let you in on the secret!

Head up to the 6th-floor rooftop garden at the KITTE Tokyo shopping mall.
This is a famous, yet hidden, spot for night views,
where you can capture the sprawling Tokyo Station building from above.
The view is gorgeous during the day,
but it becomes truly spectacular as the sun sets and the city lights up.
If you're passing through in the evening, you absolutely must stop by
for a once-in-a-lifetime photo with the illuminated station!
(Seriously, the night view is the absolute best!!!)
*If you only have a quick 30-minute layover,
I highly recommend making the KITTE shopping mall your first and only stop!
2. Amazing French Toast & Coffee at 'The Front Room'
Tokyo Station Cafe Latte

This is The Front Room, a cafe famously known around Tokyo Station
for its incredible French toast and rich coffee.
It's a popular spot that often has a waitlist on weekends,
but it's worth the hype.
Around lunchtime on weekdays, it's usually much more relaxed.
If you're traveling during the week, I highly recommend
dropping by for a quick brunch or a coffee break.
When I visited on a weekday, luckily there was no wait,
so I was able to grab my food and coffee right away.
The cafe interior is wide open with a great sense of space.
With natural sunlight pouring in and a mix of locals and travelers,
it genuinely feels like a chic, cosmopolitan getaway. Haha.
Especially on a sunny day, the lush green views out the window
will give you a perfect moment of zen before your next train!
*If you have about 1.5 hours of spare time,
definitely check out this cafe!
You can knock out a great meal and your caffeine fix all at once.
3. Tax-Free Shopping: KITTE, Shin-Marunouchi, & Underground Malls
BEAMS, GU, UNIQLO

The final must-do activity is hitting the shopping malls.
There are several department stores and shopping complexes right around the station,
making it the perfect escape for some window shopping when the weather gets too hot.

When the summer heat hits, there's nothing better than indoor air-conditioned shopping!
With so many stores nearby,
including BEAMS, Standard Products, GU, and UNIQLO,
you can take advantage of tax-free shopping to score items
at much lower prices than you'd find back home!
If you find yourself with an awkward amount of time to kill,
definitely visit the spots I've shared.
Making the most of your spare moments
will make your Tokyo trip so much richer!
