Tokyo Station Ramen Street Guide 2026: Hirugao Shio Ramen Review

Tokyo Station boasts a fantastic spot for ramen lovers: Ramen Street.

Conveniently located on the first basement floor of “Tokyo Station Ichibangai,” directly connected to the JR Tokyo Station Yaesu Central Underground Exit, Ramen Street gathers popular ramen shops from across Japan. We decided it was the perfect spot for a quick lunch before exploring the Marunouchi area around Tokyo Station.

1. Tokyo Station Ramen Street

Tokyo Station Ramen Street first opened its doors in 2009 with the concept of being “the first place visitors to Tokyo want to stop.” It features eight of Japan's most celebrated ramen establishments, all conveniently lined up along a single corridor.

A key feature of Ramen Street is that each shop specializes in a distinct ramen genre, ensuring a wide variety without overlap.

While there can be a bit of a wait during peak lunch and dinner hours, the turnover rate for ramen is quite fast. So, lines tend to move quicker than you might expect. If you're craving delicious ramen but don't want to spend ages waiting, this Tokyo Station spot is highly recommended!

3. Our Choice: Hirugao for Shio Ramen

Among the eight fantastic ramen joints, we opted for Shio Ramen Senmon Hirugao, specializing in salt-based ramen.

The ordering system at Tokyo Station Ramen Street is a bit unique. You pay upfront at a vending machine located in front of each ramen shop. While card payments are usually an option, we chose to pay with cash.

If you're paying with cash, you insert your money first, then select your desired menu items. After placing your order, you just wait in line in front of the ramen shop.

We arrived a little after the main lunch rush, so the queue wasn't too long. We probably waited just over 10 minutes.

Once a table opened up and we were seated, we handed our ticket from the vending machine to the staff. True to ramen's fast-food nature, our dishes arrived almost immediately!

Hirugao's Shio Ramen was truly exceptional. It was so good, it made me wish I had ordered a beer to go with it!

Previous Shio Ramen I'd tried in Japan had often been simply too salty. But Hirugao's Shio Ramen at Tokyo Station was different – it was savory, rich in umami, and perfectly balanced.

The gyoza we ordered as a side dish also paired wonderfully with the ramen. We were thoroughly satisfied, feeling energized for our exploration of Tokyo Station and beyond.

A bowl of ramen typically costs between 1,000 and 1,500 Japanese Yen (approximately ~$7 to ~$10 USD), making it quite affordable for a delicious meal.

With eight distinct ramen shops, Ramen Street offers a fantastic variety, making it fun to choose your meal. Plus, the quick turnover means you won't typically wait too long in line.
