On my recent trip to Tokyo, I ventured out to these spots for an exciting 2-day, 1-night itinerary.

I'm here to break down three different ways to get from Tokyo to Kamakura and Enoshima,

along with my personal experience from the trip!

How to Get from Tokyo to Kamakura & Enoshima: A Complete Guide

1. Odakyu Romancecar

1. Odakyu Romancecar

The Romancecar

is a special express train with all reserved seats, taking you directly from Shinjuku Station in Tokyo to Fujisawa Station or Katase-Enoshima Station

without any transfers.

The fare is approximately 1,390 JPY, and the journey takes about 1 hour.

With comfortable seating and dedicated luggage space,

it's definitely the recommended option if you want to travel in absolute comfort!

However, the Romancecar lines to Fujisawa and Katase-Enoshima

don't have many services, and tickets tend to sell out quickly, especially on weekends and during peak seasons.

I actually wanted to take the Romancecar from Tokyo to Enoshima myself,

but unfortunately, it was already sold out.

If you're hoping to travel to Kamakura and Enoshima by Romancecar from Tokyo,

I highly recommend booking your tickets in advance on the Odakyu website at least 1-2 weeks before your planned departure.

2. Using the JR Yokosuka Line

Using the JR Yokosuka Line means you can depart not only from Shinjuku,

but also from various other locations in Tokyo like Tokyo Station, Shibuya, and Shinagawa.

The fare is around 1,200 JPY.

If your accommodation is near Tokyo Station or in eastern Tokyo,

or if you have a JR Pass, this method comes highly recommended.

However, even if you take JR, you'll eventually need to alight at Fujisawa Station

and transfer to the Odakyu Line or Enoden to reach Katase-Enoshima.

Therefore, starting from Shinjuku, it doesn't offer a significant advantage in terms of price.

3. Odakyu Rapid Express / Express

The Odakyu Express train

is the most economical and popular way to travel from Tokyo (starting from Shinjuku) to Kamakura and Enoshima.

A one-way fare is 640 JPY.

The journey takes about 1 hour.

You'll depart from Shinjuku and head to Fujisawa Station,

where you'll need to transfer to a local Odakyu line.

Once you arrive at Fujisawa Station,

your transfer line will vary depending on your final destination:

✅ For Kamakura-bound destinations like the "Slam Dunk" scene and Kotoku-in Temple, transfer to the “Enoden” line.

✅ For Enoshima-bound destinations like Enoshima Island itself and the beach areas, transfer to the Odakyu Line bound for Katase-Enoshima.

If you're planning a sightseeing itinerary that involves exploring every corner of Kamakura and Enoshima by taking the Enoden train,

I recommend the **“Kamakura Enoshima Freepass,”** which includes a round-trip fare from Shinjuku and unlimited rides on the Enoden.

The Freepass is a 1-day ticket for 1,640 JPY,

and it includes a round-trip fare between Shinjuku and Fujisawa, plus unlimited rides on the Enoden.

Considering the basic Enoden fare is around 200 JPY,

you'll easily get your money's worth after just 2-3 rides on the Enoden!

Whether you're planning a day trip

or dedicating one of your two days to thoroughly explore Kamakura and Enoshima during a 2-day, 1-night stay,

using the Freepass is definitely more advantageous.

4. My Experience Taking the Odakyu Express from Tokyo to Katase-Enoshima

Shinjuku Station can be quite complex,

but thankfully, the Odakyu Line has excellent signage, making it easy to navigate.

There's even a dedicated information center for foreigners within the station,

so while you can buy tickets from the vending machines,

it was great to be able to ask questions and purchase tickets there!

The Odakyu Express train is structured much like a typical subway train.

While there's a chance you might have to stand,

I was lucky enough to grab a seat and easily store my luggage.

We enjoyed the scenery from the train window as we made our way to Fujisawa Station.

From Fujisawa Station, you can hop on the Enoden train and head to Kamakura,

or make your way to Enoshima.

Since Enoshima was our destination,

we transferred to the Odakyu Line, heading specifically for "Katase-Enoshima."

The journey from Fujisawa to Katase-Enoshima is a quick one, taking only about 10 minutes.

Katase-Enoshima Station itself is a sight to behold, modeled after the legendary "Ryugu-jo" (Dragon Palace) from Japanese folklore.

Its striking red roof is truly unforgettable.

Step out of the station, and you'll immediately spot the bridge leading to Enoshima Island.

Nearby, you'll find the Shin-Enoshima Aquarium,

as well as the beautiful Katase Higashihama and Nishihama beaches.

We absolutely loved our overnight stay in Enoshima, savoring every moment of Enoshima Island and the stunning Tokyo coastline!
