Heading to Tokyo solo...
Where should I stay?
Capsule hotels aren't my thing,
but a private room is too expensive...
Is there a hotel in Tokyo where I can soak in warm water like a Japanese onsen and truly relax?
The place I chose was Ikebukuro Royal Hotel!
I loved that I could book it for around ~$60 per night, but honestly, I was a bit worried before I went
Even though it's a 3-star hotel that's been renovated,
Google reviews mentioned it being a bit dated.

But once I actually stayed there, I slept like a baby,
and there was a clear reason why everyone raves about the public bath!
After exploring Tokyo all day,
it was amazing to be able to use the public bath even when coming back late!
I went at 1 AM and had the entire public bath all to myself, lol!

If you're planning a solo trip to Tokyo now,
prioritize price and location,
and are looking for Tokyo accommodation recommendations that even have a public bath,
I highly recommend Ikebukuro Royal Hotel!
✅ About a 4-minute walk from Ikebukuro Station West Exit
✅ Large public bath & outdoor open-air bath
✅ Dry & wet saunas
✅ GU about a 10-minute walk, many convenience stores and restaurants nearby

While searching for Tokyo hotel recommendations,
the reason I chose Ikebukuro Royal was precisely because of its public bath!
When you're walking all day long during a 2-night, 3-day trip to Tokyo,
your legs get really tired in the evening, right? ㅠㅠ
Honestly, I really wanted to visit a Tokyo onsen,
but due to my schedule, I really wanted to stay at a Tokyo accommodation that had a public bath!

But it was even better than I expected!
Inside the public bath, there were both dry and wet saunas,
and best of all, the outdoor open-air bath was incredible!
Soaking in the warm water while enjoying the fresh air outside
felt like all the fatigue from my Tokyo trip just melted away.

It was great not having to search for a separate Tokyo onsen;
I could just come back to the hotel, wash up, and relax right away.
Plus, the 24-hour operation was perfect for me
because I could use it even when I returned to the hotel late at night!
I had the entire public bath to myself at 1 AM, lol!
For reference, there's an announcement that the men's sauna has been under construction since June 2026!
The public bath itself is still available for use.
For women, both the public bath & sauna are available!

2. Tokyo Accommodation: Solo Stay Prices and Booking Tips
When you travel solo to Tokyo,
you don't have anyone to split accommodation costs with, so the price of a single room is really important!
Especially for a 2-night, 3-day trip to Tokyo,
you'd rather spend on delicious food or shopping than just accommodation, right?
Here, you can book a night for around ~$60,
which is pretty good value considering Tokyo's high prices!
I even found the lowest prices for you!
Price Comparison for 1 Night (Nov 17-18) | |
Yeogi Eottae | ~$70 |
Agoda | ~$69 |
★Trip.com★ | ~$67 |
MyRealTrip | ~$71 |
I usually book overseas accommodation on Yeogi Eottae,
but **Trip.com was the cheapest right now!**
Just a heads-up, all these options exclude breakfast.

When looking for Tokyo hotel recommendations,
if the prices are similar, I'd choose the one with a large public bath and sauna!

View accommodations around ~$60 per night

Breakfast can also be added for around ~$8,
but I didn't feel the need to use it!
I took a quick peek in the morning, and it looked like a neat Japanese home-style meal,
so if you enjoy having breakfast at your accommodation, it might be worth trying!

Since I was on a food pilgrimage to Japan and
practically needed to eat 5 meals a day ^^,
I skipped breakfast!
3. A 3-star Room: What Was It Really Like to Sleep In?
Before booking here, I devoured tons of reviews from people who actually stayed,
especially Tokyo hotel recommendations!
Among them, the Google reviews gave me the most pause.
Even though they said it was renovated, there were reviews mentioning it felt old,
and I was worried about the room condition being a 3-star hotel.

But what was the result after I actually stayed there myself?
I **slept like a baby!**
Of course, if you're expecting a sophisticated room like a brand-new hotel,
you might naturally be disappointed.
But for me, **it was important to spend most of my time**
**exploring outside, then come back to the hotel**
**to get thoroughly clean and sleep deeply** throughout the trip!

No matter how much you walk during a 2-night, 3-day trip to Tokyo,
you need to sleep well at night to enjoy exploring the next day, right?
Being able to relax in the large public bath and then come up to sleep so deeply
meant I had a truly wonderful stay!

The bathroom was clean, and all amenities were provided free of charge!
When looking for Tokyo accommodation recommendations,
instead of just choosing new hotels,
it's a good idea to think about what's most important to you: a comfortable bed, facilities, or location!

Even though it wasn't flashy, I absolutely loved this accommodation
with its single room where I could sleep like a baby, and the fantastic large public bath!
4. Ikebukuro Royal Hotel: Final Thoughts
When booking accommodation for a trip to Tokyo,
it's always most convenient to choose a place close to a subway station!
Ikebukuro Royal Hotel is
about a 4-minute walk from Ikebukuro Station West Exit.

If you're taking JR and subways a lot during your Tokyo trip, being near the station is super convenient.
There are convenience stores and restaurants nearby,
and GU is also about a 10-minute walk, which was great for shopping.

When your time is short, like a 2-night, 3-day Tokyo trip,
minimizing travel time to and from your hotel is super important, isn't it?
If you want to enjoy a large public bath with a Tokyo onsen vibe,
I highly recommend Tokyo Hotel Royal Ikebukuro, which offers both great value and excellent bathing facilities :)
